This game needs a serious fix on the numbers problem. I've been gangbanged CONSISTENTLY for the whole Sunday. Now, bish have gloriously :D won the reset.... 150 B - 110 K - 50 R.......... and, you know what?, it's *no* fun.
Either HT give this a think, or this is going to be unbearable for Rookland (It's starting to be like that for me). Perhaps this is the time for 2 countries.
Oh! anyone jumping here with the usual "turn in the bucket"...just provide with stats. I've been flying almost EVERYDAY for some 2-3 hours, during last tour, and Rookland numbers were usually 80% or lower from the rest.
-
Even though i dont fly rooks, i do agree. Rooks have been really getting squashed left and right lately. As a Knight, I always try to fight the Bishops when possible, beacuse i feel soory for those poor Rooks :)
-
I know that on other timezones there are more rooks and the thing is more balanced, but at night (Central European Time) I have never seen rooks in enough numbers to do anything but trying to prevail.
It's hard to log onto the arena every night knowing that, no matter what, we Rooks are playing against the odds. :(
Perhaps it is time to start thinking about going knit or bish... just to have fun.

Yes, rooks do suck ;)
-
If one team is outnumbered when the server is full you can usually still find a fight that is fairly even somewhere on the map, but try during off peak time (like evenings in australia) ... I have seen 30 odd bishes, 30 odd knights, and 10 rooks.
I have been switching teams after each map reset recently, and playing as a rook during off peak times is just painful.
-
Perhaps this is the time for 2
And if it changed to 2 countries, and one was getting gangbanged, would you suggest its time to go to 1 country?
This comes up every once in a while, and no, 2 countries wouldnt be any better, and most probably worse, the game would be one huge furball.
Each country has times when it is outnumbered, just grit your teeth, rise to the challenge and fight, or change countries.

If perk-planes would be free in a country with 5 or less bases it could motivate people to swap to there.
-
I like the Rooks. When they get hammered I used to feel sorry for them until that time they left their fields open to the Bishes so the Bisholes could win the reset. I thought it was kinda lame, but the reset thing was never my bag.
-
Swager if rooks left their fields 'open' with 30 players fighting 70 bish as usual, I doubt it's intentional.
I fully agree with Pepe - this situation has progressed to a level where you can't play on rook side and expect to get any normal fights. Every day the routine is to fight 5:1 against big strikes launched by a doublesized enemy.
On those few moments when numbers have been 1:1 it feels like a holiday and we start actually capturing fields. Rest of the time it's simply a struggle for survivial.
There's a reason why so many rooks log nowadays when reset gets closer - and that reason will drive them to cancel the whole subscription later, because the game is not fun to play when its downright unfair for one country.
7am my local time not offpeak hour, numbers 136 bish 129 knits 90 rooks. In 6 hours situation will be 60 bish 50 nits 30 rooks..
Rookland is moving somewhere else.
-
people have been beggin for this since day one . they arent interested.

TOWD, i recieved a nasty gram from Mage for suggesting such a thing as a method to balance the teams in AW.
I'd imagine the same problem exists in WB's too.
The basic reply (edited) was that in no way were side #'s goin to be limited because it could leave friends unable to fly together, and it could also create problems for squads.
Now I'm positive there has to be a method devised that could help balance play but what it is I do not know....
Free perk planes... won't help one bit... the gangbangers will just get to vulch 262's... the majority of players aren't too concerned with earning perks, no matter what they say as they takeoff in that spit9.
The mob rules... if they are going to hit base A4, I gonna go too!! (not me specifically) mob mentality...
tougher planes for the gangbanged... ... won't happen...
dynamic eny values based on player numbers per team... hmm .. do the players care enough for it to matter?
The only thing that comes close maybe a new strat system, which penalizes a team by having bases too far from HQ. All base resupply being based on the distance from HQ. Further away, longer it takes to rebuild without player intervention.
Lets say a generic figure of 10 minutes per sector... measured in a straight line (mebbe a b#tch to implement...)
This actually would be sorta realistic in a way...
I am looking forward to HT's new strat version in the works, maybe it will aid the little guy in some way...
Check my sig for more ideas +)

Am I the only one who's noticed that onling player numbers change more based on thier countries progress? i.e. When one side gets pounded for a few hours, and cant move up at all, people start logging off, causing the teams to become uneven.
Does a country have more players because they're winning, or are they winning because they have more players?
-
Innominate that happens too..
But for some reason it's like an unwritten rule that there are at least 20% less rooks online all the time compared to the two other countries.
Even more often we see numbers with biggest country having double the amount of players compared to rooks. That's the time when the big country starts launching big missions to rook bases. Sure it looks great to have 15 B26's and escort fighters attacking an enemy field with 3-4 low altitude defenders.
Makes great snapshots for the squad webpage.
Makes a good fight? no.
-
There was a time when we knights had this problem of low numbers. In fact, we hardly had any numbers for a long time. Now we almost have as many as the bishops, even more sometimes. By the way, when i logged on tonight, the rooks had the most online by about 10 players. It really does shift sometimes. Some squads rotate periodically which helps the balance but its just the way things are. Sometimes there will be an imbalance. This shouldnt be surprising. The only thing I can say is, if you are really concerned about your team having low numbers, try recruiting the unattached newbies and teaching them.
-
Durr if rooks happen to have 10 players more when numbers are like 100+100+110 that's no consolidation to the situation rest of the day.
Like now.. Milkrunners have invaded the whole middle country and porked the hq.
-
Perhaps the time has come to increase the number of countries to 4.
Personal I`ll stay rook forever, more targets this way ;)

