Title: Text-reader
Post by: Angus on May 02, 2002, 04:58:49 AM
Hello there forum.
I am looking for a piece of software, and was wondering if anybody out there could help me.
What I am looking for is an application that can "read" text out of an image file, s.s. convert a scanned BMP/JPEG image of a text to txt or doc. I have some that came with my scanner, but it is pretty awful.
I read alot about ww2 aviation, and continuously stumble across true gemstones that I would so much like to bost in the AH forums, but alas...I am one lazy typer..
So if there is something like this around, please let me know:)

The type of program you're asking about is OCR-optical character recognition.  I've only used two programs: Presto OCR (http://www.newsoftinc.com/redir/digitaloffice_all.asp?category=ocr4) and TextBridge Pro.  Presto OCR was superior--easy to use and making few mistakes.  You can download a free 30 day demo of Presto OCR 3.0 from the link above.
