Hi Chaps
Excuse the sunglasses, but it's all the blackeyes I keep getting from iEN ;)
I need some serious explanations as to what benefits I and my Squad would gain if we come to AH
Only SERIOUS responses please :D

Cheaper, more action (more numbers in the arena that is), quick updates, good features (missions, built-in comms, check6 key, things like that).... half the price of WBIII.

What Rude said, and be sure to check out the HTH with 8 of your squaddies, its free 24/7/364...once you fly HTH with your squad, come online and try out the Main arena, then Combat Arena, and any Special events that AH is running (the Special Events is one of the few reasons I'm still active!)
-
a main with 400 folks at peak
cheaper
we are working to build some community events like TOD of duty
The Combat Theater (kinda like wb HA) actually has folks flying in it) and custom terrains
It all depends really on what you want in general.
The biggest draw imho is the amount and variety of the main. The main is packed. Theres a new larger terrain in the works but still 400 folks is a lot and its fun.

Support.
I have no idea what it is like over at WB, but support here is outstanding. From what I can gather, the community at large pretty much thinks HTC support is the something pretty special.
Me, I am the ISP for all arenas but the Main Arena currently. This is in progress of changing once I get the new pipes here.
I try to help with connection issues the best I can and provide support wherever needed. And before one of the local knuckle heads say it,....if you do not like my support, or the answer to any of your questions, you can always just blow me out of the skies in AH. :D.
But, like the guys say, you and your squad can just give it a whirl to find out if it is indeed your cup of tea.
Hope to see you and your squad up

I left Warbirds and I never looked back since. (Just be sure to turn off combat trim and the planes will fly the same/better than warbirds)
-
Taurus give the two week trial a go, it will tell you more than any of us can. Things I like over Warbirds....well there is more order to the planeset, sure it might lean more towards mid late war (although more and more early war planes startign to be added) but the WBIII planeset is just so all over the place right now until they start getting more of the WB II planes over. In AH there is also built in voice comms so no more setting up Roger Wilco, telling everyone the IP, hoping that IP has not changed, in Aces High you do it all in the game using the AH Voice app HTC wrote. Just select channel 5 and type a number in as you would for a normal text channel and thats it!
There are more maps available that get rotated into the TOD. A lot more variety in the maps over say WBIII. In the game you have a mission editor so you can post up missions for your friends and all they need to do is select a spot in your mission and then the game does everything else, it gives you all the same fule and ordnance (which you select in the editor) and places you all on the same field and runway so no more confusion and half a dozen people constantly asking "which field?" "How much fuel?"
Take a look at the news forum, you may not be used to it with iEN but HTC actually tell you what they are working on and also post teaser screenshots of upcoming planes. Off the to pof my head so far in the next release we're getting a Boston III, F4F-4, FM-2, A-20 G, A6M2 and an P40E...why do we know because HTC show us.
On top of that add a great series of events like the TOD series which is much like the WB S3 series as well as large scale events and small fun events like 'Wild Wednesdays'
The community here despite what they try and tell you elsewhere is very friendly. Get your guys to give the two week trial a goI'm sure you'll like it.
-
Revvin, you were here, then left, now your back again..just curious as to why you left the first time?
-
Rip> I kept an account open in Aces High and Warbirds for about two years, the only times those subscriptions ever lapsed was if funds were tight, one such occurance is when I moved my girlfriend and two kids half way across the country and set up home (always a drain on funds) last year I added WW2OL to that list but let that go due to al lthe problems it had. I kept the Aces High account because it was fun, it was interesting and it was progressing I kept my Warbirds account open mainly out of habit and the deep down sentimental wish that it would again rise and become the best sim, for me that is not happening and to me there is no light at the end of the tunnel so I decided last week enough was enough and closed my account. I may go back someday and I'll try new releases but I'm not willing to pay for somethign that is not fun for me anymore.
I don't want to go into the rest of the reasons why I left, one this is not really the place to discuss that, two they are personal opinions so I don't need to debate them and end up with a flamer for no reason and third I've not got time to type them all ;)
-
Thks for the post Revvin.
-
Just gotta say, Revvin, that response to Ripsnorts question shows a lot of class and panache. Glad to have you onboard.
-
Thankyou Skuzzy, thats quite a compliment coming from someone as well respected as yourself.

