Hey everyone, I need as many people who are serious about the historical scenarios(Afrika Corps, Hostile Shores) to answer the following questions:
1. Would you dedicate four hours on Saturday and four hours on Sunday of the same weekend to fly a recreation of the "Big Week" air battle over Germany of Feb. 1944?
2. Would you dedicate six hours on Saturday and six hours on Sunday of the same weekend to fly a recreation of the "Big Week" air battle over Germany of Feb. 1944?
Depending upon the time commitment that you can give, we are thinking of something new and exciting for the next scenario.
Keep in mind that while we don't have the times worked out, they would inevitably involve some Euro-friendly time, and some US-Friendly time.

A 'simple' yes or no? I sure ain't got one of those for you.
My answer for either one is "I'd love to, but..."
Four hours Sat *and* four hours Sun? Very little way I could attend something like that, unless it was in the middle of winter and there was lots of snow on the ground.
Four (or six) hours Sat *or* Sun, possibly...
Four hours one weeknight and four hours the next weeknight, sure.

Hell yeah, is simple enough? ;)
OH WAIT! Euro-friendly? :)
Cheers,
Pepe
-
Sounds good to me...but the times might be a little long.
-
If it's just a week end once on a while...
1: yes
2: well... yes?
But in euro friendly times.
at least in part.
-
Unlikely I can do 2 days running.
I could do 6 hrs. Sat in one shot.
If it MUST be 2 days, It would have to be 4 hours or less. Even then I might not be able to do that.
-
I'd be able to do it if I had the date set about a month in advance.
-
I could do 4 hours (maybe 6) on a Saturday, but Sunday is right out.
-
Hi banana,
No simple yes or no I'm afraid....
Assuming we are looking at US friendly times (Not a critisism).
4 & 4 Yes with plenty or warning
6 & 6 Probably not :(
If it was Fri/Sat instead I could manage both. (I may well be stoned/drunk or whatever but...)
Also the chances of my ISP staying connected for a 4 hour stretch is well... (I would like to see the rules on discoes) ;)

Yes, for one of the two days. Possible for the second day all I could say right now.
And euro friendly would really help :)

Ok, to give you a little insight into what we're driving at, we've noticed that in every multi-frame scenario, the numbers in the first frame are huge, practically bursting at the seems. Then as each frame progresses, the numbers dwindle to where we're having a tough time scraping up enough people to do it justice.
Hence the idea to hold the scenario to one weekend, where we're going to try to keep the action going continually for multiple hours at a time. It would be something where we hope people would only have to reserve one weekend every few months on the calendar, instead of four consecutive weeks. There's a lot of detail that needs to be worked out, but what we need from you now is an indication what kind of time commitment you can make to have something like this work.
Thanks for the replies, I guess a simple yes or no was not sufficient. ;)

1 or 2 would work for me--just give a little notice and the days will be cleared for scenario play.
-
One weekend per month I can probably do. A dedication of four-six hours for Aces High is quite a bit and increases the chances that I'll be asked away from the computer by a crying child or the kitchen on fire or whatever else I have to deal with at home and family. I can't give an absolute answer, but I think I could possibly dedicate a four hour block once per month.
-
My wife would kill me just for asking...
It was tough enough to play Hostile Shores without her rolling her eyes at the mere mention of it...
She has something against me scheduling times to play games... ;)
But I could show for one 4hr day...but not both... :(

id say yes at least to 1 day . 2nd day depends on the wife :)
-
1 day if its 4 hours only.

-
Steven, not one weekend per month, more like one weekend every two or three months.
-
One four hour stretch would be the limit. Anything more than that and I am out of the loop and fall into the category of my wife yelling at me and or something pulling me away from finishing. I see no way of being able to pull it off on two straight days unless I send my wife to the coast or on a trip with her friends for the weekend. :D
-
as long as im not working or hunting
ya can make it 2 10 hr days for all i care
ill fly it

-
Sure, as long as work doesnt get in the way and depending on what hours you decide to do it.
-
12 hours out of 1 weekend would be a bit much for me.
6 hours 1 day like everyone else the possibility of being calld away increases.
top that off with 6 the next day I can say with certaintity that providence (among others) will conspire against me.... :)

Personally, I like the idea of some hardcore CM's running an 8 hour event "live", i.e. posting missions for the entire event, so that no preplanning is needed on part of individual flyers.
The CM cadre can be the command staff for each side, with a couple working as neutral referees. Each side, of course, would have a plan, and implement it by way of the mission planner. Pilots sign on and fly, leaving the big picture to post-event analysis and the side CO's.
The pilots would only have to be flexible as to the aircraft and mission they fly.
-
P.S. This would allow players to blip in and out as they can, and the CM's can have "the plan" ready in advance so that they too can participate as available.
It also eliminates the problem of no-shows, which are the main problem with big events, anyway.

