There wouldn't happen to be any other conventions in the DFW area then, would there? Preferably something network/security related? I put a lot of T&E in my budget this year, and I can expense the trip if there's something work-related going on :D :D :D
-
...on a slightly more serious note, I'll probibly be driving. I live in the Denver area if anyone wants to carpool/caravan down. maps.yahoo says it's 17 hours, so figure a 12-13 hour drive. Piece of cake.
-
Not sure of the route you plan to take, but if you came through Amarillo, you'll need to take Hwy287 the rest of the way into D-FW. I can meet ya in a little town called Clarendon and we can convoy/caravan the rest of the way in.
Fair enough?
-
I'm scared!
-
I'm scared for you, Udie! :D
oh, and leave the te-killya at home, unless it's Patron!
-
We're all scared for Udie
-
How about vodka, Nate? All things are miscible in vodka

About $650 Cdn. And that doesn't even include traveling and other expenses.
-
$650 Canadian doesn't even buy a Dr. Pepper does it? Must have revalued the C dollar :)
:D
-
How many people can we stuff into a $119 room? And I know this is a stupid question, but is the $145 to cover the confrence room or are there nifty prizes :D
-
"I've got family in Clarendon... "
Cool, Aub......I only live about 45 miles north of there. Might be just as close and easier to meet Puck in Amarillo. Might have some last minute computer stuff to pick up then.......
-
Somebody sure better take good pictures this year.
And I might become a member just to be online about the time Hitech does the annual prank. I read enough whines about last years, I wanna be a part of it somehow this year.
:D

2Late: The fee covers the con room, the internet hookup, hat, t-shirt, banquet, the speakers (usually some WWII aces) and of course some nice prizes. I don't know what it was like last year but for the first con there was a private shuttle and tickets for the air show plus a prize for just about everyone at the banquet. Some of them were very nice, worth $100+. We had 5 people at my banquet table and I think between us we won 2 x Saitek HOTAS, 1 Combatstick USB, 1 Pro Pedals USB, and 1 Saitek twisty stick.

Rooms for $119 a night? What *is* it with Texas and room rates!
Dang, who wants to share a room and isnt a closet cross dresser :p I can afford the Con Fees, I know how to pack a computer to survive UPS (in big letters "Fellow Teamster, handle with care!") and I can swing airfare. Its the $400+ to stay for 3/4 days that is a tough sell to my budget :(
-
I gonna try to make it this year. Last con I went to was in '98 for WB. Need a roommie oooodeeeeee?

Those were pretty sweet rooms for $119 though
I'm glad it's going to be at the same hotel, I was incredibly impressed last year.
If I get the money, I'm gonna get one of these (http://www.ikarus-modellbau.de/Ikarus/english/index-e.html) for that huge atrium-center area thing.
-
I would go this year but the idiotic state laws think I am not good enough to be a drinker yet...
If they could see me in full glory!
Next year Udie, if you are still alive, we will have a competition.
-
you wont go cuz you can't drink?
chickenshit
-
Im afraid to fly and Texas is too danged far away to drive.
Have fun all :)
-
You can easily fit 3 people per room ( 1 in each double bed, and 1 on the pull out couch bed), a 4th is easy if someone don't mind sleeping in one of the big comfy chairs (I did that one night, when Udie stole my bed last year :p for which he still owes me a bottle of something ;) ) These are BIG rooms people.
Of course if you don't mind sleeping two to a bed, you can get alot more in.
I'll be there this year, and it looks like the MOL will have good representation too ! :)

Are there any plans to host a Euro AH convention any time in the future? It just seems that with so many players over there it might be a nice idea.

There will probably be an AH convention here in the UK if someone gets around to organising one! :D We have had some sort of get-together (initially for AW) since 1997, building up the numbers over the years, with the biggest Convention being in 2000, with around 40 attending.
Last year, there were less numbers due to the uncertainty of the future of AW and we called the convention EVACC - European Virtual Air Combat Convention (http://www.evacc2001.com/) to cover all games! As it turned out, most of us were playing Aces High anyway, with the Head-to-Head competition being held in AH.
Hopefully there will soon be news of this year's Convention, and I will post here as soon as I hear anything. :)

I'll probibly be driving. I live in the Denver area
I used to have a house off of colfax, I have made the drive several times. Plan about 15 hr trip. You can do it in 13 but you will have two people and next to no stops. Its a fun drive. just long at points.
-
Stupid question time....do you have to pay for the room cost when you register?
-
I'll just head out 70 to 135, then down to Dallas. I've driven that route before (from podunk, Washington to Austin). Did that one without slowing down, also. There's nothing in Kansas, Oklahoma, or most of Texas worth seeing :D
-
Raubvogel,
Everyone is responsible for their own hotel room reservations and cost. The con fee does not include the hotel accommodations. Embassy Suites does require a credit card guarantee.
I hope that helps.

