Title: Knights Organizing
Post by: MaddogJoe on April 03, 2002, 04:51:53 PM
First I'd like to thank Hitech and everyone involved with Aces High for putting out a great product, and also for continuing with the updates, and upgrades.

We are the  444th Air Mafia (http://webpages.charter.net/maddogjoe/index.shtml) and tho we havn't been in Aces High long we have a long history from Air Warrior starting back when it was on AOL in 1995. The one thing I've noticed in this game is the sporadic unity of the countries. Now I know this is "just a game", but to some, part of the game is winning the war. To do this you need unity and organization. We in the Mafia try to do this with our squad (at the present we have 40+ members) on squad nights as well as non-squad nights. Now I'm not asking you to join with us when we up, tho we could use all the help we can get ;) ... all I'm asking for is a little comunication. This will not only help us, it will help the others in the game the load the plans.

If your flying along and spot that poor old lone goon chuggin along, by all means dive in and get the kill, but if you should happen to "lawndart" yourself as you in on it, when you re-up please report the postion to the country, so it can be stopped. If you spot a enemy carrier group, please relay the location. There's nothing worst then loading up a plan, and getting half way to the target to find out your over flying an enemy carrier!!!

As with real wars, infomation is key! Report what you see, some of us are watching for these reports all the time. Yell out alts, enemy numbers, carrier positions, weather the carrier is down, or when it goes down so we can watch for the respawn. Any info you think might be important to a battle plan. With this infomation it will help everyone plan what to do next. It only takes you a minute, but it will make the game alot more fun for some others!

oh and for all those Bishops and Rooks reading this, Its ok we don't the competition to be TOO easy! :D

Cya up !

Yup, Knits work well together at times

Since I joined the MAW, its been great fun to have such a large group work together to nab bases.

....now if I could just get some of those guys to limit their VOX chatter...some of the guys treat it like a party line....hehe....I suspect all the other squads have gone through this at one time or another with voice comms...

The Knights organzied for quite a good offensive tonight.  Of course it helped that the Bishops and Knights seem to have some sort of unwritten cease fire and the Rooks are forced to fight a two-front war against two countries that almost always have supieror numbers.

Glad to have all the new squads aboard. I just recently started flying in the MA again with my squaddies. We've been content with just doing air to air the last few nights. But we will be doing some missions and taking fields before too long. We've done so much of that in the past that I've been really burnt out on it. Anyways, try to beat the assassins record of grabbing 11 fields in one squad night. :)

We CAN do this, Knights...

Gaming is gaming, but winning is fun too...I know some don't care about wininng ALL the time, myself included, but when we're close to the reset, at the very least then we should be coming together and closing the deal.

Dealer's choice, just my opinion.

Why do I get the feeling that this renewed vigor from Knights is going to negatively affect me as a Rook?? ;)

In a way, yes.  I played about a year ago for a while before I ran out of money and had to stop subscribing.  I'm back now though. :)

Nice to have you :)

Hope no offence was taken with my little statement, just that knights have never, and will never have anything to do with organisation :)

Ripsnort can get it going really good, but he's one of the very few who can :)

:) Wilbus...well maybe the Mafia and some other squads can take some weight off the old guy's shoulders...

I'm not into changing sides..I'll just go play in the CT if I get frustrated

Hehe, if you bring organization to the Knights in the MA, I will be the first to congratulate you on this forum :)

I am knight my slef and usually not much for joining missions either ;)

I'm not asking anyone to join our missions, tho everyone is welcome. All I'm asking for is info. I've been in on a few of Ripsnort's missions, and had alot of fun. Ripsnort's missions work....most of the time  :) because he uses good stratagy in his plans, and he has a "rep" for getting things done, so people join, which in turn makes the plan more successful.... kinda like a snowball effect.

What I hope to do is use the info or "chatter" from the radio to get the mafia and who ever else wants to jump on board into a successfull mission after successfull mission and start our own "snowball" rolling. Once the mob starts rolling, I hope more and more of the Knights start pulling in the same direction, and we can get organized.... kinda like when Ripsnorts on  :)

Maddog Joe - Welcome!

I had the honor of tangling with a pair of 444th P-38's the other day.

Glad to see your efforts in increasing organization.  I thought I would share some food for thought regarding the psychology of cooperation and achieving strat objectives as I have experienced them in AH.

Honch in another thread hit the nail on the head when he answered the question of why some folks are able to get a lot of participation and cooperation while others don't.  Commenting on a fellow pilot Fariz, Honch says:

Quote
Folks generally do follow Fariz and I'll tell ya why. For the most part, we don't care about capturing bases, destroying fields, or resetting the map. Most of us just want to have fun and Fariz consisently leads us to fun.  So to all of you desktop generals out there. If you show your people fun, they will follow you.

I think this is sage advice.  If you remember this then (1) you will consistently get participation and cooperation and (2) you won't get bent out of shape when people ignore you which well inevitably happen.

Best of luck to you and your efforts!

Seriously, I wish you guys all the best luck. Skillful oposition adds to this game a lot, milkruns are borring.

Just couple comments though. Remember, that successful mission and interesting one are not always the same thing. Keep the fun value high. Also, one mission by itself values nothing. Some fields you capture makes strat worse for you country, not better. Make a plan, every capture shall be a part of it. If nothing works, just smile, and try again. If not this day, then another. And, make it a rule for yourself, that every failed mission is your fail, every succesful one is a success of those who join. Give them credit, and blame only yourself. And, again, learn when mission fails.

I think there were good hints for mission planners by Ripsnort somewhere on these forums, you can search for them.

:)

As Fariz said, its not all about capturing either, its about mixing up the missions to enjoy the game, do a fighter sweep to a heavily defended field, maybe a NOE mission to their city..variety is good.

knits are funny creatures. One minute organised the next just mooching around.

But all the time they make yer head REALLY itch!!

how do i get rid of em???? :D

hehe on a serious note: I have flown knits for some years now! I will never change purely because from what i can tell its no different anywhere else and I think LW sort of suits knights seeing as how teutonic knights were German :)

besides i feel bad enough shooting down friends in scenarios let alone in the MA! ;)

thanks for the link Ripsnort, I'd already found it and added it to the old memory pile... you know the one... the one you plan on looking thru again, but never get around to it.  heheh!!

What you said makes sense, and I try to keep things lite AND pointed in one direction for the mob. I don't get discouraged if the plan fails, I try to learn from it by asking those involed what they thought went wrong, and add that to my own ideas.  As a squad we communicate well between us, and often announce to the country info on enemy sitings, alts, and so on. I hope the infomation "craze" we are trying to start catches on and more Knights will start calling out this info. It don't hurt to send out the info....unless you REALLY hit them keys hard!  :)

Cya up !

I think all sides have their ups and downs.  Knights may seem a little lost at times but its just a clever disguise for their cunning reformation.

Organization and communication is vital to winning.  And I don't play to lose.  ;)
