Title: Loose Deuce Shootout #2 - registration open!!
Post by: Exile on April 29, 2002, 08:10:24 PM
http://events.simladder.com/loose_deuce.php

I will initially be placing pairs in slots as they register in order to show who has registered. Once registration closes, the first round will be randomly shuffled. I'll post a message stating when the 1st round is open and ready to go.

Running for an extended period of time to avoid an opponent is considered a forfeit for that particular flight.

What does this mean? Two minutes? Five minutes? 45 seconds?

It figures that my squaddy Sandman would want clarification on this rule.

One question doesn't seem to be answered: When?

Hard to quantify but I think it's obvious when you see it happening. Extending is one thing, but "extending" across half a sector is well ... "running". ;)

This has never been an issue and I doubt it ever will, I just wanted something in there to remind people not to "extend" too long.

Registration will remain open until all 32 slots are filled. The 1st round will be ready to go right after I shuffle the slots. I'm hoping slots will fill up fast.

I'd be interested in taking part, providing that the duels are at somewhat "Euro-friendly" times :) , since I'm 6 hours ahead of EST...

Setting up a time and place to fly your match is left up to the players. The names of each pair are email links to help you contact your opponents.

I'm pretty sure that if you scream like a little girl while "extending" you have violated the No-Running rule. really!:)

Post by: Ouch on April 30, 2002, 11:08:09 AM
From the referenced page:

Initial Merge: Once within icon range (8K or so), the fight is considered ON and anything goes at this point with the following exceptions:

1.Guns may not be fired until after the first merge.

Ok, begs the Question, "What's the first merge in your book?"

If the "Fight is considered ON" once you are in sight of each other, then it's on.  Go guns on the first pass, and HO if you like.  If you can't fire till after you have merged, the fight is NOT on until then.

Having a very small number of rules is fine, so long as they are very explicit and not open to interpretation.

(As far as the running thing goes, go ahead and run.  We both have the same fuel load, and if your running from me, I bet I can make mine last longer.)

Ouch out

yes

I'm leaving the CM team and will be resurrecting my old site with the Loose Deuce, Squad vs Squad and the H2H Ladder. I need to work out the rules for the squad vs squad, but that shouldn't take too long. I'll have more details later.

There is only 1 1st merge ... so it's that one. ;)

I'm all for allowing "anything" once within icon range. There were quite a few people though that wanted this stipulation added. If it turns out to be a confusing issue and people want it removed ... no problem.

The rules are...You fly directly towards each other at same alt(No circling back, climbing and swooping..you can tell if the merge is nearer their base than yours)...No Firing guns until after initial pass(yes, you can have some separation..but after first plane is passed, guns are hot)...This my interpretation..Exile,correct me if I'm wrong........Whoo Hoo!..Round Two!!!!
Title: Squad vs. Squad
Post by: ZXMAW on April 30, 2002, 02:54:24 PM
I posted a mesg on this subject awhile ago and wanted to know if any base taking would be involved. 2 vs. 2 and so on could easily be squad vs. squad and probably are but a real squad works as a team to accomplish missions. That is what the game and the map are intended for and a large part of what someone would expect to do when they join a squad. (IMO)
There are many ways to have fun in this game and I personally try to take advantage of them all. Base taking using teamwork by far is my favorite activity here to take part in. Winging on the out skirts of a base takes skill, coordination and patience and can be a lot of fun witj the right guy. Flying alone can be a headache waiting to happen but when time is limited it's the thing to do for some quick satisfaction.

Coming up with rules for squad vs. squad duels when bases are involved may be hard to organize. How many lives would you get if any and how many bases would be involve? What time period would be alloted ect. ect.?
Seems a special map with ajustable settings would help. Any ideas or is it a dead wishfull thought?

This has nothing to do with the CON. It's a tournament that will be run back to back as fast as they are completed. The first tournament took nearly 2 months. I think we can get this down to 6 weeks. Later I'm hoping we can get some prizes involved if I can work out something with Pyro.

It usually runs like this:

1. Take off in opposite directions from same base.
2. Climb to agreed upon alt.
3. Reverse towards each other.
4. When icons are visible, you are free to manuever for the merge ... just don't take that direct HO as your first move. ;)

Will those prizes be offered retroactively?  :)

It sounds interesting, but I think it's better suited for the TODs. These tournaments are meant to be about Air-to-Air combat ... ideally 2 vs 2 and 4 vs 4. I'll keep it in mind though.

Also ... like you mentioned, coming up with rules for a "base capture" tournament would be pretty tough. Would it be defend and attack scenarios? Would it be time based?

I do remember a couple of tournaments in AW where we went up against other squads in a few different situations ... base capture, CO rescue, CO hunt ;).

I have come to the realization that these guys are just bulletin board monkeys exile. They wouldn't fly in a loose deuce competition if their wife's honor depended on it. Apparently they are all just flat out gay.

They don't have the courage to click here (http://events.simladder.com/loose_deuce.php).

Sorry, guys... a new baby means that I'm gonna have to sit this Loose Deuce competition out.

I know, I know... you're all weeping at this unfortunate turn of events.  Maybe next time.  :)

Once the first round is opened up it's up to the players to schedule and fly their own matches. There is no set time for people to show up and fly matches. All I'm going to ask is that matches for each round be flown by a certain date.

I hope that clears things up.
