Damm, I have only 0'44 % kills of Spit XIV.
We need 109 K4, K6 and K14.

IMO Spit IX it's many many more dangerous waht Spit XIV. The Spit XIV seems well modeled, Spit IX it's a UFO.

Take that "14" from the icon and see what happens to the k/d ratio then.........Like all perk planes, it attracts enemy planes like stink on toejam.
Case in point:  Few nights ago, I upped from A44 in an F6F, just tooling along grabbing alt, trying to get used to using my feets to maneuver the plane now (    Hats off to you fellers who've been doing this for years....sometimes I get confused as a baby in a topless bar!) when lo and behold!  What do I see?
About 4K below me, one of my countrymen is being molested by a swarm of enemy cons.........hhhhhhmmmmmm.... ..."Spit14, Niki, Niki, Niki, La7, La7, La7, Tiffy.........what?  Spit14?"
So, in spite of the odds, I put that Hellkitty in a zero G dive and tore downhill to help my comrade.......
What plane did I single out as my target when I dove?  If you said Niki or La7, you would have been wrong.
Apparently the Spit14 driver was feeling invincible or something, he was lazily participating in a BnZ fest with his buddies.  As he came up, I was still coming downstairs, and when he pulled a lazy (and I mean LAZY) wingover, I lit him up and gleefully watched him fall to the MA earth minus a wing and other parts.
Decided to get out of dodge when I saw a few higher Ponies otw to me, ended up getting nailed by a 109 over the runway as I let down to land my "prize" scalp.   Even with the death, I got something like 3.7-odd perkies......
My point......it ain't the plane, it's the pilot, and the freaking icon that says "Here I am!  Come on, 5, 6, hell, even 10 of ya!  Come on!  I can take you!".  Flown even halfway smart, there would have been no way for me to get that Spit14.  The Spit14 is no more or less lethal than a Dora or G10;  either of the three can be untouchable, depending on what the pilot does with the plane, and what tactics he uses.  Taking a Spit 14 into the weeds under those circumstances was stupid.........having the perk plane icon only guaranteed the guy would not land that sortie successfully.

You wont outrun much on the dec in it thats for sure i rank it up there with the Ta-152 way to costly is fast up high.  Keep the tag on it.  got in a duel with one in my ta-152 at 20k was able to pull away finally amazing as it is.  30 point range would be nice.

DarkglamJG52, somewhat agree with you. It should be that nose-up forever ability of the IX not present in the XIV.

I feel 2000hp engine's torque in it.
other planes that have 2000hp engines will get similar torques?
or Spit14 will get less torques like N1K2-J or F6F?

Interesting idea for a base assault... Send in a lone Spit14, watch him fly through at 500mph, and drag the CAP away from the field, salivating.  Might be worth the perkies for a good laugh lol.

So I was about through for the night and decide what the hell I’ll jump in a Spit IX and do some furballing.  As much as I hate to admit it, the spit really has a soft place for me, I rarely fly it much anymore.

After a few ups and downs I called it a night and hit the hanger to see what perks I got on the last run.  Hmmm, negative 57.something.  What the hell!  As I look at the screen and see Spit XIV selected.  I had to laugh hysterically at the screen.

The whole time I never had more than 5K altitude.  10 kills and 4 deaths, I’m surprised the deaths weren’t higher with the altitude I had.  Seemed to fly well to me lol.

90% of SpitXIV pilots are flying it just like a SpitIX or SpitV.  At sea level it is only a tiny bit better than either of those two (in speed, but nothing else).  On top of that it has the SpitXIV label which makes you an instant target.  I'm surprised that it is even 1:1 K/D when it gets used like this.

People need to look at the SpitXIV and realise that it needs to be handled differently, either that or you may as well just continue to throw the perk points for them away.

I’m starting to wonder about this.

When I thought I was flying a IX, I was flying it like a IX.  Didn’t notice any peculiar changes between the two.

I found it interesting that while furballing in it at 5K I had about a 2.5 k/d ratio in it.  I also didn’t notice anyone in particular hunting me because of my icon.  The reason, I didn’t know I had the icon lol.  Could it be a perception issue?  I know that some will head for the perk ride to kill it but I didn’t seem to fly any worse than my current k/d ratio I’m carrying for the tour.

Is it possible that we want the icons changed to remove the perk pilots inhibitions?  I’m thinking maybe so.  Regardless...

Change the SpitXIV to Spit, the F4U4 to F4U, TA152 to 190, Tempest to Spit, AR234 your just sucking ;).

...tempest to TYPH, 262 and 234 to JET

As I understand it, whenever an allied pilot saw the 262 (or 234) the semi-official call was JET!!

Pinata icons take the fun from perking.

The Temp has a way better k/d ratio than a Spit14?  Why am I not surprised?  ;)
Whatcha wanna bet the Temp isn't being used at 25-30K, outside it's envelope?  Unlike the Spit14's I've seen, which have mainly been used down in the weeds, not up high where they can shine.
Find a Spit14 driver who routinely keeps his fights above 18K, say around 23-25K, and I'll wager his k/d ratio is pretty impressive.
Find a Tempest pilot who routinely takes his fights up to the stratosphere and his k/d would likely be near the Spit14's current one.
I may be wrong, oftentimes I am, but I don't think the Spit14's k/d ratio in any way reflects how lethal that bird can be if it is flown smartly and within it's area of best performance, namely upstairs out of the furrballing.

eddiek,

And just for that reason the Ta152H-1 costs 20 points.  Whereas the Spitfire XIV, which also shines at high altitude (admittedly it is better than the Ta152 in the weeds) costs 60 points.

Maybe the Spit14 should be 30-40 points.

Or just leave it at 60 points.  Doesn't matter really.

S!

You'll see it in the Combat Theater for 2 points in the near future.  Along with a 5 point Me262.   ;)

Actually, the Allied pilots had a different call for them: "bl_wj_bs", which later had a completely different meaning.

The F4U-1C has 3171 kills and has been killed 1546 times.

This is a real plane.  Spit 14 is a kite with a lawnmower engine.

The 14 is not modeled right IMO. I fought a couple of stangs around 20k in it and the 51 flew circles around the 14. Is this right? Its a hi alt plane for sure but I really didnt think a stang could turn better than it. Of course the Stangs have flaps they can extend but it still shouldnt turn better than a Spit at high or low alt. Never did like the way they modeled the Spit14 in WB's and the way they did it in here is even worse. Hope the fix it but I doubt they will......

LLB OUT!!!!!
