As an old..very old and long ago ASSbly lanquage programmer...I think I would enjoy trying this terrain building... can anybody give me some start up suggestions? To give an Idea of how long its been, back in '79 I wrote machine code diags for the Perkin-Elmer 7/32 and later the 3220/3210 miniframes...from '82 on I've dealt with nothing but hardware..so rusty isn't quite the word to describe my abilities...any suggestions?

First thing is to read the Terrain Editor help file.
Making the land mass in the TE is easy, laying the objects is somewhat harder, but with the continuous improvements of the TE especially with the error checker, making a terrain map has become easier.
Minimum Terrain Requirements are:
a) At least 1 field for each Country.
b) A Headquarter for each Country.
Note: I have seen terrains in the H2H with only 1 Field and never seem to have a problem ( even I have done this ) BUT! for me personally, for now on I'm going to follow the Minimum Requirement because this could be why some people, may every so often, get that "Lost Host Connection" box.
Minimum Field Requirements are:
a) 1 Tower
b) 1 Maproom
c) 1 Hanger ( not the structure but the ENTPNT set as Hanger )
d) At least 1 spawn point ( ENTPNT set for either a Vehicle, Bomber, Fighter or Boat entry )
That's it!
Now you need to ask yourself, do I want to build a terrain to summit to HTC to try and get it entered for the MA or do I want it for H2H.
MA will require more work and more stuff like
Fields: Vehicle, Ports, Depots, Airfields, CVTG
Country: Cities, Stations, Factories, Headquarter
Miscellaneous: Roads, Rivers, Tracks, Barges, Trains, Convoys, Gun Batteries etc.
H2H only needs the Minimum Terrain Requirements
The rest is up to your imagination.
Ask questions and watch this form.

thnx for your suggestions...If in fact I try this, I will definitely read the help files first..then try something simple..then work up to MA or whatever...thought a Midway terrain would be nice :)