I just made the switch from WB to AH myself. I was a 2.77 pilot though...
Liked AH graphics, outstanding framerates (I am getting 20 fps in dogfights on a 64MB Celeron 233!)
Plane selection overall about the same, but some new things to try (LA-5, .202 etc)
I find the Main more chaotic than WBs; am finding it hard to fit in
I die a lot more here
I hate the fuel mods in the main; hard to get to 30k and stay awhile :)
I could never go back though ...
As a squad...
- You can fly squad night and not worry about upsetting the balance in the arena
- with the ground and naval game, you can come up with more varied missions (I love strafing PT boats)
- nice mission planner to help the squad
- built in voice really works well
Give it a try, I like the way HTC is constantly evolving it

A Quality Product with people who really care that run the business.
Most of all .... "Just PLANE FUN!"

Hey Taurus
As a 4 yr vet of WB, I can tell you that after you get used to the differences of AH, it's pretty much like the good old times of WB 1.11r2(except much better graphics and more features.)
I've been here for 2 years now, and I'm glad I made the jump from WB when I did.
The community is different than WB, maybe not as scenario minded.....but all-in-all I'd say if anything, the community is a lot friendlier and fun to fly with than the old WB crowd.
Hope you decide to give it at least a try.

well all i can say is read all above i flew WBs 2 yrs + and don't miss it one bit ... just the men i flew with is all i miss .... besides ..
all newbees in AH HAVE TO BUY A ROUND OF BEER FOR ALL ......uh ummmm :D.......... ill be in the Oclub :)
-
same here.. long time in WB, now long time here...
I check in the WB BBS from time to time and still chat with folks over there but I'm here flying full time.
All the above reasons with emphaisis on service.
-
I can think of seven good reasons.
In no particular order:
Ronni
Superfly
Aurelius
Natedog
Yankee
HiTech
Pyro
There's the AH team. I've seen them all post on the boards here. I've seen them handle outragous flames directed at them, I've seen them respond to well documented requests to change the flight model, I've seen them joking around with people. If you've got a problem with the game the person answering you will be the person responsible for that segment; be it code or graphics or whatever.
I've seen the inside of some game companies (I had the most esposure to 3DO back in the Meridian daze) and I've never even HEARD of an online game with the kind of close communications we get with the AH dev team. It's more than worth a look.
You'll also find the community here is pretty good, except for the luftdweebs, spitdweebs, HOdweebs, Altdweebs, LA7dweebs, N1Kdweebs, kamakazidweebs, ostidweebs, Runstangdweebs, Bishops, and Rooks. Everyone else is great :D
-
They have given good reasons.
When you get used to the Flight Model, you won't believe how mushy the WB FM seems.
Customer service is outstanding at AH.
Updates and new features come a whole lot faster at AH keeping the game fresher.
Gunnery and damage modeling is good, and certainly more stable that at WB where they constantly messed with it to please differant special interests.
No MG (big plus to AH)
Give it a try, 2 weeks free without even offering up your credit card.
Be sure to learn how to adjust your views right away, its important for the 6 view.
Good luck,
Dago

Taurus, I've been over here about a week. Flew a good bit over the weekend.
The Main is 200 plus more than not. Has the feel of the OLD WB a few years back.
What I like is, I've had FUN. Just simple fun.
I got so worked up over what wasn't happening over there that I lost the fun.
I think I've found it again.
2 week trial, bring um all.
The Main is like the old days :)

