Just logged off after repeated becoming aggrevated with lack of Rook organization at A10 and at A9. What do we have here? Have all the Sunday drivers decided to fly AH today? Three times I flew towards the fight at 10 with several Rooks. Each time my teammates ran away at the first sight of the enemy. Wussies!!! It seemed like it was every man for themselves.
It would have been easier to organize close-order drill with a pack of Baboons.
I watched seven Rooks (I counted them) chase a single A6M out to sea. Meanwhile, 5 Bish upped at the field that they should have been vulching. Once those 5 were up, it was not possible to cap the field with two or three planes.
While this is going on, our cruiser gunners ignore the Bish fleet just 15k to the east, and continue killing grass and weeds at 10.
There was almost zero voice communication... That speaks volumes. I will not fly during the day any longer. Too many thumbsucking schoolgirls who have no concept of team work. I saw one knucklehead with two Bish closing on his 6. I gave him a verbal warning and two "check 6" warnings. He barely changed course and was whacked in short order. Twice I dive into crowds of Bish to clear a Rook's tail. Both times, the guy I saved ran away, not answering my calls to return the favor. Wussie schoolgirls. If not for killshooter, I would have raced the Bish to shoot them down myself. Geez, I got offers of help from a guy up at A9 who was racing down to help (thanks Zulu), but none from those right there....
Another thing: If you want to take command of a CV, don't run off and go flying without giving up control. It's not possible to do both at the same time worth a damn.
Don't get me wrong, there were some people who knew what to do, but got no help from the school girls. I saw Cuckoo get gangbanged twice when nearby Rooks just ran way. Our LVTs were left without cover, as the fighters were either chasing lone cons or running away from even odds fights. Why is it so many up PTs? They are essentially defenseless against a swarm of aircraft. Grab a fighter or Jabo. Kill something for Crissake! You can't win a fight with PTs, period.
Well, I guess I've vented enough for now. Do I feel better? Hell no! I'm still disgusted. But, now everyone responsible for that debacle knows why.
Before someone says it: Yeah, I know it's just a game. I just hate failure at any endeavor.
My regards,
Widewing

Rude, seems he is quite close this week? Or it will go to "kill stealers" thread? :)
How about making bets guys? :)

Come to Bishops WW!
Rooks are like Nixon. All smile and no good ;) ;) ;)

Did those 7 get the A6M ? ;)

Perhaps you need to change your handle to something more fitting:
"GeNeRuL WiDewInG"
I wish you flew Knights. I'd love to see your reaction when you gave me a 6 call and I told you to stuff it :)

WW I saw today 6 rooks following 2 crap spits V, while a c47 passed exactly to the side very close of our town(down). None attacks the goon...well me :) shotdown the c47.

well widewing, next time you see me on, ask me to wing up, i'll not let you down (too often) and give you a lot of set ups.
i usually fly a pony (like a spit, sorta) so i can chase down runners; i also fly spits fairly well, and can fly just about anything decently.

I'd be happy to fly with you Shane. I admire the Leviathn and Nath team. Each can utterly depend upon the other.
Last night I tried the La-7. It certainly fits the description of "dweeb machine". I went 13/0 with ease. Tonight, I'll see how far I can extend that streak. I fly just about everything. However, since the Rooks are often on the defensive, I gravitate towards flying the Spits on the defensive or from a CV. I do most of my "mud moving" with the Typhoon.
I can see where some folks would like to see the La-7 perked. Properly flown, its a match for anything and overmatches the vast majority of aircraft. Like the Pony, if you keep fast and arrive at a fight with some altitude, it's nearly untouchable. I took on 4 Jugs last night, killed 3 of them. Someone else beat me to number 4.
Yeah, I'd perk it at 20.

Widewing;
This is a military combat game which 99.99% of people play with absolutely no military discipline whatsofigginever.
The only solution I've come up with is to find a sponsor, become a pro and actually hire wingmen to follow my orders 100% or I would can them. My squaddies are each paid $80,000 per year to follow my orders 100% except Bader who gets $100,000 because he can yodel and lives in Texas. We also offer full medical and dental benefits, a 401K with matched contributions and all federal holidays plus Hitech's and Pyro's birthday off.
My observation is that everybody else are volunteers who have absolutely no fear of a courts martial, firing squad, the enemy, death or loosing an excellent job. Probably the only fear these guys have is their wives. What's the use of pissing ourselves off? Your disappointmens are proportional to your expectatations!

