Title: CV's used as Battleships
Post by: Samm on April 23, 2002, 12:44:00 PM
If we had Battleships in groups seperate from the carrier groups would it stop players from missusing carriers for shore bombardment ?

First we'd need battleships.

I know, that's why I asked . If you were assuming that I thought that the cruisers were battleships like some handsomehunk you're wrong . I'm not stupid, and I'm no noob .

People park carries next to a base so they can launch aircraft from it and get to a fight in a matter of seconds... or get to the base-to-be-victimized in a matter of seconds.

The CV isn't brought near shore because of the guns... its brought near shore for a short flight.

It would be nice to have seperate groups, but it would do nothing to stop people from parking CVs 1 mile off shore.

Just how long do you think a battleship would last without air cover?  That thing would spen lots of time near port.

Not even in dry-dock!  Poor ship-builders.

The ships guns seem to accomplish little other than give away the cv position (or sink another cv group).  The good reason for bringing a CV to shore though is to launch LVT's - we don't have the real ships for launching landing craft so this is the only naval option to capture.