I've never loooked back. I still maintain a Warbird account, but at the 9.99 level--and honestly I'm thinking of it as more of a charitable donation. Everything everyone says here is true: the support, the updates, the fact that all changes are well thought out rather than panic responses. On a first look you'll notice that the plane graphics and particle effects aren't quite as good, although the tracers and terrains look much better. Flak actually looks like flak, and when diving in on a convoy, the AA coming up at you looks like everything you've seen from WW2 footage.
But most of all, it just feels like a product that is going places, and you can tell that most of all in how positive most of the players feel about it.
Look forward to seeing you up there,
-
Taurus,
DL AH and play in the H2H area for a few day with your squad. Basically getting familiar with the controls and FM. Then do the two week trial.
I never had a problem with the difference of the flight model due to this was my first On-line flight simulation. So everything was new to me right off. Ive been here since Oct 1999. I always have fun due to I leave my ego out of it. You've been in flight simulations long enought to know about that! :)
If you do the 2 week trial make sure you fly Knights a few times and give me a hollar if I am on. Unless Im doing a squad thingie, I'll drop what Im doing and come fly with ya all!! :)
Warning: If you and your squad do decide to join up with this simulation a physical is required. I believe Ripsnort and Funked perform the examination. Rips keeps his rubber gloves in the freezer and Funked....well he doesn't wear any gloves! :)
Enjoy and hope to see ya up!!!!

aces high has skuzzy and HTC.
2 week free trial.
(jedi mind trick)
you will now start your 2 week free trial
-
All of the above plus
HTC has the best Customer service in the world.
A single phone call or email and problem solved.
No fuss, no muss, just quiet profesionalism.
A sim where the Designers still fly.
Where HiTech will drop in & talk, ask & answer questions.
And a Dev team that is so tight and so good that they turn out jaw dropping features plus new planes plus little fixes every 3 to 4 months.
-
I really appreciate the response I'm getting from you guys, so thanks a million :D This place does have a real community feel about it ;)
One thing concerns me though, the number of posts relating to CTD events due to bad connex! What are your views and experiences on this please?

The connection to the main arena, depending on how lucky you are, where you live, the position of the moon relative to migrating herds of carabou, and the size of Salmon in the Columbia river basin, could suck start a Harley.
HTC and Skuzzy (HiTech's personal packet jock) are jumping through hoops to fix this, but are still forced to wear asbestous underwear.
The main is on a different machine at a different location than all the other arenas, as I understand it. Once Skuzzy gets his new circuit in they're going to move it over to his place.
The last couple weeks I've been having connect problems, so I tend to practice off line (ever try to take a fully loaded F4U-1D off a carrier? I can do it every other time now) and flying bombers. On those nights when I can find a good route I'll fly fighters in the main. Up until a couple weeks ago I didn't have any problems at all. Rock-steady connect and every packet hit the servers rather than the floor.
Connection problems are (relativly) transitory. They'll get it fixed. The game itself is pure gold.
-
There have been some complaints of bad connections recently, but HTC is on the verge of eliminating them with a much bigger pipe. Overall, I think the majority of people have superb connections.
Personally, I've never lost connection more than 3 times in the 2+ years I've been playing AH, and my ping times are usually under 50ms.
Even at it's worst, it's always 10 times better connection than WB ever was.

Big Ooooops here  Some of my Squad(s) are Mac users!!! Any known issues here?

Well, there's always Fighter Ops! ;) And of course, you can buy a PC that will run AH for under $500 in todays world.
-
Any known issues here?
Nope, no Mac issues here.
D'oh!
Sorry, couldn't resist. :)
-
"Any known issues here? (re:Mac users)"
None that the Amiga users haven't had to deal with.
RC
-
Nope no MAC issues, the PC version just rolls on without being hindered ;)
-
what's a MAC?
something at McDonalds right?
-
I think partly the reason AH has been so successful and quick is because htc isn't trying to work on two versions of the game at once?
Either way there is no mac support which is too bad for your squad. :( Sounds like you would have fit in well here too
