Oh my god.. I laughed so hard when I saw that last answer. Please please please tell us how many people picked THAT one!
Oh, by the way, thanks for enabling the 1.09 planes in the DA.

C'mon... tell us! Some of us work for a living, ya know! :D

WARNING! DO NOT READ ANY FARTHER IF YOU ARE IN A CUBICAL SURROUNDED BY HUNDREDS OF COWORKERS! THEY WILL THINK YOUR HISTERICAL LAUGHTOR IS A NUISANCE!

C'mon you lazy bastards! I'm stuck at work...(Actually working too!)
Somebody get a screen shot!!!!!!!!
-
no screen shot but here is what I remeber from memory:
What 2 planes would you like to see next of these:
o Douglas SBD Dauntless and Aichi D3A Val
o Yokosuka D4Y Judy and SB2C Helldiver
o I have no preference or dont know these planes
o I do not wish to vote
o polls offend me ever since I was probed by aliens that time

Here come the flames.

Good one, HT
-
Dunno about you guys, but I voted for the Helldiver and Judy......haven't seen those in an online sim before.

I'd post a screen shot but I'd first have to remember HOW on my laptop.
Suffice to say the people at HTC not only read these boards, they also still have a sense of humor.
Life is good.
Now if they'd only fix the network connections to the main (I'm sure they can do so from their desks; there's a button they push that is labeled "Fix the Internet") so I can play again... :D

"@#^& her, sarge, if she can't take a joke"
ROFL, I thought I was prepared I said "sheesh, how funny could it be" Funny enough... I should have heeded the advice, and not read it with co workers around lol.

How could i resist of course i voted for the bottom option :)
-
From what i have read out the Helldriver:
Curtiss SB2C (Pilots dubbed it "Son of a squeak 2nd Class" SB2C, or "The Beast") Most pilots preferred the SBD to the SB2C.
Slow and ungainly to fly .In steep dives it was unstable and hard to correct because of heavy controls.
SBD Dauntless
Top Speed 250mph
Range 1,580 miles
Climb rate 1,200 ft/min.
UP to 1,000 lbs of bombs
1,000 hp engine
SBD2C Helldriver
Topspeed 295
Range 1,165miles
Climb rate 1,800 ft/min.
Up to 2,000 lbs. of bombs
1,700 hp engine

That is hilarious! Good thing I have an office all to myself, ever since my officemate said something about going to have lunch with some guy named Fox Mulder a couple of months back and never returning ....
From what I know about the Helldiver, it was a dog of an airplane, moreso than any other dog airplanes we Americans put out (the P-36, P-39 and P-40 spring immediately to mind) but what made the Helldiver even more of a dog was the fact that it came out so late in the war, when the aircraft industry should've known more about warbird designs. Being paired with the Judy as a choice is doing a disservice to the Judy (which wasn't a plane worth heralding either).
When I log on tonight, I'll have to vote for the Dauntless and Val. They weren't cutting-edge when they went into battle, either, but their track record in the early parts of the war make them accurate selections for historical campaigns.
Besides, the Dauntless looks so much better than a fat-tailed Helldiver.
-
I voted for the Helldiver and the Judy after some quick webpage looking - by virtue of Alt-Tab I found the following:
The Helldiver was faster (about the same speed as the F6f) and sports 2x 20mm cannons.
The Val is pretty darn slow and carries less ordnance than the Judy, which is much faster.
I too was somewhat torn on the SBD/Helldiver choice - but given how AH plays - speed sure is an issue.
-
"Helldiver Judy"? I met her once......
-
FWIW, being on the anti-marketeer side of the thread in question, I thought it was funny as hell. Incidently, the choice actually reads:
"I feel violated by polls ever since those aliens probed me."
:)

Dauntless and Val!

I don't think your reasoned approach to the issue was ever in question. :)
SOB
(afraid to upset Sudz for fear of repercussions from squaddies)

You can't have Midway without Vals and SBDs. I'll be voting for Midway.
-
Don't worry, SOB, I have a thick skin to compliment my thick head.
I logged in and checked the 'violated' selection, even though the probes were done by CIA operatives acting on behalf of an international slaver's cartel. The aliens I didn't mind so much.