So... at best we are even right? ;) :D
If the best we can do is having the same numbers as the other countries, that does say something, doesn't it?

<------- Changed to rooks last night when they had 70 players vs 130 + 130 Bish and knight. Will stay rook for a while, hopefully numbers will get better again.
-
What are you Rooks biatchig about, you have more targets than everybody else!:o
If I find myself in this numbers situation, I take up a 262 and have a lot of fun........
If you don't have enough perk points for this then stay at the over run bases fighting low with a hurri1 and you soon will have enough if your good enough to kill anything....
:D
LLB OUT!!!!!!!

Not a definitive solution, but in the last and most desperate and agonic hours it may help (posted in another forum):
Once a country is reduced to two bases, a new virtual base is spawn. The new base is placed just at the map margings, at the closest point between a map marging and one of the surviving bases (choosen randomly). This new base is really an airborne spawn point that will simulate reinforcements from outside the map, with planes spawning at 250 mph, 5k-15k (also choosen randomly per plane spawning) and leveled (dont try to spawn there with a vehicle ). This spawn point doesnt count for a reset and is deactivated when a third base is recovered.

Tsk tsk tsk Mandoble, you will do nothing but worsen the image other people have of you if you keep on giving useful and imaginative ideas for the game ;)

Oh, no, you di'-n't. Oh NO you DI'-N'T!
I KNOW you did NOT say AERIAL SPAWN POINTS?
mmmmm, girlfrien'....
-
Howabout a airship like in "Crimson Skies"?
There was also U.S airship capable to launch bi-plane fihghters and it could also catch them back to ship with somekind of hook....
And yes; I was kidding thought airship launching fighters was real :D
Edit: USS Akron and USS Macon airships (http://users.chariot.net.au/~theburfs/URskyhook.html)
-
Yes, I did and I repeat, an aerial spawn point at the map border once you have only two bases.
-
So what you're saying is that there should not be resets?
-
Resets are fine, constant 2:1 situation is not.
Airstarts wont fix that. We need something else.

Define WE? AH Community in general or the few people posting they have a problem with current system?

Bish have always had the most #'s and the most resets ( some rook aided)because they (IMO) are the most organized.. Rooks at one time had MANY more #'s than us Knights. Rooks have ganged Knights plenty in the past. . Rooks are tough customers when the want to be, find out when and why. I really don't feel to sorry for you.
KNIGHTS used to suck but one day we decided to get organized and it came in the form of mission planning. Knight leaders stepped up to the challange by creating missions and missions created winners. Missions are not always appropriate but, because so many have been successfull we have gained members. Not just some of your squads or the many Perk hunters who like to take advantage of large groups taking bases but the ones who really matter, your team oriented people. People who used to just like to fly around and get kills are now becoming more intrested in the ultimate goal of this game..taking bases. You may even find them doing something they themselves never thought they would do... flying a goon. hehe Even tho the game and it's maps are set up for basetaking that doesn't mean that's the only way to have fun here. If you have to many Perk Hunters and not enough that care about the real objective's in the game then you will lose as a country every time.
Rooks, ask yourselves when you do the best, when you have the most #'s and on which days do you take the most bases. (Hint)
It's on your squad nights when a few squads are having them at the same time. Sunday I believe is when you have the best turn out and get your best results.
Take more bases as a team and you will get more members in your country... Oh, and hit the Bish Hard once in a while.
-
After reading what i wrote I think i should have replaced the word selfish for a more politically correct term ..perk hunters.
Having fun the way you want to have fun in this game should be your own personal goal.

>>beacuse i feel soory for those poor Rooks <<
Don't need yer sympathy, just go fight the other guys :)
The sorry part is not fighting the other guys because they will give you a fight. The easy way isn't always the best way
:D
-
I tell ya I resent this thread. It gives the impression that Rooks are whining about being ganged, and that is the only focus. Well it isn't. I fly Rook and don't want your sympathy or your pissant responses telling a Rook to stop whining. Or the pat answers stating everybody gets in the tank every now and then...
Piss off. ;)
I say come on with it. I can also say from the Rook point of view that it's damned tired that the Bish will not fight the Nitwits, or vice versa. I can also say that both of them will always attack Rooks regardless of numbers; its what the dweebs do.
So, take it from this Rook; bring it on. But please don't challenge me to a duel like a sap when you finally achieve that all important rank which makes you think you are hotchit; I ain't interested. Fly fight and whip my bellybutton but, don't pat yerselves on the back and think yer doing something because, I'm comin back, and you won't find a better fight anywhere.
Take that and chew on it:cool:
-
Nitwits still suck :D

