Mann kann das Licht nicht gesehen, eh Jbroey?
...or something to that effect. Sorry, been 25 years since I took German...

Auf welches Licht beziehen Sie sich? ;) Kieran
Es ist wahr, dass dass Server dort für eine riesengroße Anmeldung befähigen sollen.
Nach dem, was ich sehe, haben sie 3 Server? Bis zu 600 Menschen jeder?
hmm..
-
last time i checked il-2 had a 32 plane limit?
good game, i beta tested it. but not mmog.
-
The Servers use UBILobby- one of the shoddiest link-up/chat/game launching applications I have ever used.
If they put those dedicated servers on Hyperlobby, then it'd be worthwhile.
And on top of all that, they only offer "easy" and "medium"... neither of which are all that entertaining due to, well, the simpleness of the game.... and the "easy" was the only one occupied when I saw it.
So what exactly *IS* interesting about these servers anyway? The amazing overhead UBIlobby has? Or the complete lack of a worthwhile server to play on?

Edit: Wir haben 600 Menschen allsuzammen. Wie vielen haben Sie dort druben?
Nicht jetzt, nicht jetzt...

Very cool post btw.

I like Il-2. I play Il-2. My problem is the intent of the person, that's all. This isn't a friendly herald dropping by to keep us posted; this guy walks right into McDonald's and screams "Wendy's has a sale on chicken sandwiches!", and does it quite frequently.

32 person limit? Hell, I'll fly the CT in that case! ;)

Actually, your example would be considered "humanitarian aid". :)

Not in my case...Several years ago, I and several of my co-workers came down with serious cases of food poisoning thanks to lunch at our local Wendy's.

ohhh Wendy's...
I bought 2 chicken sandwiches, walked home with them, bit into them,... and found a piece of the 'bread tag' from the bag of buns in each one.....

In my ultimate flightsim online gaming wisdom, I thought dedicated meant that they provided better bandwidth or something for your coop missions. However when I tried it today, it’s actually like a MA. I didn’t know that.
It worked fantastic for the few minutes I tried, until I got dumped from it for some reason, but crappy map/knee board aside, it was graphically like AH 3.8 or something. If this is what online play holds for the future, wow. Very cool. (Im guessing it will pry suck for connections till they sort it out though, but they did fix my studder with the last patch, so anything is possible. If they get it stable as Hyperlobby play, it’s a huge, free feature update.)
Thanks for the heads up, interesting indeed.

I see some contridictions or at least some further effort to explain what it means in this statement, "IL2 Now has Dedicated OC3 servers up."
1) They have one OC3, dedicated to the servers? Uhmmm,..no multi-homed backbone when outages occur?
2) Do the IL2 servers have exclusive use of this OC3?
3) How many servers, supporting a total of how many clients?
All for free?
Let's see, the last time I checked, a dedicated OC3 to a reasonable ISP ran about $60,000.00 (U.S.) per month. Business must be booming at Maddox.
Must be nice to have that type of sustained revenue laying around to spend :).
-
Hey they've got like 25 employees, who knows.
-
someone post the ips to the servers I am not installing that ubi crap
-
Creamo. I haven't tried the new servers..
like MA as in more than 32 pilots???
doubt that's what you mean but it sure would be nice!

Off Topic?

Ohhhh! Really!? This is what I been waiting for! I'm there babeee!

Oh boy, oh boy, I can't wait.
:D

christ... I'm litteraly chompin on a Wendys double cheeseburger right now while reading this... I didn't need to hear that.

