Recently bought a new monitor. (plug and play analog)

Offline in AH I get 63 fps in the tower and flying 60's to 110's with no radical changes during flight. No matter what is around me that has to be drawn. I can fly for a hour with no noticeable changes to the fps. (offline) :)

Online in AH I get 63 fps in the tower for about 1 minute then...."holy Crap!" it goes to single digits! Stays there for a minute or two then jumps back up to normal. 5 secs later back down and then repeat process over and over no matter what's going on in the sky around me.

This a first for me in any online game with regards to the fps changes. Anyone got a clue as to what might be going on here?

PS..as you might imagine I didn't have this problem with the old monitor. I like the new to much to bring the old one back online. :)

Just a stupid thought ... got lots of those ... but do you have the correct .inf file for your monitor installed?

Sprint,

All I know for sure is that it's finding the monitor in the nivida software. GF4 440 MX. I will check the .inf when I get home tonight.

That's really odd, but one thing is certain:  The problem revolves around something that is active when online only.  Because of that, I'd suspect driver or IRQ sharing issues between your modem (or network card) and your sound or video card(s).

I've thought about it for a while, and I do not see how changing a monitor could possibly cause this.  Monitor .inf files are simply a list of resolutions and refresh rates supported by that model of monitor.  (There's also a name and possibly some color information in there as well.)  Certainly nothing that would depend on you being online or not.  To rule out the possibility though, I suppose you could reconnect the old monitor and see whether or not you still have the problem.

One old issue that could be the problem is the connection icon itself in your taskbar.  Some video cards (especially Voodoo 3s, and some ATI cards) would stutter badly as those little lights flashed on and off.  Removing the icon would fix the problem.

When online do you have a firewall, antivirus email or email scan? Or any type of software that runs only when you are on the net?

I was having a somewhat similar problem.......I removed my video card driver...ATI 8500...and reloaded the latest(same version I had from the website....For some dam reason my frame rates are stable again and hi!!!!!...


It was easy and it worked..I dont know why..i dont ask i just shoot:)

Well, after all the tweaks. I'm getting very stable FPS between 6 and 8. DOH!!!

I'm pretty sure it's now a driver issue and I'm gonna start from scratch. Maybe I'll see you guys in the sky next week. Can you say format C.

Formatted HDD and started over. :) All is well, now getting in the 70's again.
