What were the Orginal 6 NHL hockey teams?
Boston
Montreal
Chicago
Toronto
NY Rangers ????
Detroit????
-
Quebeck was one unless Im misstaken
-
Could be.....I sure on the first four, but NY and Detroit, don't know.
-
I have a vauge recollection that there should be two now gone teams among those 6. Quebeck Nordiques and some other Canadian team from a (relatively) small town.
Edmonton?
-
I would think it prolly would be in the Northeast some where, in the old days you wouldn't travel very far. Quebec, could be, maybe Buffalo.
-
Hmm..yeah...so where is Edmonton anyway?
-
In the middle of Canada
-
Far from Toronto?
(I have no idea)
-
sort of
-
Edmonton is the Capital of Alberta. It is probably over 2000 miles from Totonto.
-
Monk got them all.
-
im sure on all of them except the rangers?
are you sure it wasnt the NY islanders?
-
Undisputable proof (http://store1.yimg.com/I/sports-k_1671_28297937)
-
What about Quebec then?
-
I'm sorry, but Quebecians (Quebecites?, Quebecers?) were not recognized as actual "people" until PC was introduced in the early '70's.
Prior to that, no one cared.
-
Hehehe, Thank you Target.
Quebec had a first team in the First NHL, but there was also a NHA, and PHA. I believe in 1925...? they all came together, and became the NHL what we know of today.

BTW Target, Nice hat.

Boston
Montreal
Chicago
Toronto
NY Rangers
Detroit
You are correct sir!
A follow up trivia question: What was the last year of the original six and who won the Stanley cup that year?

The Islanders were actually originally called the NY Americans. IIRC they folded just after the war and left the "original 6" that made the NHL famous through the fifties and sixties.
-
Bowser is correct. Those are the original six. And as of tonight, 3 of them remain.
however, even though I'm a Rangers fan, I love my hockey in the desert. Go 'Yotes!!!!
-
BTW bowser- 1966 last year, Montreal won it :)
'67 TO took it home but by then it was 12 teams.
-
People from Quebec are generally referred to as "Quebecois".
-
Oh yes, I can feel it, we have the Silver Football, now is time for the Cup to come home.
Bruins fan since................ahh..... .since......forever I Guess:D
-
Sorry Sclew....very close but no cigar. :)
Clue: Check the second part of your answer a bit more closely.

Jeesus bowser.
The answer is right. Last time 6 teams played was '66. Montreal won that year and in 1967 there were 12 teams. Toronto won.
-
Actually, the last season of the original six was 1967 and the winner of the Stanley Cup the last year of the original six was the Toronto Maple Leafs...not the Montreal Canadians.
NOTE: As everyone knows, the season is spread over two calendar years. The calendar year in which the season ends is always used when a single year is used to describe a season.
The next season, 1968 or 67/68, the league expanded to 12 teams in two divisions. The East division contained the original six teams and the West division contained 6 new teams...Philadelphia, Los Angeles, St.Louis, Pittsburgh, Oakland and Minnesota.

Isn't the Internet wonderful? You can prove "know-it-alls" wrong. :)
P.S. If you still don't believe me, you can do what I've done about 50 times in the last couple of years. Go to the ACC in Toronto to see a Leaf game and look up in the rafters over the ice. You'll notice a Stanley Cup banner hanging there that says...you guessed it....1967.