"Online gaming may get pretty interesting soon"
is it ?
it's been interesting since 1.02 for me
i like il 2 but never play it as much anymore since i'm online again
why ? it aint got my favourite planes.
the view system sucks also
-
no MMOG... 'bout does it for me.
er.. I mean.. fer me.. sorry HB
-
Not sure about numbers, I haven't checked it out too much as I like the single player better, but 32 sounds right. Just imagine it's like the CT, but with 30 more players.
BUG, the view system sucks till you map it. Then it's outstanding, bare the argument of the limited 6 view. Mouse look, off a Saitek throttle is awesome, padlock works well too. I hated it till I sat down and figured it out. You haven't I'm guessing.
Don, your not clever or interesting.
Skuzzy, I don't know what a OC3 is, but I think this is just a free feature they are providing as a bonus, not some $60K mmog business. Maddox business booming? I'd say so. And I bet in 2 years this Oleg guy is going to be wealthy indeed. If he came out of the gate with Il-2 to win every award for a sim, I can't wait to see what's next.
I would prefer these posts be OffTopic though. It's distracting from the pressing "I lost a good friend from a anal probe poll" and "I got gangbanged and you stole my kill" posts here.
-
lol
agree about the view system
lol
he will be rich.. I hear that.. would love to see it MMOG tho
transfer this thread to OT damnit!
-
OC3 = 3 DS3's (3 x 45Mb/s) and it costs about $60K per month to have one of those. So they give away the access and are eating that amount each month with no provisions for having multiple backbone connections when it goes down, and it will go down from time to time. Seems to me it would have been smarter to have 3 DS3's to different backbones than one OC3, but what do I know.
As a business man, I would be hard pressed to throw away money like that which has little revenue in return. Yes, they buy the game but that is a one shot purchase, there is no recurring revenue from that one time purchase.
Like I said, must be nice.
-
Two words.
Russian Mafia.
-
I see your point Skuzzy, but mebbe they have plans to go into the MMOG bisness. (I have no insider info one way or the other)
But having looked at thier Lock-On webpage and their ground war (addon) for Il2 it seems they kinda headed in that direction.
I'm sure alot of Europeans would like something that doesn't require Translantic access to connect to.
At any rate I feel it's kinda poor taste for jbroey3 to repeatedly post IL2 info in the Gen Discussion Forum when he should use the O Club forum to advertize for a competitor's game.
-
Milnko, I did not know that, if they head in that direction that would explain allot.
jbroey3 is a name a few recognize, I don't. Don’t care either.
Still, it’s good flightsim discussion, the Off Topic Forum must support?
Anal High.

It is very possible they are going into the MMOG market, but not with IL2 in its current state. They would have to turn down a number of the graphic features to do so, as it takes a significant CPU to run it right now in full graphics mode.
What does not make sense to me, is installing an OC3 long before you are ready to go into the MMOG business and only having one dedicated connection if indeed you are going into a pay to play service.
I think it more likely they are sharing an OC3 through an ISP. There are too many contridictions here that simply do not make sense.
For a pipe that big, you have to make a minimum of a one year committent. That is a 3/4 million dollar committment. How many 32 player servers would they need to cover that cost and at what price point? If they dumb down the graphics for MMOG purposes, would anyone pay to play then? I really think if Maddox had intended for IL2 to be MMOG, they would have rolled it out that way. Retrofitting a game to be MMOG is usually a very bad move due to the perception already built into the heads of the owners of the game. Of course, when CPU's are twice the speed they are today, then IL2 in its full glory may be MMOG capable.
My personal perception is either this jbroey is blowing smoke up someones dress or Maddox has lost his mind. I really do not think Maddox is nuts and jbroey has yet to respond to any questions I have asked, so,...well ,...I think you cat see my opinion in here. There may be an OC3, but I doubt it is dedicated and infact may only be a burstable OC3, which would make far more sense.
By the way, where is this OC3 connected anyways? Who is the backbone provider? Who is the ISP? Is Maddox running this themselves? Just curious about these things. I am not impressed with a pipe to the Internet. I am more interested with who is managing and maintaining that pipe as that will ultimately dictate the quality of service.

ground war 'addon' for il2???? where... only thing i've seen is screens of a WW2 Real Time Strategy game... (aka starcraft) from Oleg
SKurj
-
They sure redid the FM in 1.04.
-
OC3?
Yeah right. Someones smoking monkey crap. The traceroute for the LOMAC and Il-2 webpages lead back to the same provider of the servers.
I think somone read "dedicated" and appended the highest connection he could think of.
It is a nice pipe, but I don't think it's even a ds3 never mind 3. While Oleg has commented several times on his wish to someday make a MMOG he has an add-on and another flight sim project to finish first- alltogether he's pretty much committed for 2-3 years after you include the support he planned to give Il-2 (which was planned to become profitable over 2-3 business quarters from what I understand).
Oleg provides great support for a Box game I have to say- and he's improved the benchmark MSCFS will have to jump over. But he's probably not more than periphally interested in making a long term commitment to a MMOG. I mean really, the probably wants to make money in this lifetime :D