P.S. Just had a brain storm. Get to their wives and have them withold sex from anyone who doesn't fly in an acceptable fashion.

LOL.
What about Superfly? And Yankee? Ronni? Damn man, what!!!!??? Do we make their B-days be local holidays ? ;) :D :D

Widewing,
I feel your pain....trust me.....
I fly in the day when I am waiting to go into work for a night flight. If ya see me up ask and ill wing with you. I have been winging with TRIED lately and been having a blast. Alot of guys want to do team operations just looking for some guidance. N8 is also fun to fly with....sorry about dropping names guys.
Just ask...if guys are interested they will be more than happy to fly together. Also, propose a vox channel to work on. I do everytime I get on but alot of those times guys just dont care...oh well.....Im always up for winging and joint ops.
My 2cents.....:)

Extended La-7 streak to 18/0. Added 2 Mustangs, 2 Ki-67s and a Lanc during two sorties at A24 and A25. This thing is a monster. Now I think that I'd perk it at 30. Funny thing about the La-7; I've killed 8 without loss as well as gotten 18 kills in the La-7 without loss. Guess I figured it out.....
Managed to get 8 or 9 in SpitV (one sortie, rearming twice) before running out of ammo and getting gangbanged over A25 by a huge horde of Knits. Great teamwork tonight at 24 and 25. Lots of voice com and everyone worked together like they had been doing so for a long time. I don't know why the "night crew" demonstrates so much more discipline, but it is clearly the case. A salute to everyone who flew at 24 and 25 tonight, both Rooks and Knights. Great brawl.

Widewing,
From my point of view, one (if not the main) reason this happens is because we do not have anyone who wants to build missions. I can understand frustration when somebody does, and nobody shows up, but I think everything is easier when mission builder is used. I still miss Zigrat's missions.
I really like missions, coordinated flights, and that kind of stuff. Give a shout on Ch1. I will help even as a decoy. I'm one of the most profficient targets in MA :D
Oh! and I'm with you on the La7 issue. It's THE monster down low.
Cheers,
Pepe
-
Pepe, the problem is not in building up missions, the problem is being able to "sell" the mission to the rest of the players. The procedure is as follows:
1 - You edit a mission that is useful for the actual arena status.
2 - You annouce the mission
3 - You wait, and wait
4 - You annouce the mission over and over again
5 - One or two players join your mission
6 - The three continues calling people for the mission
7 - Some ones as for more time to join, so you end adding more and more time to the mission
8 - After 20 mins you get six or seven players, but at this time the mission target has gone.
You see some good coordinated missions in other countries, but when you get there and start shooting down the cons you find out that these are really squad oriented missions done by overpopulated squads. Out of squad level it is very difficult to organize missions, and squad level missions where you are three or four have little or no effect against the enemy.

Just wanted to say, I was personally responsible for the debacle, and it felt good. :D

Where were you when 6 to 8 of us closed 9, 10 and p14 and captured them in about 2 hours?
Where were you when we shut down a11 and a15?
where were you when our CV was engaged with their CV in a hit and run slugfest (just off shore at 10) that lasted 45 min?
I admitt that Rooks are not always the most organized, but when we are we do quite well.
-
you got a long way to go to sell me on "organization". I can think of nothing less fun than overwhelming an enemy bass and fighting for the scraps or... being overwhelmed by an organized enemy.. Really takes the fun out of the game. I certainly don't want to hear all the drivel on the "room" channel.
Organization by defenition is the total lack of fun and fair fights. I fly with a few squaddies. We go where there are some fights. If the field is swarming with "timid" ack huggers (a product of both organization and fields being to far apart) then we will work the edges or I will drag a few of the brave souls out to be slaughtered. If our field is being hit by "organized" gangbangers then we will go somewhere else. If we squelch the room and don't look at channel one too much we do okay.

I just think if you're going to throw a hissy fit because people won't play your way, you should at least include photos of yourself lying on the ground kicking and screaming.

