Nice full page add for Aces High in this months Flight Journal near the back where they usually have write ups about flight sims.

Cool! Waiting for my copy...I was wondering when the hell they would do a review in the sim section...wonder if HTC had to ask, or FJ asked them for info

Flight Journal has been annoying me lately. They had three of my articles that were supposedly scheduled for publication. They published one back in August. However, it seems that they have placed a priority on material about crop dusting and other less interesting topics, while pushing WWII and "Golden Age" articles to the back burner.
The articles are on the Gee Bee racers, WWII Test Pilots and Vought's V-142/143 fighters (sold to Japan, who incorporated much of the technology into their Ki-43 and A6M fighters. No, they did not copy the Vought, but they did borrow systems design and manufacturing technology).
My co-writer (Warren Bodie) has stopped working with them completely due to editorial issues.
We have asked for the materials back as Airpower International wants more WWII articles, and they will get it into the schedule much faster. Flight Journal pays better though.....
They could be the class of the field if they would set their priorities towards the WWII and classic aircraft readership, IMHO.
My regards,
Widewing

Thanks for the head's-up on the Aces High ad. I'm a subscriber to FJ since issue #1 and have this month's issue in my magazine rack. I'll have to pull it out - only got as far as the piece on the F-14/F-18 debate and Ethell's P-38 combat story (sidebar: Ethell's son Jeff, a noted aviation historian, journalist, and pilot in his right, died while flying a vintage P-38).
I recall reading a letter to the editor that complained that Flight Journal was focusing too much on WW2 and not enough on the civilian aspects of flying, which is probably what's prompted the inclusion of more stuff about cropdusting, classic airliners, and bush pilotage (not that there's anything wrong with that).
I noticed that this month's issue didn't have a model kit review. Too bad - I liked reading their build-ups, particularly the one they did of the WW1 Neuport fighter kit by Hobbycraft Canada.
I'm guessing that they'll run things in cycles - more civvy stuff this time, more combat stuff next time.
Maybe someone should suggest they do a piece on online air combat sims. That's what got me interested in aviation in the first place.

One more thing: the three topics you mention would be good reading. Maybe you should pitch them to Aviation History.

Funny thing is they do have a write up about online flight sims in the current issue but no mention of Aces High just the add.
