Title: Any Slade fans here?
Post by: Frodo on April 02, 2002, 08:16:28 PM
Getting ready to order a Slade CD for my collection but wondered if anyone had any good MP3 links also?

I like all types of music but I am a child of the 70's and saw them in concert 3 times. Some of the best concerts I saw for sheer fun and outright craziness!

Hey Frodo,
Slade are still going strong. They still do the local tour round here, (All born about 20 miles from where I live). Last time I saw them live was about 2 years ago and Joanne & myself are going to see them again later this year. The line up is still the same with the exception of "Noddy" but the guy on vocals sounds more like Noddy Holder than the man himself. Dave Hill runs the band now and Don? Powell still plays the drums. They still play all the old classics but have quite a new reportoire as well.

"Everyday" & "Far Far Away" are my favourites with "Cum on Feel the Noize" a close third, Oh the memories..

Now... Where's that "Slade Alive" LP.

I was a great slade fan in the middle 70`s,,,so any links would be
appreciated,,especially early 70`s productions.
I stopped paying attention after "slade in flame",iI think they peaked on that album(never saw the movie though):)

SLADE!

I was an official member of the Slade Fan Club in 1976!  Sorry don't have any MP3s or links...in fact I had totally forgotten about them.

Frodo...you must be a transplanted Brit to know about Slade.

I just knew there were some Slade fans in this community.:D

Yea the early 70's to 1980 were the best IMHO.

I spent my teen yrs. near St.Louis,Mo. and we had a local promoter "Contemporary Productions" that brought in new groups all the time, along with the big groups. There were about 7-8 venues within 1/2 hr.drive.You could go to 4-5 concerts a week if you wanted to for between $3-$7.00 a ticket!

A small group of us went to every show we could.Saw a lot of groups that were just starting out and a lot of obscure groups.Went to hundreds between 1970-80 and have the ticket stubs to prove it.

Two of the best shows were Slade. Can't remember the 3rd show, but thats another story. The first one they were the opening act for another obscure group "Pavlovs Dog"(I will be surprised if anyone knows this group).Slade came on and did their set and blew everyone away!Pavlovs Dog came on and played a couple of songs(very mellow music compared to slade) and were booed off the stage by people shouting for more Slade.

The second show about 6 months later they were the headliner.Just after the first song there was a major power outage. It lasted for about 2 hours and and the party that went on in the theatre(Ambassador-held about 3-4000 people?) was memorable. But just as everyone was about to give up on seeing Slade the power came back on.They came out and played an extremely long concert and almost literally brought the house down. They seemed to be thoroughly enjoying themselves as was the crowd.Of course 2 hrs of partying will do that to you.
I was reading a site last week and they mentioned a "Legendary" Slade concert in St.Louis in the early 70's and this must be the one they are refering to.

Some of my Favorite tunes:

How does it feel
My OH My
Gudbye T' Jane

Good to hear they are still kicking around.

Anyone remember a group called "Nektar"?German or Dutch group from that era?
How about "Hawkwind?
Or "The Climax Blues Band"?

Fantastic band.
They play almost as well as Quiet Riot :D j/k

I've always wondered what kind of relationship is between Slade and Quiet Riot? Obviously Quiet Riot must have a permission to play Slade's songs, or...?
I must admit that Quiet Riot's versions of Slade's songs were pertty good too, but Slade is Slade.

Far far away and cum on feel the noize... OH YES!! SLADE ON STAGE !

ps. Frodo, have you tried WinMX?

Quiet Riot?Never heard of em! :D  J/K

Wondered the same thing if there was a connection.I also enjoyed QR.How about a group named "Sweet"?Another band that sounded like they copied Slade.

I am a huge Queen fan also.Saw them a few times also around the same time period.

WINMX ??? I am running WIN XP Home.

WOOOHOOO!!!!

When I tried to find any info about Slade on the Net a few years ago I found out that 90% of the resourses are Russian.

They are extremely popular here among people who are 25 and above.

I am still into the late-60s/early-70s music. I am only 29, but it was the music that our elder brothers listened to, and we (the sane people :)) prefered old Rock to castrated disco of the 80s.

On April, 19th, I was at the Deep Purple concert. 25000 people!!! They lost Jon Lord :( and picked a 'wooddonut' from Rainbow as an organist, but they still ROCK!!! They even played Child in Time!!!  I will go to their concerts even if they'll come on stage in wheelchairs.

BTW, I have a few dozen DP bootlegs in reach, and one comlete DivX video from 1972. Drop me a line if you are interested ;)

Unfortunately I heard one "Slade-II" album, and it was extremely bad :( So, when they came to Moscow without Holder and Lee - I didn't even bother to go to their show :(

Can't fault your taste in music Boroda. In fact, the last great rock and roll was created prior to 1980, and I'm allowing a 5 year fudge factor. I was gonna say 1975, but I may be wrong about some dates.

I'll say - from 1966 ("Revolver", early Hendrix, "Freak Out!" and Floyd) to 1973 ("HotH" by LZ, "Imagine", "Who Do We Think We Are" by DP and many others).

Later - only some fluctuations that I like: Dire Straits, U2, early REM. And most of the underground Soviet rock from the 80-s.

or "I want to break free" Remember the video? :D
Honestly, Queen had many superb hits. At the "later age" I surprised myself of liking queen's songs more and more :)

But here is the real trivia:
Brian May and Eddie Van Halen, name the album :)

Hehe, Queen was the only "modern" band we listened to in 80s ;) My favs still are Sheer Heart Attack, Jazz and The Game.

Vector that would be "The Starfleet Project".  In Japan it is now available under "Resurrection."

Correct Mighty1. :)
Didn't know about the Japanese release. Is it remixed album or the original with the different name?

The Starfleet Project was the very first album (besides the Van Halen albums) for me from where I actually could heard the joy of playing via the speakers. They just went to studio and "let it roll!" and what an album it was! :)

I don't know if it a remix or not I just saw it in a bio of Brian May .

Thanks for the link vector.I had looked at this one before but hadn't tried it.Until recently I didn't have a big enough HD to store many files.Been DL files all day. Still going to pick up the cd.

Boroda I did notice a lot of Russian sites in my searches.A lot of good sites also, and some with english versions also.

Also I didn't know there was much good rock made after 1979:p
A few exceptions yes.Dire Straits had some great lyrics on a couple of songs!