Cool, so I can sleep in my car? :D
How far out did most people make reservations last year?
-
I've already made mine. Show up Wed, July 31 and leave Sunday, Aug 4.
You have to tell them you're with the HiTech Creations group. She couldn't find the "hoards of spit dweebs, alt monkeys, and N1K knuckelheads chased around kby a bunch of B&Z LA7 twerps all in one room drinking too much" group.
If you guys need help setting up Thursday let me know.

Imagine how bad I felt waking up to see the owner of the bed I was sleeping in sleeping between 2 chairs pulled together to make about a 4' bed. DUDE! you should have kicked me onto the floor!!!!!
About that bottle, I seem to remember last year having a bottle that NOBODY would share with me. Made me drink freakin 3/4 of it alone. This year the penalty shots start Wed night!
Dnil,
I think Ripsnort and myself are rooming. You need to come though dude been too long since we've hung out. You will find a room, even if it's a diferent one each night ;) Make it happen man!
-
Udie, I seem to recall taking a few of those shots.............. that's why you need to bring Patron this year!

Yes after some pretty damn fine persistent badgering on my part, you did partake of the quervo. I think I managed to force some into Supe too :) that's why I said I drank 3/4 :) and why I didn't die that night!
I tella ya what, just so you don't think I'm a right wing closed minded nazi, between now and the con, I will go get some patron to sample. If it treats me well I'll bring it instead of Quervo Gold Especial. :D

How LIMITED are we talking about ? Not sure how BIG the AH CONS Run ?
At the 2000 AW CON we had 100+ PC's setup and 170 Pilots and 210 for the Banquet dinner.
How many pilots are you expecting to handle ?
What kind of Internet connect will you have ?
Thanks,

If anyone is planning on driving from the Southeastern or Eastern US let me know. I am still checking into the financial part of this for me. Money be tight here but I wanna go to the CON!
-
LOL! Udie :)
By Saturday night, I couldn't drink beer hardly, let alone shots of tee-kill-ya. Even the smell made me slightly ill. But the HellFire Brew was damn good !
Back off guys, Dnils one of the evil Mean Old Ladies (MOL's) now, so he has to room with the squad ;) MUahhahahahahahhhhaahah
-
Jordi,..I do not have any idea how many computers will be there,....heck, I do not remember how many there were last year, but the Internet connection will be a T1.
-
I'll be there again, only a 15 hr. drive from Minnesota.
C'mon people, guaranteed best time you'll ever have with AH. No whining, no crying. Just good times with great people.
The hotel is fantastic, rooms are huge. Start saving now and I'll see you there in August! :)

From my house (here in Birmingham, AL) to the Hotel Mapquest calls it 654.44 miles and an 11 hour and 2 minute drive.
Is anyone up for driving out from Birmingham, AL area on Thursday night and making it to DFW area around mid-day on Friday? If I don't drive it I will be checking on airline tickets for the trip.

There was a damn good reason I didn't share :)
It was about 250 pounds and it walked off with you after that fire alarm.
Your sacrifice was not in vain however. You saved Sally.

You might want to check with some of the Assassins. A bunch of them are in that area. (including our fearless leader)

Anyone going to be coming thru west Texas on I-10?

A quand une réunion des joueurs francais ?? :p
-
C'est possible vu qu'on doit être ... environ 2 ... :D
-
 .... kinda expensive :( and to consider the travel on top of that. Would be nice to come some year though... in the future.
Our local 4-day con last summer http://www.compart.fi/icebreakers/MM01.html included food, lodging, sauna, net connections and open bar 24hours :) just with 400 FIM (= $60 US) :D ...yup $60, not per day but per the whole convention.
Maybe we get more foreign participants this year ;)
-
Airline fares....very strange, but absolutely fantastic!
It looks like I will make the con this year. I will be tagging the con to the end of a business trip.
Round trip from Bda to Turks and Caicos is $1,237.95. If I add in a flight from Miami to Texas and then from Texas back to Bda the total cost will be $1,264.45. So, it will only cost ME $26.50 for the extra flight.
Is that sweet or what?
-
Pongo: I got a twisty stick too. It's an unpleasant memory. We were robbed.

Lizard;
I am not going to be making the trip to the Con this year. :( Just put some money into an account for a house and it is taking everything extra I have right now and should be for a while once the house is ours. Damn real estate here is one huge bidding war.
Thanks anyway m8!
:)
