Post by: Nash on April 30, 2002, 12:47:45 AM: What happens to the prisoners of Guantanamo Bay? Barring perhaps a couple of exceptions, I'll take people's word for it and and say that all these guys are some nasty, messed up dangerous people who'd like nothing better than to continue to wreak havok.

So ok... They're all sittin' in cells... prollem solved. But, can they be kept there indefinitely? For 50 years? Not formally charged or anything? Or at some point does somebody have to figure out exactly what to do with these guys?

Has anyone heard an exit strategy for this? Are they gonna eventually bring this to the courts? Do they have any evidence against people they basically dragged down the mountain by their hair?

"You are being charged for probably trying to shoot at an invading force."

No doubt these guys are guilty as sin... but man... I'm not sure how this stuff would wash in the courtroom, or if anyone would wanna go that route in the first place.

So what are some other alternatives? Brainwashing them and slowly letting these people wander out?

Firing squad?

It's pretty much a given that these guys aren't gonna be set free out of the blue. "Yeah yeah, like we said, these guys are Satan, but whaddyagonnado... we'll see what happens". Unh-uh.

And I dunno if anyone wants the spectre of 20+ years of detaining "matyrs, political prisoners, heroes to some" or whatever. When you have that on your hands, you're begging for people to constantly be doing do nasty stuff to try and get you to free them.

In a new twist... if I understand it correctly, the US/Brits have now taken on the role of jailers to the Palestineans that Isreal says are criminals, in order to get the withdrawl deal.

So they are now the proud new prison guards of Palestineans as well.

The Palestineans will eventually say "Free these men now! They are innocent!" And Isreal says "No no no! They are terrorists - you must not free them!" The US says... "Uhm... toejam...." Then Britain and Canada say "We must look at the evidence and have a fair trial"... to which the Saudis respond "Who's trail? Where? This is BS! Free them at once!" To which the US responds... "oh shreck me...."

I'm not sure it's going to be a comfortable experience transitioning from the "world's policemen" into the world's prison wardens. Not sure if they should go there... This stuff is prolly a lot cleaner if decided on the battlefield.

Thoughts? Has anyone one heard anyone important talk about how to extract themselves out of this?

I think there will be events in the near future that will make people foreget about these prisoners.
The world (the civilised part of it at least) should focus on how to take out Iraq,Iran and the other terrorist supporting countries.And when that`s taken care of,we can go back to deal with the prisoners of war.After all no german POWs were released untill the end of WWII.Why should we give them different treatment this time?

They've been moved from their open air cages to a more traditional style prison built in Gitmo, Cuba. The cages are over.

From what it sounds the US government has caved in too much to foriegn "outrage" and the prisoners are not being handled at all like they deserve. We're babying them too much and questioning them isn't being done right.

See what all that critism has done? It sounds like it's just going to get more Americans killed to me.

When they find one, and start screaming, shoot that one in the head and make the rest drag his corpse around. When the dead weight too much for the ones left to drag - shoot the rest.

Right after another documentary on the WTC tower collapse .. 9/11/2002 would be a good day

Sry, I know it aint the christian thing to do but my anger is still to close to the surface for rational thought on the matter

Tough call to make, lets compare it to a dog...you teach a dog to hate, lets say, Cats (Americans) since it was born, then you force the dog to lie down for 1 week straight, without anything to eat, and beat him if he moves one inch(teachings of the Koran thru political motivations and extremist fundementalism), now, try to take that dog away from its owner and try to teach him to love and respect kittens....it just don't work does it? Options? None other than put the dog down, or keep him kenneled the rest for his life.

I have a hard time drumming up good hate for Afghan mountain people. Before all this started Afghanistan was one of the coolest places to visit in central Asia. Multicolored school buses with little bells hanging off the bottom.. These trippy courtyard gardens you could sit there and smoke hash all day... Tall smiling people with super white teeth trying to practice their English on you. You could buy these finely embroidered shirts and blouses or rugs very inexpensively.

Wrong target anyway... The real target is about 600 miles to the west. Saudi Arabia or Isreal take yer pick. Hell just blow em' both up.

Wouldn't this make them responsible for thier own continued incarceration? The US can't take a chance on releasing people who are dedicated to harming innocents.

The USA has been fortunate that we have not suffered another major hit at the hands of the terrorists. Yet. If that happens, I think the prisoners on Gitmo will be squeezed a little harder, maybe chemically.

That`ll solve lots of problems.Saddam`s problems for sure,since there will be nobody to seek out and destroy their nuclear weapon plants,just before they complete their A-bomb.
What do you think he`s first target will be?NY,LA maybe London?
Hell...Tel-Aviv will be taken care of by 10bears by than.
