Here's what I got:
Brand new install of Aces High 1092 latest version.
downloaded 4-14-02
Removed the old version first, killed off the folders and actually installed it to my C Drive this time instead of my D Drive.
When I load the screen just to choose online or offline the mouse cursor is lagging really bad, it jumps all over the screen when I try to select anything.
Once I actually get into the game offline I get a Solid Framerate of 9 that never goes up or down no matter what I am flying around.
I have a Celeron 300 OC to 450 mhz
256 mb PC100 SDRAM
Geforce2 256 Video card
AWE 64 Sound card
I have it set at installed defaults right now with 640x480 I believe and 16 bit graphics and unlimited Frame Rate.
I've tried changing this around doesnt' make any difference at all.
Aces High was working for me in the 1086 version.
the downloaded patches I have are :
1086T to 1087
0186T to 1091
109T to 1092
so sometime during the installation of one of those patches things went really bad.
In the meanwhile i had tried to install a PCI 128 SB card that was junk so I replaced that back with my AWE64 card.
So basically I'm having problems before even getting into the game. Something is slowing things down so badly that even trying to choose online or offline isn't working anymore when it used to be totally smooth.
I used to get playable frame rates in Aces High with my same setup, not high Frame Rates but it would drop down to like 15 or lower only when there were multiple aircraft and ground craft all fighting at once.
Any ideas?
I dont' know whats wrong but I haven't been able to play in quite a while so I'm thinking about cancelling until I build my new PC (whenever that will be) and trying again.
I'd really like to play tho, I miss some of the folks in there.
Any help would be appreciated.

Btw last time I posted about this problem I don't believe I gave enough detail to what is happening so I've tried to do that in the above post.
It was suggested that perheps it was because of the Overclocking of the Celeron.
My answer to this would be, The celeron has been overclocked for a number of years now. All other games I own are working fine with it, My older version of Aces High worked fine with it and I haven't changed anything about the overclocking lately when this problem happened. Nor are any other of my applications or games showing any problems. Just Aces High.
I haven't installed any new memory but what I have done was install and uninstall a PCI 128 sound card ( removing the drivers and replacing it back with my old AWE64) and my Adaptec SCSI Adapter for my D Drive is having some issues but AH is now installed to C...it's all I got.
now, if Aces High has a definate problem with Overclocked yet stable Slot1 processors then I can deal with that I just need to know that it is in fact the deal and that it running smoothly before was just a timebomb waiting to happen.
Then I can do something about it for sure but I want to be pretty sure of whats going on so I can go ahead and fix it and play again.
Oh and I do have the latest vid card drivers, sound card drivers for my PC.
Oh and Direct X 8.1
If tech support at AH has no idea just let me know (you can't solve everything) and I will just suspend or cancel my account until I can build my new PC then come back and try again.

Did you try downloading and installing the current full game file?

Yes, when I uninstalled the old version of Aces High I went to the download site and downloaded the full current version I think it's the first one listed at the top.
I cleaned out everything that was related to aces high and also changed the install drive that it was on.
No dice so far.

have you checked your video settings?
make sure u are in 16bit, and no antialiasing is on
u may want to disable mipmapping in AH as well

BTW ..What MOBO do you have, and have you made any BIOS changes? I might have a 600 Mhz Celery that OC to 900Mhz lying around, not sure tho.

yes, I've tried it with 16 bit and 3 different resolutions both with the two check boxes checked and unchecked and one checked without the other etc.

I have an ABIT BH6 Rev 1.2 I believe it has the latest bios for that board which is if I remember correctly a 1998 bios revision..it's an old board.
Between the time of when it worked and now that it didn't I haven't made any changes to the bios settings, it's pretty much default.
If it's a question of chaning out the board then I'll just go ahead and wait till I get all the peices for my new system together
which will be:
Gigabyte GA-7VTXH
256mb PC2100/DDR266 DDR memory CAS2 Corsair
Athlon XP 1800+ Palomino 3D NOW! (Socket A) 266FSB
so far I just haven't managed to go comparison shopping on those items and I'm not really looking fwd to it right now so if I can just fix what I have I'll be good to go for a little longer.
If you have head anything bad about these choices feel free to let me know as well :)

With a cpu that old I doubt you can get acceptable framerates in AH even if you tried.
Some people had a problem with 1.09 untill they did a complete reinstall with the _full_ version installer, not via patches.
-
FYI I put AH 1.09 on my ABIT MB/Celeron 500 and got 45 FPS in the tower and 32 on the runway offline. I expect you should get similar performance with a 300 OC'd to 450. I think the soundcard swap might be the root of the problem.

I agree, it's not simply because the system sucks or I'd expect to see my frame rate at least drop at some point but it stays steady no matter what happens.
This also doesn't explain why the mouse has great lag when trying to select online and off line..
I'd be more inclined to believe it could be the SB PCI128 that I removed
But since it hadn't effected any other games and the sound is working fine as well it looked more to be an AH only issue and patches had just come out.
I'll root around more and see if there are any remnants and reinstall the AWE64 after wiping that out and check back here a few more times.
If that doesn't do it I'm in wait mode with a cancelled account until I get off my duff and order + build the new machine.
thanks for the help and suggestions so far folks.

One of the differences in 1.09 that may be affected by soundcard issues is the integration of AH Voice.
You might try removing the sound and video drivers, reinstalling the MB drivers, then reinstalling the sound and video drivers.

Actually I went romping thru the registry, removed anything that said pci 128, removed the soundcard drivers, removed the video drivers...what else...or and removed the scsi card adapter drivers that are tweaking out.
I loaded the scsi card drivers from safe mode and went back into normal mode and everything else was pnp found.
Then I went to look at the scsi card adapter cause it was a big cause of problems before and it says that because it was causing windows to hang that windows will never attempt to use it again.
Everything else was refound and the mouse so far is moving smoothly I'll do a frame rate test here in a bit.
Man I really didn't want to go thru all that it's like working at home...but since it couldn't be anything EASY, it's nice to possibly have it fixed now.
(possibly a combination of things caused initially by the sound card install and failure I'd guess unless the scsi card just happened to fail at the same time)
Thanks for the help again.
Now do your self a favor and go to the Oclub in the tech support thread (by Thrawn) and squeak about me as a stupid user it feels really good trust me.

Kay with CTRL+C and SHIFT+F3 I have just under 60FPS
I'm sure that will drop to around 30 or so in a really busy battle but at least it's still playable. =)
Yay!
