I fly with my squad (knits) during the Texas day, and with other friends (rooks) at night.
Is it at all possible to permit side switching more frequently than the current twelve hours? Even six hours would make me happy.
Espionage isn't such a big problem that you have to be so restrictive on all of us.
It will never be that big of a problem.
I also understand that a good deal of the AH community will be against me. But should we really set our standards by those who are too afraid to discover that each country is pretty much like any other?
-
Yea I second that.
-
Yeah, I think he's right.
mostly because I hafta wait for him to change over to rooks every night. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
-
Yeah I don't see why the delay should be so long. An hour is plenty.
-
i agree i too would like to be able to switch during the day and night
-
Pipe in your way old and pointless "they will cheat" reasoning Pongo.
It should be much shorter, agreed.
Its nice to join other squads and meet new guys. This totally discriminates against interaction like that.
-
Absolutly NOT. Of course this will be abused. Make it a week and have done with it!

Personally I side sides more often to help out the current underdog, but the time penalty is too restrictive. WOuld like to see this changed too.
-
I agree, 6 hours is a good standard.
Just make it you have to fly one country at least 24 hrs. or longer to recieve any reset perks.

As always, I think shorter is much better. Even if spying did/does occur, who really cares? And, if memory serves me correctly, the reason for the switch wasn't spying, it was the fact that some guys were upset about people switching sides to end an overwhelming side's abuse of a weak side- that is, they switched to high side to force the reset. Some guys were really pissed they couldn't preserve easy vultching, or that they couldn't just "own".
"What are you doing, Kieren?!"
"I'm flying the goon into the base."
"Why? If we get that field, we reset!"
"Yes, I know."
"Don't do that! We worked for a whole afternoon to get the fields where they are!!"
"What's the point? Are you going to keep it this way forever?"
"Muahahaha!"
Anyone else remember the events? Hitech happened to be in the arena shortly after one of these "episodes" and people screamed "set the time limit up!" He said "24 hours long enough?" The crowd said "Yes!" and here we are a year later.
-
I agree. It is too long at present. In WB i changed sides a lot. Normally to join the underdogs to balance numbers.
I always found it more fun to have lots of targets than to compete with 20 others for a single kill.
Thus I also had several tours of more than 1000 kills a tour of duty. Could never do that being on the numbers team.
-
cc kieran, but 6 hours sounds better than 12 now. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Creamo. relax
I have seen people hang out at a field and tell their buds when the goon was coming in.
I have seen people change sides to use our dar against us.
I saw mitsu just recently change sides to get in on shooting down a huge buff mission that we launched.Even your heros do it.
That whole thing about people ending a vulch by switching sides to capture the last base I thougth was crap. I think its crap to deliberatley keep a county in that state.
I do think its funny that one of the people most likly to take advantage and cheat and think it was funny that people didnt like it is here critisizing me.
If it was an hour then cheating would be rampant. Hell we had someone from another county spying on our rw a few months ago.
The 5 people that legitimatly want to change sides more often would be lost in a wave of cheaters that did it for "thier squad".
If people are doing it with the 12 hour wait. what happens with a 1 hour wait.
I think that 6 would be fine. Probably equivelent to 12. As I understand it the 12 was just the result of a channel 1 pole the night that the reset was forced.
-
The thing is, who gives a flying fart if it's abused or not? It's just the Pork Arena anyways. It's basically a practice arena. Does anybody really care one way or another which chess piece is ahead in the landgrab porkfest? If somebody cares about it so much that they will cheat or spy, then let 'em. Who gives a crap.

I agree 6 hrs is good tho i never change im a die hard knight but ya never know (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Funked, A lot of people care. Allowing quick change of sides would probably put an end to organised missions being set up because no one would take the trouble to set up a serious bombing mission (for example) only to find a huge nme fighter force waiting for it 'cos some amazinhunk had decided to swap sides and organise opposition.
This wouldn't affect peeps who are just in it for their individual score, but organised tactics are important to many.
I sympathise with the few people who would like to see this implemented to suit their own personal situations but it would be bad for the game in general, IMHO.
Best wishes,
Tjay.

hmmm...
Crap that people wanted to end the pointless seige, or crap that it didn't happen?
On the former I disagree; I had a few players tell me they very much intended to hold the arena in stasis for as long as they could, just for the glory of "owning". Not much fun there, is there?
On the latter, I know it happened because I for one did switch and goon to reset in such a situation. I would do it again in a heartbeat, too. It isn't much of a combat sim if planes can't even lift off in opposition.
I don't care if sides are balanced. I don't care if people spy. I don't care if people switch sides for whatever reason. Like Funked says, "so what?" What I do care about is finding something fun to do while I am online- and circling over some base waiting my turn in line to vultch doesn't sound like much fun to me. I'm also not megalomaniacal enough to want to stare at an all-green map just for the joy of "owning".
Now if you say you think it is crap that a country would hold another down to two bases, and no one on your side makes a move to take the last base, what is the opposing side supposed to do? Fight back? How? This is the logic that totally escapes me- there are people that really expect people to dutifully relaunch over and over so as to provide easy vultches. They think that people won't just log off or switch countries, and criticize them if they do. It is totally unrealistic to expect anyone to endure that for any length of time.

I think that it was crap that the other country was held that way. And I thought it was crap that people in my squad at the time made such a big deal about the way that people changed sides to end it. I think the spying thing is the real issue and what people do to get out of the bucket is not an issue.

I think that the limit to how often till you can change countries should be equal to the same amount of time it takes to download a 20MB porno movie on a 56K modem.... atleast that way you got somein' to do until you can switch again....

Yup, an informal vote was taken of those who happened to be online at a certain time. I thought it was a dumb way to do anything then, and I still think that way.
Just because more people hold a certain opinion doesn't make it the best for gameplay.
Just because an unrepresentative sample size votes one way doesn't mean that everyone feels that way.
-
The answer is simple. Code it so that if you change countries, then you can't fly for any country for say 4 hours, nor does the country change take effect for 4 hours. In effect you get suspended from that arena for 4 hours.
This would mean:
1. "spying" would not be possible, as all information would be 4 hours out of date.
2. If a gross inbalance of numbers occurs, then those that wish to can change sides to remedy it, but won't be effective for 4 hours, thus giving the larger country time to effect a reset.
3. Those that simply want to chage sides as their mates are on 1 side, but whose squad is on another - can do - provided that they think ahaed.
Thoughts?

I don't, but then again, I haven't been here that long. I do think that 12 hours is 100% better than the 24 hour rule in AW, although I would prefer it be reduced much much more.
Or, and I really like this idea, leave the 12 hour rule, but allow anyone to defect to the country that has the lowest numbers as often as desired.

Good suggestion. Keep the time as is, but make it possible to change to the underdog at any time.

No, but I'm sure I wasn't online at the time. So to hell with the rest of 'em HT, do it for me, change it (back?) to 6 hours. If you do, I promise I'll buy you a drink at the next con and get you Sally's autograph...a lot!

You fly allot of goon in the pork arena chip? It makes a big difference when you set up something to succeed based on some element of confusion and there is none cause someone is in your HQ or on your channel 2 or on your RW. Maybe it would be clarified for you if it happend durring a hostile shores event.