Like I said, I logged off when I became fed up with uncoordinated clusterf*ck that developed at 10 finally broke down, and prospects at 9 were no more promising. I refuse to get aggravated, so I log off.
I was there when the two fleets clashed. I asked several times via the message buffer that the person commanding the fleet turn it around and drive it right through the Bish fleet. You can't win a fight with one's back to the enemy. Fortunately, that is exactly what the fleet commander did. The net result was that the Bish fleet was completely destroyed with minimal loss to ours. After my Seafire was gangbanged over 10, I manned a 5" dual mount on the CV and blasted the enemy CV, contributing to its destruction. I then sunk 3 destroyers, and shot down 4 Bish aircraft. That does not include the three I got in my Seafire. So, I was doing more than my share, thank you very much.
If I'm in the fight you can count on two things: I will protect my teammates at all cost, and I will kill a truckload of the enemy. Ask anyone who was at 24 and 25 last evening how I contribute to the effort. No one within visual range gets bounced without getting a warning from me, even if I can't intercept the attacker. More often than not, I get the con, either on the way in or just after. Last night we had raid after raid come in from 29. I met every one of them and there were few survivors after my teammates and I slammed into them. I personally killed four bombers, ten fighters and picked up nine assists, in exchange for one, out of ammo, SpitV.
If there's one thing my fellow Rooks can absolutely bank on, it's this: I will never abandon a teammate. I will never ignore pleas for help. I will do everything possible to help them. All I ask in return is that my teammates watch my tail in return.
I cannot over-praise the guys who flew at 25 last night. Fester, Mathman, Cali, Kat, HtHide and Zulu9244, just to name a few. We were usually outnumbered 2 to 1 or worse. Yet, we beat off the Knits time after time, inflicting huge losses, suffering far fewer in return. It was a pleasure to fly with those guys. I covered them, and they covered me. It doesn't get any better than this.
My regards,
Widewing

Rooks and organization? I don’t know who or if anyone was running anything organized on Saturday night but it appeared to me they had there act together for at least 4/5 hours.
It was on the Baltic terrain with them coming through the north. I saw them pull of a separate and divide tactic that was great. They came in through the middle and pinched off two north bases. It was time for me to log anyway but I imagine those bases fell pretty quickly. When I logged on later that night they had us pushed to HQ.
They really didn’t hold that significant of numbers advantage either. I think it all depends on the time and who’s online.

I flew in festers 262 raid.. that was pretty cool :)

Widewing, I was there the morning you speak of and Rooks played like an army of morons. For over an hour I watched one unorganized piecemeal attack on A10 fail after another, then without warning A9 was taken right under our noses! I was amazed!
It took the Rooks 3 hours to get A9 back then A10 as well, this was sometime in the early afternoon when I started to recognize more and more quality players.
Here's the deal - Weekend morning Rooks suck. Period.
Is that harsh? Maybe but it's the truth. I have watched the Rooks lose bases, concentrate on nothing, defend nothing, not give 6 calls, not respond at all when given a 6 call, attack piecemeal and generally stink up the MA for months and months of weekend morning sessions. I think it's because all the good players are trying to kill that hangover or finish their "honey-do" lists like I probably should be. :)
I have learned to play the CT or practice my panzer driving skills and wait for squaddies to show up.

The MA is pure chaos. There is no organization to it, and there's no way you could ever organize it.
Either join a squad and fly with them, or rely on yourself to get the job done. Very few friendlies, except the experienced ones, are worth any frustration over what they're doing. I just ignore their icons and throw them 6 calls if they need it. Otherwise, I don't take notice to them.
As far as the La7 thing, that too is all relative. I managed a 23 kill streak before I died in it back in Tour 14 when it first came out.... then in Tour 23 I had a 38 kill streak in a 190A8 before I died.
A craftsman isn't good because he has good tools, he's good because he knows how to use those tools well.
Throw a neophyte joystick jockey into a La7, and I'll bet he'll only manage 1 kill with 24 deaths.

I enjoy and appreciate cooperation in the MA. I do not, however, expect it.

