Title: Pick ur russian plane
Post by: Duedel on April 25, 2002, 04:01:10 PM
I know we already had a thread about the MiG-3 but now that I knew a little more about early russian planes I would ask u the following:
Which plane (independent of th I-16) would u want to be modeled in AH first and why? I don't have a clue yet.
BTW I think it's time to get new fighters that are not RAF, US or LW (in version 1.11 or maybe even yet in 1.10)

1. Yak 1
2. LaGG 3
3. MiG-3

Bring the Yak-3 to AH! :D

The names "Yak" and "La" are on the list of planes already present in AH, would be nice to see a "MiG" making its debut in the near future before any additional Yaks and LaGGs are added ;)

And to continue the tradition of thread-hijacking: Bring the P-40 to Aces High, too! :D (Why not in VVS markings?)

Yeah, I'd like the Yak-3M-107, please.

If you think the Yak-9U and La-7 are uber, wait till you get a load of this baby! Spitfire XIV performance, but down on the deck.

Still under gunned like the 9U though.......

My regards,

Widewing

Why not and to hijack my own thread bring the Me410!

But didnt i say early russian planes??? I thought Yak 3 was a mid war plane. We got many early planes for BoB so now I'd like to see russian planes and to hijack my own thread the second time why not the P39?

There can't be east-front without I-153 or I-16.

I know my english is bad but is it really so hard to understand this sentence? Maybe its cause i made a typo (th instead of the). :D
For me many fighters are a "must" for AH even if i dont like them, but in this thread i would like to get enlightened about this three fighters (for those who forget MiG-3, Yak 1 and LaGG3). The thread about the MiG-3 was very interesting so i thought to open a new one about the alternatives, or is it ur opinion that we dont want  (need) any of those 3?

Yak 1b. Why?
Well, if I have to fly an early Warbird in the MA, at least I want to have a clear 6-view of the Uber-late-war fighter that shot me down :D

The Tu 2 was not seen in great numbers (about a 1000) compared to the Pe 2 and was useless at dive bombing. pretty tho.

The Mig 3 is sexy but of limited scenario (defence of Moscow only) use and zero MA use

The lagg 3 is not sexy, has no MA use but would be good for a few scenarios.(Moscow, Kuban, Kerch, Leningrad, Stalingrad, Kursk[which would also us e the early La 5)

The Yak 1 would have no MA use, be applicable in several scenario's(see lagg3 except the 9D is more applicable to Kursk) and is an easy graphic option.

The Yak 3 would have MA use but would be only little better than the 9U which was actually a rare bird by comparison. (Yak 3 scenario's Bagration, Niemen, Balkans, Berlin??)

Of course after the Pe 2 the next most required "Russian" plane is the P39 Aircobra.

Yes and before we have T34's we should have Katyusha rocket launchers........... IMHO

Thx Tilt for detailed answer:)
My knowledge about the Pe2 is =0 so i could' not argue about that.
For the other planes:
My opinion is, that MA usage is not the most important pro or con for modeling a plane (see Spit 1, F4F...)
For me the most important argument is the usage and usefulness in RL but not only production numbers.

Production numbers
Yak-1 ~8700
LaGG3 ~6200
MiG-1+3 ~3400

Yak-1 and LaGG-3 where comparable to their german counterparts. The MiG-3 was not regarding to its very bad low and medium alt performance.
Because of these and the already modeled Yak 9U and D my vote goes to the LaGG3 even if its not the most pretty one.

BTW I second ur opinion about the P-39.

@robsan: Hey Katchmarek, very nice one!!! I really like it :)

developed from the PB100 which in 1940 had failed to meet its production targets.....the Pe 2 went thru variants

The little pawn

Pe 2 1941...280mph SL/ 320mph 10k...........climb 9.2 mins to reach 16.4k figures with 600kg internal bombs including a 100kg in each engine nacel bay plus 4 x FAB 250 or 2 x FAB500 on the wings. I am unsure of the FAB weights as the max bomb load is given as 1000kg. wings could also take upto 10 rs132 rockets.  It had a crew of three with level bomb sights (navigator/bomber) and dive bomb sights for the pilot. 2 forward pilot operated Beriznins and one bereznin/shkas for navigator/rear gunner each.

Bomb load was increase in  Sep 41 and 1867 wer built by the end of 41

To the Pe2I of 1945 ........... 343 mph SL /  407mph at alt? 7.1 mins to 16.4 k but only 5 were produced before the war end

However with all the varients in between  over  10,500 pe2's were delivered to the VVs with over 9,500 of those being the dive bomber version before the end of the war.

Tilt

The Yak 1 and lagg3 were very inferior to the  109F and later 109g2 it was not until the La5Fn that the VVs had comparable  fighter aircraft and not until the La 7 and Yak3 that they had "superior" aircraft and then only when low.

wow thx Tilt :)

I prefer an early single seat fighter instead of a fighter bomber. But to be honest, yes it would be a great addition to our planeset.

looks like a suped up bf 110 :) what kind of gun is that in the back?
Title: Pick ur russian plane
Post by: Dr Zhivago on April 27, 2002, 11:33:42 AM
Well its single 12.7 mm UBS mg at dorsal position and theres one more at belly position. 110 twin mg is quite useless but this gun got some heavy punch :)

Not sure but i think that IL-2 got same gun at back.