Good one, HT"
Not that I don't have a scense of humour, but I have lost a squad mate because of that poll. And the BBS has lost one of it's best posters...If it was your squaddie, you'de probably feel the same way...:(
WTG HTC...Who are you going to "Alienate" next?
-
As i have lost a squadie due to HTs so called "sense of humor"
I to am leaving great job HT 30 bucks may not be much but if it adds up your loss......I think its one of the most assholish things Ive ever seen a bussiness pull  so come on you fanboys flame away but first get your nose outta there tulips .....The poll dosent bother me but when I lose a good friend over BS its gone too far
-
A. You want AH to be better.
B. HTC wants AH to be better.
C. You want to tell HTC what you think AH needs to improve.
D. HTC needs this information to make AH better.
E. HTC does not wish to share this information with the competition (if you feel violated by HTC's use of your information to make the product you are currently enjoying better, how would you feel if they made the info public and others had free access to the information?
F. You have the choice to participate or not, and always did.
If this is the make-or-break aspect of the sim to you or anyone else, you weren't going to be around long anyway. Sorry to see anyone go, but frankly the intent of the polls is to make AH better.
-
I thought the poll was hilarious.
Someone leaving the game because they do not like HTC's attempt at allowing the players to chose the direction they are going in, is rather petty in my opinion. I think it is an outstanding way to give players yet another opportunity to provide input to the direction they would like to see the game/sim go.
Would you prefer HTC ignore player feedback? Not only does this little poll idea allow direct player input, it also gives the player base immediate feedback to what HTC may be up to for future releases.
From the couple of negative reponses above, I hear you telling HTC, "We do not give a flying crap what you do to improve this game".
If anyone chooses (and it is a persons choice) to take it personally, that is your problem, not HTC's.
Added: Do you know how many people do not look at this BBS, but play the game? The poll gives every single player of this game/sim a chance to voice an opinion. Heck, they should put up a poll to find out how many players never look at the BBS.
-
Anyone wound up so tight over something so silly as a poll, is someone that should be watched very carefully (and please god I hope they aren't postal workers).
-
Hey Skuzzy there were 3 people that had the view of not wanting polls and it was a direct attack on one of them .....ya know if you would work on getting your servers going as hard as you defend HT this might be a great connect finally
-
Gwjr3, I was not defending HTC and getting the pipe in here is and has been number one priority around here for some time.
You see it as a direct attack,..your choice, not mine. I see it as a humorous comeback to the complaints. My choice, not yours.
I never singled out anyone in my post. I only know of one person who complained and I stopped reading that thread after that. I really do not care who complained.
I am a business man and I see what HTC has done as a brilliant move which can garantee feedback from as many people as possible. They are making the effort to allow players to provide feedback. How can this be a bad thing?
I do not see HTC holding a gun to anyones head. They are not forcing anyone to participate, they allow you to play even if you ignore the poll.
I do not understand anyone getting so wound up over something so insignificant. I wish I had such trivial issues to deal with in my day-to-day life.
-
arrg...:(
-
I must admit that I'm caught off guard by that reaction but I shouldn't have been. I should know better than to joke around like that publicly. It's 2002 and unwise to use levity without expecting to offend someone. However, it was only intended as levity and if I thought someone would take offense at it, it would not have been done. In hindsight, I understand why it was so insensitive and deeply regret it.
I would like to go on record to say that I meant no offense by it. There is nothing funny about propagating unfair stereotypes. I apologize to all aliens across the universe for fostering the passe image of aliens being rectally fixated. It has been made clear (http://www.hitechcreations.com/pyro/probe.wav) that this is an unfair assertion. I have nothing against aliens and would never intentionally denigrate them in any way. We will also be removing from the game the UFO beaming up a giant bottle of beer. It was not our intention to portray aliens as alcoholics or beer thieves and that was inappropriate and insensitive. Please accept my apologies.
-
at least you didn't say 'mutant' aliens with little beady eyes...whew
-
Heh heh....good one Pyro.
And for the guy that quit over this.....
Unless of course it was Sudz...in that case...
Please come back..we must have Hellfire at the con. Please Please Pleeeeease!!
-
the funny thing is the will gladly hand over their credit card number and other personal information but they get up tight over a question about what magazines they read over the past year.
The question is who are you turning over all this alien info too?
should I expect will smith and tommy lee jones at my door any time soon?
geeshhhhhhhhhhhh
-
not only that, but surfing the net means you're downloading 'spyware' all the time...
they gather much more information (secretly) than HTC ever dreamed of.
HTC is up front about it.. maybe that's the problem.
not sure if or how much spy-ware you have on your system.
This little free utilty will find it and get rid of it.
run it once every day you surf becuase you're downloading it all the time.

Well I can only speak for myself but I wasn't offended. The humor on this planet is one thing I really enjoy.

It is impossible to embelish such an assanine statement with a flame..I will mearly salute it.
Pyro..if that dam wav gets me fired............
-
It wasn't me, Sling - the beer will be safe :)
Even though I was on the same side as the offendee, I gotta say that I think that quitting over that poll, with its obvious attempt to diffuse a volatile issue with humor, is going a little overboard.
In a more general sense, I think that anyone who participates in the free-for-all, relatively anonymous venue of bulletin boards, chat, or newsgroups should develop a thick skin when it comes to other's opinions or postings. Not only is the language itself bereft of context and inflection, but not everyone is good at composing their thoughts concisely. And some people are just amazinhunks.
I think the alien option was funny as hell (hell being the funny laugh-a-minute place it's reputed to be :)), but it also showed that the HTC crew has heart, a sense of humor, and the freedom from PC nazis to express it. Just keep the corporate logo watermarks from the HUD :D
-sudz
-
Oh well....Thrawn had one foot out the door anyway from the way it sounds. I think he is going way over the top though by quitting over something like this. To each his own....and if these polls help get the early Pac planeset in quicker then I am that much more in favor of them.
As long as it doesnt affect the Hellfire. By the way Sudz...email me.
-
Oh my God!
Pyro does have a sense of humor!
eskimo
-
I couldnt resist. :P I voted for the "Alien" option. :P
-
Well, Pyro, while I was up in the Alien mothership for my monthly probing I asked about your apology. While they accept the spirit, they weren't sure if you were just trying to score political points or if you were genuinly serious.
The mumbled something about the "mind control" patches that you're adding to the new version. Subliminal messages about...something. Can't remember what.
Anyway. That's the deal.
Of course this was a throw away poll, anyhow. That last option would skew the curve right off the graph.
