A squady shared this with me a while ago. This is an F-18 breaking the sound barrier. The explanation was that just the right amount of moisture was in the air to provide a visual picture of the conical shock wave. Look at the canopy, a smaller shock wave is forming there too.

naww its just a photo of an F-18 hatching. and all this time McDonnell Douglas has been charging for building those thangs ;)
