Post by: xNUTSOx on April 11, 2002, 07:36:35 PM
I used a precision pro in RRPAC1 and was happy with it till it wore out.  What is best choice for AH with rudder on stick?
I will practice a bit b4 I auger into AH.
A few may remember da nutty1 from Az land RRbigpac.
Hope my F6 didn't get  too rusty :)

Consider the Thrustmaster Topgun Afterburner joystick/throttle system. Under $60 retail. Twisty stick or rocker on throttle. Works well. See attached image below.

Yes, Thrustmaster Afterburner is a very good stick for the money, I got one in Sept.   Even though it runs about $59-60, I have seen just the stick on sale (with out the throttle/rudder control) at Fry's Electronics for $10

I swear by my Microsoft Sidewinder Precision Pro...not the PP@ but the precision pro version.  I have 3 of them. (Sim addict that has taken them all over the world).  As for sensitivity, I dont find that it is too sensitive at all.  You can adjust your stick settings in Setup off the clipboard to help.

My 2 cents :)

The problem with the Top Gun Afterburner is that its a SERIAL stick.

Aka, in a few months it will be spiking like bush's throat when he met "the" pretzel.

Get USB, they are very good. I have MS FF2 Pro and I swear by it, its an excellent stick (MS? good? MIRACLE!).

Latest Afterburner is USB, mine certainly is.

I swear by my Saitek Cyborg 3D Gold USB stick.  It configures for lefties or righties, has a twist rudder (nice if you don't want to go for pedals, and its very comfortable.  Just my suggestion.

Cyborg is also cheaper than the MS stick

Title: Not a perfect stick out there...
Post by: cp52 on April 13, 2002, 07:32:56 PM
I would love to find a stick with lots of buttons where you can reach them easily and a separate throttle and joystick control but I haven't found it yet.
The best I have seen is the Saitek- I use the X36 but I believe it is upgraded now.  It has the most buttons for functions, a rudder control (I hate the twisty things) , throttle and  separate joystick.  It could be better but I think it has the most functionality out there now. :)

"(I hate the twisty things) "

Well, I'm sure the twisty things hate you too.   :D

Go for the Cougar if you can afford it. Otherwise the Saitek is good.

I had pre-ordered the Cougar, but got tired waiting for delivery.

I had a Saitek x36, the HAT wore out in 1,5 year. But stick has very good response and I like the programming options.

Hence I ordered a x45. I can buy 3 of those for the price of one Cougar.

I use the Saitek HOTAS with CHPro Pedals (USB)

I use the Logitec Digital Extreme 3D. I've been using it for about 8 months now, and it seems to work great in AH, CFS, CFS2. It has 7 preprogramable buttons, as well as an 8 way hat switch, and the twist handle for rudder control. It is affordable at $35.00 at most Wal-Marts or through Logitec's website. I had a Microsoft Sidewinder Force Feedback P-2 for about 6 months, but it died on me and MS wouldn't stand behind the warranty. I miss the feedback aspect, but for $35 vs. $105 and one less programable button, I'll stick with my Logitec.:)

The Cougar is shipping.  The US seems to be one of the last places it is shipping.  Right now the only people in the US have ordered theirs from an over-seas distributer.  I expect they will start shipping in the us this week.

I feel like a kid waiting for Christmas to come :)