This charge that the Knights and bishops do not fight each other is funny. I wondered if the other teams saw that a lot. Here on the Knights there are always people complaining that the bishops and rooks dont fight each other! I have always thought that that was pretty much baloney, and I suspected that each team probably thinks it is fighting both of the others and that the other teams arent fighting each other. Now I know its true. If you dont believe me, switch to the Knights for about 10 minutes sometime when we are losing a reset, and you will see plenty of complaining about how the other two sides are ganging up on us. Remember, just because you cant see the other two sides fighting doesnt mean that they arent.
Now of course if the two sides have a similar number of bases, and the 3rd team is down to <10 or so, of course the two strong teams are going to both try to reset the weak team. This is natural, and its also natural that many people are going to log off from the weak team or switch sides in frustration, because its not any fun to lose like that. However, its the nature of the game and couldnt be fixed without doing away with base capture aspects of the game. Also, its not as uneven as it sounds sometimes. If say the rooks have 30 people on and they have only 3 bases left, they could defend each base with 10 people. The other two teams may have 60 people each, but when you consider that many of those are fighting each other, and that they are on the offense so they have to fly longer to get to the target, the actual numbers at the fighting area arent as lopsided as they might appear at first glance. The real unbalancing factor is the fact that in this situation, the attacking fighters enter with much more altitude and the fight tends to work its way closer to the ground as time progresses, leaving the defenders low when bombers arrive to pork the field. Thats just the way the game works though and there is nothing wrong with that. If you dont like that, play as a team and dont let your team get down to only a few bases.
The best way to help numbers on a team in my experience is to win a few resets. This will attract people from the other sides because there are always some people that want to be on the winning team more than anything else. Personally, I have developed quite a strong attachment to the Knights, and I wouldnt consider switching if we only had 10 players during peak hours, and lost every reset in 45 minutes. Thats just because I have always played Knights, and most of my friends are there and Ive built a loyalty to the Knights just like I have loyalties to certain sports teams. Winning resets isnt as hard as you might think either. You would be surprised how few people it takes working together to really make a difference in the game. You might think that 4 people couldnt impact the game, but if you get 4 decent pilots together with the goal of winning a reset and you have a few hours to play, you can really turn things around if you know what you are doing.
Dont berate the rest of your team for not caring, just plug away with the few people you have and make missions. Dont complain if turnout is low. Well planned missions dont need huge numbers to capture fields if you do it right (timing is everything). After you start capturing a few fields, people will jump on the bandwagon. Remember, all those people that are furballing that are making you so mad are tying down an equal number of the other team that are furballing as well. Let the furballers have fun their way, and those of us that like to win can have fun ours. Thats the beauty of AH, the fact that lots of very different people that like to do very different things, can all find something they have fun doing here.
You CAN turn around a bad situation if a few people work hard at it. Case in point, I logged on the other night and the Knights had the least numbers, rooks had the most and bishops were in close 2d place for numbers. The rooks also had the most bases, bishops were second, and Knights had 6. There were a few people making missions, and about 10 people or so that were joining them. Within 2 hours, the knights were up to 18 bases and what had looked like a certain loss and reset was looking very good. Almost right away the number situation started to shift once we started capturing bases. The rooks lost numbers almost every time they lost a base. Pretty soon, they had least number of players and bases. The bishops were still winning when i logged, but Knights were catching up fast.
Bottom line is, whining isnt going to attract people to your team, but winning might, so go out and try to win some, but remember, if your not having fun your doing something wrong.
-

Save it. This may be good, insightful advice fer what ails yer team but Rooks don't need it.
As to the whines, yeah Rooks have their share of em but, they do not represent all of Rookdom. I find your remarks condescending and unhelpful :D I suggest you copy them and save them though because, yer side will need them again.
I'll see you and yours in the next battle when Rooks are fighting a two front war.
No need denying it, it happens on a daily basis....laugh that one off :D
Bring it on...talk is cheap.

"The best way to help numbers on a team in my experience is to win a few resets. This will attract people from the other sides because there are always some people that want to be on the winning team more than anything else."
Man I haven't seen anything that retarded in a while.
Show me how youre going to win reset with 30 players against 60+60 enemy and I'll give you a medal.
"Remember, all those people that are furballing that are making you so mad are tying down an equal number of the other team that are furballing as well."
D'oh.. 25 players furballing against 120 leave still 95 players to defend the fields. Even if the enemy fights eachothers there are easily 20 players free for field defence at any time. You're welcome to try it out.
Field capture at those odds are only possible when the two big enemies are having a full battle at some field, enabling you to sneak capture. If you're already defensive, capture is not possible from any field.
