Title: Precision Guided Munitions
Post by: Puck on April 10, 2002, 01:43:01 PM
I saw a quick blurb around here somewhere that HTC was going to halt production of precision guided munitions.  As much as I like laser guided bombs on my B17 I can accept that.

Any hints on what the new model will be?  If you make bombing "realistic" (whatever that is) then we'd pretty much need everyone to up at once to destroy a single fighter hanger  :)  If we give single pilots groups of aircraft you not only have to switch guns, but guns on the different aircraft to defend your formation.

Just wondering what the compromise is.  Until then I'm going to hammer away with those JDAMs  :D

Flights of 4 buffs. You fly a buff, and you'll have 3 computer controlled wingmen with you who follow your moves, all drop bombs when you do etc.

"We had planned for 1.09 a new bomber system where a single pilot had the ability to control a formation of bombers rather than just a single plane. We have decided not to add this feature to 1.09 because its inclusion would delay the release longer than we are willing. We’ve been working on another major project in a film viewer/editor and had the development of the voice module take longer than we anticipated. It’s not forgotten, but that’s the way it worked out."

I think the idea is to reduce the precision guided bombs from one bomber and replace them with a formation of bombers that are less effective.