Absolutely. :)
Bring on the 51b's, 47 D11's, G6's, G10's (perked) and Sturmgruppe 190A8's. Too bad we don't have 110G's or Ju88C's.
Dial in factories at Paris, Lille, Antwerp and a BUNCH at the Ruhr and we'll be set to go.
Oh yeah... Spit IX's allowed, but NO drop tanks!

By the way:
This is what the CT should be. If you can't stay for the whole time, fine. Just drop in, fly your mission, and check back later to see who's winning.
-
I wish ... but I work 6 days a week from 6:30 > 17:00 (if no night flight).
But I love historical flying.
-
I would do either if I had a free weekend (which probably won't happen for a few months). I would be more able to do 1. than 2. The longer in advance it is announced, the more likely it becomes that I could do it.
-
I could do this. Especially if the P-51D is involved....
'44 over Germany? I would guess it is there :D
-
Midnight, Big Week was in February 1944. Look for mostly P-47 razorbacks and probably a few P-51Bs, but definitely no Ds.
I'm all for this idea. One big weekend event (afternoon US/evening Europe) once a month would be ideal.
-
When I was a sysop at Fighter Ace, I once worked an event for 12 hours in one day, so the precedence is set for my wife to ok this :)
Actually when I do get to play AH I play for a few hours at a time. With enough advance notice and barring any previous engagements, I could probably swing two four-hour stints easier.
I like Gadfly's 8 hour idea too, a bunch of preset missions ready to go and throw in some missions in case plans go astray; open event.
-
Id be able to do 4 hours on a sat and 4 hours on a sunday but to be honest it sounds a bit too much in 1 weekend.BUT I absolutely prefer historical to MA
-
I'd be able to do four one day or another. Plenty of advance notice is key.
-
I would be able to do 2 to 4 hours on one day OR the other. Not two days in a row.

S!
There were 3 Fighter Groups of P-51B's flying in February '44 as far as I know.
No P-51D's at that point.
The 109G10 wasn't available then either, but there were quite a few G6's with the DB605 AM or ASM engines, (methanol injection) which has somewhat similar performance, (around 428mph at best alt, instead of 452mph with this G10) so it would probably be a good idea to allow the German side a few of those. The majority of the 109's would be G6's. The G2 was long gone from the inventory of the German Staffel.
There were also quite a few P-38J's flying. The AH P-38L is quite a bit better aircraft so including it would be optional. Perhaps a few for flavour.
The 190A5's and A6's had mostly been replaced by heavy A7's and A8's by February, although some of the earlier aircraft might still be operational with the Luftwaffe Tactical Fighter units based in France and in southern Belgium. These units were still contesting the Spitfires and Typhoons sweeps over France and the medium bomber groups attacking the V1 sites in the Pas de Calais.
The majority of the B17's would be B17F's, but some G models were in use and more were coming on stream.
-
were there P47D11s during that time it would seem so if there were P51B and P38s.

Only if it's after 10:00 pm E.S.T kids will tear the house apart otherwise.....
-
S!
The Razorback P-47's made up the largest number of USAAF Fighters in the 8th AAF at this time. By February they were equipped with Paddle blade props, something which the AH Razorback doesn't have.
-
One weekend every couple months is do-able. There will always be chances that something else is occuring on that day, but for the most part, I could reserve that time for Aces High.
-
I could do this; when I flew in many of the AW scenarios going back to 1999. Most of those were only 2 hours to three hours long. Four hours I still think is doable but more than that and I think you would suffer a lot of burn out and fatique.
But I am definitely interested and I know that others in my squad would be. Plus, other AW scenario junkies that now fly over here.

Yes and Yes.
-
I would be available most likly for both days.
I am a bit uneducated about the P47 what did the Paddle-blade do for it? And what was the model numbers so i can learn more about this wanderful plane.
P.S. I am 30-4 in the P47D11. I have fallen in love for its "dive" charecteristics and turning ability. Oh and its ammo load I can sprey and prey all day. hehe.

Yes, I could do the time frames, I'm not sure I'd want to do it though. That's a big chunk of the weekend.
