Just a opinionated statement.

agreed we should start with the lightning
:)
-
Pony D is at the top of the list, with the 190 not far behind. B17 could use a redo too.
Lightning looks great to me. :)

nah
:p

like this?

I'd rather that they finish the entire planeset before using up SUPERFLY and Natedog's time with cockpit revisions.
-
I want metric instruments for ze german planes.

I agree to an extent banana, but Hop in a 109E, look around, then in a P51D. Supe and Nate have really tweaked the graphics on the newer ones. The PonyD doesn't even look like the same game. It is a popular plane and is probably used the most by newbies because it's one of the best known fighters of WWII.
The Pony-D (IMO) is too important to put off til later.
-
id rather see more planes 1st as well.
-
I agree 100% with hblair.
P-51D really needs an update. Even when compared to the P-51B there is a great difference in the graphic quality.
On average, I spend 90+% of my Aces High time sitting in the P-51D cockpit. It would be great if it looked as nice as some of the newer aircraft.
Wing up, Get kills, Be happy!

The P-51D's cockpit isn't even the worst. The early FW-190's and the F4U are the worst IMO, and the gunner positions on a lot of bombers.
When I show off AH to people they generally like it except for the cockpit graphics. The functionality of the AH cockpits don't impress them as much as their "ugliness" turns them off. IMO the cockpits are one of three things in AH which really need to be re-worked before AH has a chance of becomming seriously popular. The other two things are the interface and the pitiful lack of sounds in the main download. The exterior plane models are generally fine--you never really see them up close in-game anyway. Stuff you actually SEE is a lot more vital.
For someone who's never played AH before and is used completely to boxed games or well-polished online games, AH looks like a beta product.

If custom sounds are added into the download, that tacks on another 30MB.... it's easy enough to find them, there's a forum dedicated to 'em... Maybe a readme or something that indicates you can replace the game sounds with any wav file would help, but keeping downloads small is one of HTC's biggest concerns.
later on down the road, when the planeset is more complete... then sure, dedicate an entire version to redoing all older cockpits.
They just redid the Spit artwork, and they redid the La5 artwork.. I suspect they'll do new P51D, and all the other planes, when they can find the time.
No point in bringing this point to their attention, it's not like it's something out of the blue and not known.
J_A_B, "IMO the cockpits are one of three things in AH which really need to be re-worked before AH has a chance of becomming seriously popular."
I don't think it can become anymore seriously popular than 400+ people in the MA nightly... unless they add an easymode arena.

AH could easily attract more than its current numbers, even without adding an "Easymode" option.
However, AH has two hurdles. A lot of people don't even know it exists, and many of those who do find it are turned off by its general lack of "polish".
I'm not just making stuff up either; personally I don't care what the interface or cockpits look like and I have plenty of custom sounds. I'm just saying the most common complaints I hear when I show AH off to people (most recently my brothers and their friends, whom I just met for the first time).

Well, maybe the interface is bad to them because they've never played on online game like this before?
Personally, this interface is great for me.
I want to change fields, I just double click on a field on the map.
I want to exit my plane, I just type / ".ef"
I want to change my ordinance, go to the hangar and select what ordinance I want on which hard points. Select how much gas I wanna carry, and set my convergence. It's all in one easy to find area.
I want to join a mission, now maybe THIS could be moved to something more accessible..
You must realise something though, this isn't the conventional interface. You don't have menu screens for one sole reason, once you get into the arena you are in the action. By being in the tower and allowing you to move around the field to select different things in terms of a split second.. it is possibly the greatest style ever.
How many games do you play where you go to a hangar screen (which takes time to load) and you have to go to the mission screen, which also takes time to load, and then you have to get into the actual game... which takes even more time to load.
AH has it all in one easy to use push-button setup... and it's all right there.
The fact that they don't like the interface is probably the same reason the majority of user's computers I work on in the Federal Government don't like upgrading.... they fear the change and having to learn something new.
There is _NO_ other game out there that offers a virtual airfield the way AH does.. everything else is a boring 2D menu screen.

fyi everything you do with the interface you can pretty much do with a dot command.
you seenwbs interface? thats supposed to be better?
-
Gotto agree, allso, the new Spitfire cokcpits and the 109 E just looks exelent, wish all planes could have it.
-
The warbirds interface is better than the AH one, as far as new players are concerned. It's more self-explanitory. And even then the WarBirds interface is fairly unimpressive.
Once you learn the system and put the crude look of it behind you, the AH interface is better by far, but a lot of potential players don't stick around to learn it. This translates into lost revenue for HTC.

I disagree that other planes have any worse cockpits than the P-51D. If I remember correctly, the P-51D was the very first plane ever made in Aces High (That's why it's number 1 in the plane type listing)
I do agree that the Aces High "cool factor" is lacking when compared to many boxed games. Better graphics and improved sounds could really help out I think.
So far as having customs sounds available, that's fine for those you have been playing and know about them. I think it would be better for HTC to put the best sound files in an 'optional downloads' folder on the web-site, so people who were just getting into the game could get the good sounds without having to look for them.
IMO, AH sounds are not top notch, even when you have many customs. There just dowesn't seem to be the depth of sound you get with other games. Arcade like or not, louder, more intense sound effects would be more fun.

The AH 109E cockpit looks very good. (Ofcourse, though it don't look as good as original ones...)
Recently when IL-2 added 109F-4 to it's planes, I noticed the cockpit frames(with bolts running along the frame bars) look more simular to our 109E rather than our F-4. Are those um... 'solid-looking' cockpit frames something only the G models had? If so, I think the overall shape of the frames on the F-4 should be changed, too.
-
Pony D /109F-G should have their graphics redone they have the oldest aircraft graphics in the game right now. Of course the 190 cockpits should be updated and the A5 the oldest of them all.

I want metric instruments for ze german planes.
good point i would love to see metric instruments for the german planes.but id rather they finish other planes 1st then redo those planes that are in serious need of a face lift.

The 190 looks like it has bambo sticks holding the canopy!.

Sorry, we're no longer making any more editions or improvements to the game. Everything we do here is a waste of time.

Bah! Got that email saying Superfly had replied to this thread. Clicked on the link real fast hoping to see what Super was updating. And he's messing with us! Tackle him! :D

Hummmmmmm I have to agree about the cockpit thing...but I'd say its not that urgent, isn't it? ;)
What I don't really understand is why the Ta152 has the magnific piece of art it has (that cockpit is IMO the best-looking one in any AH plane), while the Fw190s (wich could use the same cockpit art) still have the old-style cockpit.
It shouldn't be that hard to put the ta cockpit in the Fws...I guess