Hows this for a coincidence? I reached 23 kills without a loss and then collided with the wreckage of a B-17 that I had just shot the wings off of. Okay, I suppose that doesn't really figure as an air to air loss, but it shows up in the stats as a death nonetheless.
Oh well...
I agree that the pilot is a big factor. That is why some guys run up big scores in decidedly non-uber fighters. Skill is usually enough to offset flying a less capable aircraft.
As I get the hang of flying energy fighters, my numbers have improved a bit. Discounting kills of GVs and kills as a gunner, I have 111 air to air kills. If I discount losses to groundfire and accidents, I have lost 11 fighters in air to air (overall score is 194/41). That's a significant improvement over my first two tours. If I can avoid being too aggressive, I think the deaths would drop by 50%. As it is, I still tend to push too hard and consequently take losses that are unnecessary. All part of the learning process.

I was there that day Widewing and I do understand you. It was weird mess and I remember how I was wondering how we dont get those 9 and 10 back.
When we lost 9 there was no guys attacking vs enemy fleet. Finally enemy lost cv but too late. Everybody wanted just fight vs fighters. (maybe not all but most) Right after loosing 9 I started a goon from 53 and listened radio how people was going to hit 9. When I arrived to 9 there wasnt anyone?? I dropped troops but 1 build and ack was still up. Maybe ack was just woke up because it didnt hit me and I survived until some spitdweeb shot me down halfway to 53..
After that I concertrated 10 and took lvt, everything was down in 10 it was in our hands. Unfortunately VH was up in 9 and lonely M16 became and shot several guys down in 10 including my lvt.
Then I upped F4U and saw enemy fleet closing, I tried to attack it but enemy fighters were too many and I was forced to air to air combat. After I died I took a CV gun and started to shoot PTs and fighters + enemy CV. Then something came up and I had to log.

Gents....frustration abound for me tonight in MA.....my vote is that we let the bish take everything unopposed every night....LOL
Goodnight fellas
-
Widewing, atleast the rooks were attacking.
When i log in (late night, early morning EST) and lok at the knight population, we usually have the following:
- A big hug furball somewhere and two thirds off the knight just going there.
- A small attack group, that tries to organize attacks, but usually is fend of bye a more than double the size enemy scramble crew.
- Open flanks were organized bish and rook raiding parties rush in to capture one field after anonther.
Only thing i can do in that situation is pronounce on country channel that Base XY is attacked, hop over the base (if not already CAPed) or nearest friendly base. Jumping i my trusty D9 (LA7 or SpitIX would often be better, but i just love that kite) and trying to defend that base and trying to locate the goon.
i.e. yesterday i logged in, and found one of my squaddies defedning A18 all on its own. It was nighttime and he told me that there were low level JABOs and C47 inbound time and time again. I 1st had to supply A18 to get the city at least a little up. Than took of in a Spit V and fought most often 2 v 1 odds in defense.
After about 20-30 mins another squaddie jumped in. Now we were 3 guys defending 18. And through teamwork we actually managed to place pressure on 17, bye forcing the aircombat closer to it. We still had a constant stream of boggies inbound. Would say we were always fightng about 3-4 while 2-4 were otw to join the fight.
Than when A18 was save and our CV was closing to 17, suddenly knights wer spawing everywere, but not to attack 17, NO! They just saw the big red bar, with many visible dar dots cause of CV dar and wanted to join what looked to them as the beginning of a huge furball.
I can barrely remember when i did my last JABO mission, i have the feelng i am constantly defending critical areas. Often against superior numbers, every now and than i take a break and join a horde capping an enemy field or orbit a furball to get some "relaxed" kills.
There are exellent mission builders in Knighsland (Ripsnort & Hazed to name two), but they are usually not on when i play.
So i know what you mean widewing, but we can't force those guys to play different, they pay the same 15$ a month as we do and they all just want their fun.
It's basicly the same as if a Spit/Nikki-circle King calls me "runner" cause i don't turnfight him. Only difference is, you can't teach your countrymates with your guns that you know what your are doing. :D
-
every country same problems ;).
If it's not the nme, it's the country men :p. We have also the game to squeak about ;). Ain't live great :D
Btw. Naudet, where have you benn when your squaddies stole a large Bish-Base with only 5 pilots (2goons) :) :) :)
-
There seems to be a furball crowd in every country that does not care what happens around. In a small country like Rooks (in my flying times, late evenings GMT+2) that also means that there are less people looking after the home defence.
Last night we lost 4 bases very quickly and Bishes got one base from our home island at north (Isles map) while the furball crowd was having their fun at the center island against Knits.
I am very pleased at the counter action that followed though :) Many Rooks woke up and took back those bases fairly quickly. Bishes did not get to roam around at home island for too long.
Big S! to all who participated!
-
The only question that is relevant is, "Did those people have fun?" ;)

