Title: What does Holy mean?
Post by: ~Caligula~ on April 07, 2002, 03:16:19 AM
Does it mean better or it means different?
Are there people that are holy by birth,or everyone is holy at birth?
Was Jesus holy by birth (since he was God`s son by christian belives) or he was holy by the deeds he`s done?
Are the jews offensive to all other people by saying they are holy by birth, but they say that means they are not better just holy?

This is something I had a huge argument about tonite.
I belive what one does is what matters, not where one comes from.
I`m just confused......what does holy really mean?

Jebus was Holy, Charlie Brown's halloween costume was Holey, and my favorite stripper's name is Holly.

I hope that clears things up.

Quite frankly the Middle East is the holiest place I’ve ever seen.

120mm holes, 30 mm holes, 50 caliber holes, holes in buildings, people, livestock.

I challenge anyone to find a place holier.

Jesus pretty much got elected to his divinity. Although the election was rigged.  The Emperor Constantine fearing that the leader of one of the Christian sects might claim to have achieved divinity, and therefore power.  Sort of helped sway the election towards Jesus being a god.  This made all of the "Jesus slept here" places holy by default.

Every religion believes they are the chosen people of God. Who would want do belong to a religion that said "Other religions are truer than us and God thinks we suck and He hates us?"

I found this:
Quote
Do not worship idols.
Do not blaspheme.
Do not murder.
Do not steal.
Do not commit immoral sexual acts.
Do not be cruel to animals.
Maintain justice.
Now here is an interesting fact. Apparently this is important information which G-d wants the Gentiles to know and yet this was the first time I had been told about it. As one who had lived for so long amongst the Jewish people I was in a much better position to receive this information than most Gentiles and yet it took nearly 20 years for me to receive any literature informing me what these 7 laws are and encouraging me to keep them. What about the millions of Gentiles who never meet any Orthodox Jews and are therefore most unlikely to find out that G-d requires them to keep these 7 laws?

Jews say keeping the 7 laws of Noah is all God wants the gentiles to follow. On the other hand jews have many more rules (there are over 600 commandments) they have to follow,or else the world will fall in darkness. They are obligated to these rules, and have a lot larger responsibility than gentiles. Therefore they are holy.
Wether I aggree with it or not I`m not quiet sure..after all I`m not even jewish to the jews (jewish father, christian mom).
But they also say holy does not mean better ,only different.
So my question is still:is it offensive to the goyim when jews say they`re holy just because they`re jews?

But that's just my opinion.
