Title: Htc Stop Ignoring Me, I Need Help!
Post by: JoeCrip on April 01, 2002, 04:57:33 PM
Sorry I had to do this, I made posts about this 4 times...and it still inst fixed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I noticed a few other people have posted this too, but i am gonna repost it. Almost everyone with a sidewinder has been having this problem. I am having it, and Soviet is having it.

Problem: During gameplay, the joystick will just stop working. In order to get it to work, i have to alt+tab. Unplug the joytick, plug it back in, and reinstall the drivers. By the time i have done all that, i have already been bounced, and probally am ded.

This problem started happing and patch 2. Plllllleeeeaaaasssseee release a patch ASAP.

BTW: I do have all the updated sidewinder drivers, and the latest windows USB patches installed

Joe maybe posting in the 'sound' furum is the problem mate?

this was a problem for me once with my old saitek usb joystick so my solution may not help but i seem to remember a program called joystart that used to kick start windows into rechecking for joysticks.

Im really sorry if this doesnt help but its worth a search for it.

also try updating your motherboard USB drivers not just the windows ones.I had no end of trouble with my usb adsl modem until i updated my 'via' motherboard usb controllers. if your motherboard manufacturer uses  'via' chips on it this might be the problem.

go here and get the latest 4in1 drivers for your particular chipset if you indeed have via based mobo:

http://www.viatech.com/en/index/index.jsp

you can find out which type of chips you have by looking on the actual chip surface (if they dont have fan on them)

if you havent got via then try finding out what chips your motherboard does use and go to their site.

it may be obvious but have you tried using an OLDER driver for your joystick? Im guessing you have got the latest and it hasnt made a difference? well try putting the ones that came with the joystick(install CD) in again. go to regedit and clear out all the stuff you can find that has 'sidewinder' on it(dont mess with registry unless youre sure what you are doing ok?)

If it has something to do with AH then you should EMAIL HTC personally with the EXACT specs of your computer.give them a rundown of all your hardware and driver vers. numbers to help them out.The BB is ok for tech help but if you are a subscribing customer and its an AH bug causing the problem you have every right to ask whats wrong.

failing that how about buying a cheap NEW joystick? Saitek cyborg 3d gold are dirt cheap for their quality and i use them.I have no problems with this one at all.

EDIT : found this for you mate, this is where i found the little programe to help me with my old cyborg2000. maybe something in there will be of use? not sure

this was the utility i used but its very old and may not apply in your case, this is what it says on the site:

"JSTRT100.ZIP contains JoyStart.exe, a small utility that may help if you're having trouble with your joystick not being recognized after a Windows restart. It sends a command to the joystick system to have it recheck it's current configuration, that's often enough to get the stick to be recognized in many cases. UnZIP the file somewhere on your hardrive. It should produce the JoyStart.exe file and another file, JoyStart.doc, which you can read with WordPad. It talks about setting up the JoyStart program and getting it to run automatically. (97,584 Bytes) "