forget it kieran... they won't get it. This isn't about fun damnit, this is a sim!!!
widewing... thank you for explaining how good you are. A lot of times we never realize that the person posting is so talented. A lot of the times we are simply left with finding out on our own. I watched one of your kills last nite and if i you hadn't explained how great you are then I would have simply wrote it off as a guy attacking from advantage on a busy con and getting the kill before the other 3 guys could.
I will take all the easy kills I can get. I take em if they are luck or part of an organized gangbang. The difference is.. In the organized gangbang the action never varies and is..... SLOW. I don't care about risk free. Even someone as unskilled as myself get's bored with organized gangbangs. I can't imagine people actually wishing for em.

>>I watched seven Rooks (I counted them) chase a single A6M out to sea.<<
Ahhh! The mystery of flying in Rookland. I have seen it myself and find it pathetic :) IMO, the best thing to do is either log off, or fly in another fight at another part of the map. Folks like that aren't going to respond to your complaints or change what they are doing. Voice warnings or comms? Hell, I recall on that day, there were no check 6 calls nor, voice warnings issued at all in the 9/10 sector. When I see a conga line, I automatically figure it's a group of dweebs, and I steer away from them. They will only attract higher nme who are figuring they are dweebs and easy kills, and will feast on them like Hawks on a rabbit. My advice, get away from em and quickly. :)
Everybody pays, everybody plays.
-
I suppose I could argue that, if you see a conga line, hanging back with a bit of alt will reap some kills on the enemy that swoops in to kill the line?
I suppose I could argue that people are ignoring your directions to break off because they are having fun doing what they are doing, or at the very least believe they are and are content to exist in the false reality of their happiness?
I suppose I could argue the people furball in the middle of the arena because that is exactly what they logged on to do?
I suppose I could argue that people that want to be bossed around could find a common channel and beg people to order them around, thereby clearing the country channel of useless screaming and moronic and sarcastic jibes about the countrymen's intelligence?

I don't care about risk free. Even someone as unskilled as myself get's bored with organized gangbangs. I can't imagine people actually wishing for em.

Lol, after watching your conga line play follow the leader for what seemed like forever, I figured you needed some help as that lone Niki you guys were trying to gangbang was giving you all you could handle. Was the Niki driver just that good? Either way, didn't you notice who chased him down there in the first place? Secondly, he was undamaged, he was dangerous, and you were not making any headway. So, I came down and killed him. You don't like it? Too bad. Do a better job next time. Oh, and by the way, there's nothing easy about an 80 degree deflection shot made on a maneuvering con while diving at 500 mph. You whine because it was successful, but 95% of the time, it isn't successful. Amazingly, you fail to mention that I circled above you waiting for someone to finally get the Niki. You gents had plenty of time to accomplish it, you didn't. Therefore, I did. Get over it. Geez, the idea is to kill the enemy. Who cares how or when unless it was a stolen kill. From above, it appeared that the N1K2 was as likely to get one of you as you were to get him. That's not a stolen kill. You should be thanking me, I may have saved your life. :p

Let me summarize my squeak. First, I have no problem with guys who prefer to furball on the big Island. Have at it. You are keeping many of the enemy occupied. That's a benefit. What bothers me is that when people decide to participate in a field capture, they should make some effort cooperate with teammates. And, don't run way from a fight. leaving your teammates in a lurch.
My mistake was depending upon players of whom I had no knowledge or experience with to determine if they are newbies. Hence, when they disappeared, I should not have been surprised. When I was a newbie, I'd haul bellybutton too when things looked like too much to handle. I can't fault them for that. So, I accept responsibility for unreasonable expectations, given what I knew at the time. It's easy to forget that not everyone has the experience and confidence (or recklessness as is sometimes my problem) to dive into a big fight at an immediate disadvantage. I was annoyed because they scattered, but did not take the time to consider why they did. It's reasonable to believe that they weren't afraid, as much as they had no idea of what to do. Therefore, I apologize for name-calling or insinuating that they were simply too scared. Bad form on my part.

