Not sure but iirc plan was they would cross the rivers submerged. Maus had similar transmission system like diesel-electric trains or some ships; i.e. Daimler-Benz petrol engine was giving power to generator which feed power to electric motors running tracks. When going underwater it was meant that another Maus would feed electricity to one running in bottom of the river.
