I have an idea for what I think would be a quick easy thing for HT to do and it would improve the graphics of a kill by 200% :D
I'd like to see little explosions when a cannon round hits. This looks so cool in IL2/WW2 OL (i hate to bring other games up but...) In Il2 it realy gives good feedback too on if and where I hit the plane. And it looks really cool seing little black puffs trailing the target. I've seen ww2 footage of 190's hitting bombers and fighters w/ cannon and the explosions were visible, though they were small (ie. not as big as in WW2OL or IL2)

Well we already 'kinda' have that with the hit sprites that are the same size, regardless of how far away your target is. I'd like to see those hit sprites vary in size so a hit on a plane far away will have a small hit sprite and a hit on a plane up close will have a larger one.

I would like to see hit sprites from cannon rounds that are size/distance accurate, and no hit sprites from MGs.

Same here. Seems like a small thing, but I think it adds a lot to the game. I would like to see more detailed hit sprites.

How would this affect frame rates? I have no idea, but if it isn't by much, I definately wish to see it :)
If changing it that way in near future versions is a bit far off, as an alternative, I think the first step should be to change the shape of the hit sprites. That wad of white cotton ball, how long did we have it?? I'm pretty sure it was there with us since AHBeta... getting a bit old I'd say.
I remember that advertisement film for Fighter Ace3 that lingered here until recently. What I was impressed was how the hit sprites were portrayed there. It's kind of hard to explain with words, but in AH, hit sprite graphics seem to be displayed ... um... in a 'generic manner'. I.e. When a wing area is hit, that certain part of the plane graphic is sort of 'smothered' by the sprites, 'generic' in size and shape. In the case of Fighter Ace3, the hit sprites are area specific... if a certain area on the wing is hit, it will display the sparks on that particular area where the bullet hit, not have the whole 'wingtip' or 'middle of the wing' smothered by a hit sprite...

I think the best possible graphics would be if the bits/chunks and explosions effects like IL-2 are mixed with hit sprite effects of Fighter Aces3, but I'd settle for the hit sprites if having both is a bit too heavy for current levels of AH :)

I have played IL2 and I think putting that in would slow most of the Arena's FPS down. Mines might not be affected but the poor guys with a voodooo2 (gasp) might ! lol
Great effects in that game! Shooting ur own tail off is kind of fun in a way! lol:cool:

That would be a good place for improvement. The Il-2 hit effects are fabulous. Even the "chunks of stuff falling off" from WB would be cool.