Widewing, your mistake is related to SA, you never end alone suddenly, most of the times you have time to see what your country mates are doing, enganging, retreating, etc and you have some time to act in consecuence. Every time I get alone is just cause I decided to keep in that situation or cause all the surrounding rooks are already dead.

Widewing, there really was my point. There is no way to bend the MA to anyone's will, and expecting it to happen is an exercise in frustration. Anything else I could say would be more repeating what has been said and is obvious, so S!

This was the situation: I take off from CV, and spiral up to 6k. I spot several Rooks milling about and suggest we head to 10, I'll de-ack it and we can cap it. As we arrive, I spot two Rooks getting gangbanged below and announce that I'm heading in, "please cover me". I roll in and shoot a Bish off the tail of a Rook. As the horde responds to my unexpected intrusion, I look for my buddies to clear my tail, or at least call out cons on my six. I spot them still at 6k, but they don't come down. The guy who's tail I cleared runs for the cover of the Task Force ack. No one responds to my requests, except Zulu9244, who is too far away to be of immediate assistance. I get 1 or 2 more Bish, but the horde eventually shoots out my motor and I bail out.
I was aware of the location of teammates and the enemy. Had my teammates responded, I believe I could have extracted myself from that situation and get them clear too. They did not respond.
I guess I'm spoiled by the quality of the pilots I fly with in the evening (U.S., eastern time). If I call for help, someone always responds and they know that I will do likewise.
My situation was one of my own making, I attacked 6-8 of the enemy knowing that they would gang up on me, but expecting that my teammates would pitch in too. My mistake was not knowing who I was depending upon. They could have been kids on their first ever sortie.
Whatever the result, It was my decision to dive into the horde, so I bear the responsibility of that result. Perhaps I should fly perked planes more often, as this will certainly temper my tendency towards being reckless. :D

When you announced that you were to dive an attack the eight cons perhaps your "mates" have different plans. Personally, I rarely annouce any action before that action is done and ireversible.
IMO, the situation you describe does not mean the rooks are tards (well, we are, but that situation doesnt demostrate that fact ;) )
Seriously, IMO, Rooks works very well, most of the time outnumbered and loosing the wars, most of the time not even enough to be present in all the fronts, but if statistics mean anything here, in the last tours we had a much better K/D than bish or knights, they are paying a big price even having two bish and two knights per rook.

the way i seen it widewing was that you were above and a couple of guys were playing ring around the rosie with a nik. I dove on the nik and missed the first pass (couldn't get on him). by the time I got turned around you had come down on his energyless plane and killed him. No big deal... I was gonna kill his energyless butt myself if you missed. I claim no special talent and didn't see any shot that you made that seemed special. You certainly werent helping anyone but yurself and were doing exactly what I (and the others)was doing.... fighting for scraps. You were just being more patient and taking less chances.
Organization and fields far apart causes the kind of fight just mentioned. I would rather have a lot of action so that there is less gangbanging and fighting for scraps. We are not all the super sim pilot that you profess to be.

What you have overlooked, or are not aware of is the two fighters I had to deal with before I came down. First, I spotted that Niki. I was at 18k, he was around 14k. As I worked around behind him, he dove for the deck. I did not follow because I had a Pony and P-38 stooging around. Eventually, the presence of my La-7 above caused both to relocate. Once they were gone, I located the Niki and circled above the conga line, descending down to 12k in a spiral. Only after I saw no progress being made did I elect to have a go at him.
Immediately after I killed the Niki, I raced right through the mob of Knits at 25, scattering them or causing them to take evasive action. Low on fuel, I headed back to 24, where I deadstick landed the Lavochkin, having run out of gas about 5 miles from the field. Low risk? I don't think so.
Now as to your other comments: I have never claimed to be anything beyond a dependable wingman. That, I believe, is something worthy of aspiring to.
