Yup, but Arsenal needs only one point to take the league championship, so I wouldn't count on it being much of a game.
I think the Gunners will defend, defend, defend.

Yeah, I doubt Arsenal will play for the win in Old Trafford when a draw earns them the Double. Then again, they have Everton at Highbury to end the season, so they can still lose on Wed and win the EPL. The Wed match is much more important for Man U (still without Beckham) and Ljungberg is on fire for the Gunners, so who knows, it might become a shoot out! Gotta see if this one is on FoxSportsWorld! :D

I want anyone to win the Premiership over Man U, even if it's a poncey southern club like Arse-nal. And the fact they are from London makes it worse.
I think the phrase is 'between the devil and the deep blue sea'.
BTW Nifty - what the heck is the EPL? Nevermind - English Premier League.
You Americans and your sports abbreviations. ;) NFL, NBA etc. We simply call it 'the Premiership' over here.

Seems like you and I can't agree on anything man.
Man U (nice abbreviation btw) is a team mostly supported by sheep...they look at who has won the most and then follow.

Dowding, I'm a dumb American. It taxes me to spell Premiership! Of course I'm gonna use EPL instead. I figure if we can drop "u" from most words, why not contract anything else English? ;)
Or are ya just upset because you got Yanks watching YOUR game? :D

Curval - I hate Man U fans. The great majority have never even been to Manchester, nevermind Old Trafford. Most Man U fans in fact from Surrey or such like.
I'd love to see Man U drop into mid table obscurity, or better still out of the Premiership all together. You soon see the 'fair weather' supporters dissappear. But that isn't going to happen. Unless I bought the club out and insisted they put Danny Wilson in charge.
Now that would be funny.

BTW, how big is women's football in America. I was reading there was only one professional team in Britain, but in America there are plenty.

My mistake...I misread your post...we DO agree on something!! A bunch of "fair-weather supporters" sums it up quite nicely.
As to what you say about Arsenal..well, I'll tip a pint to your team after the Double is completed...which team is that btw? Northern team I assume...Liverpool? (bunch of yobos).

They are going through a rough patch at the moment.
It seems they've forgotten how to play football. :D

The WUSA (yeah yeah, another abbreviation) doesn't attract a lot of attention here. I'll see if I can dig up attendance figures real quick. The past week's games drew between 4000-6600 people for each match. Nothing spectacular, I guess what your Div 3 teams draw? There are 8 teams in the league, mostly American players, with some Chinese, Brazilian and Norwegian players as well. There is at least one English girl, Kelly Smith I think is her name.
Now our Women's National Team does usually draw a decent crowd. There were about 80,000 that saw the 96 Olympic final against China here, and I think 90,000 for the 99 WC final here against, again, China. We've all seen Brandi's sports bra after she hit the winning PK. Aside from the competitions though, it still doesn't draw as well as our Men's team does in friendlies. Of course, when we play Central or South American teams, 50% or more of the spectators are ex-pats (or illegal aliens! :eek: ) of the visiting country.
I love watching soccer, personally. It's my second favorite sport to watch besides American College Football. ;) I find the Premiership to be the most entertaining league to watch, though Serie A and the Dutch Eridivisie are pretty skillful as well.
Fav team? :) Magpies! Tho I was upset when Newcastle went with ntl: to be their sponsor over Newcastle Brown Ale. Heh, the beer is why I decided to support the team over the others ones! Got lucky and the Premiership match a couple of weeks ago on FoxSportsWorld was Newcastle vs Charlton where Shearer got his 200th Premiership goal.
Best match I've gotten to see? Liverpool vs Newcastle in 1997 (mighta been 96.) Liverpool goes up 3-0 in the first 45 at home. Newcastle storms back with 3 goals (I think 2 or 3 of them after the 75 minute mark). Seemed destined for a draw, but Robbie Fowler put in a header 3 minutes into stoppage time to win it 4-3 for Liverpool!
So I know you guys hate Man U, but do you pull for them to win in the Champion's League when they plan non-English sides? :)

Plymouth argyle finished top of Div3 this season with 102 pts (a record amount of points for div3).
Met some of the players at parties and clubs- they seem like a nice bunch of blokes- the ones i met anyway.
I'm also a follower of liverpool- just used to love them as kid. Bt it's not the same as supporting your home town.

Nifty - thanks for the info. Women's footie is pretty amateur over here (in fact 99% amateur), but growing. There's this flim out at the moment called 'Bend it Like Beckham' about women's football, and these two girls ambition is to make it to America to a soccer school. I just wondered how much actual coverage it got.
80,000 to watch a women's game is extraordinary! Even if it was an international.
Do you watch all your football through Murdoch's Fox network thing? How many games do they air?

Did anybody watch the Woman's FA cup final today?? Fulham won 2-1 if u wern't watching and I have to say those lasses played pretty damn well, and could probably give some guys teams a run for their money :P. Oh yeah and Dowding, you can start having a go at our poncy southern teams when Wednesday take their fingers outta their arses :D.

All Premiership matches are now on FoxSportsWorld or through pay-per-view. The FA Cup final for example was PPV only, I think $15, but maybe $20. Espn used to carry games, but now they only carry Champion's League matches. We get a couple of matches a week.

as you see on Saturday we get the FA Cup a week late for free. This week we're getting the Wed match between Man U and Arsenal and one of the Saturday matches (my guess would be Arsenal and Everton.) Some games we get live, some we get on replay. Usually the English games are replays except for the occasional Monday match. If we're lucky we can get up to 4 games in a week. Then we get 1 or 2 German and 1 or 2 Dutch games on a weekend too (but both those leagues are finished now.) They'll also have some Argentine League games as well, usually 1 per week. We also get some tourney games. UEFA final this week, Coppa Italia final and the Nationwide Final between Birmingham and Norwich (edit: had Millwall, but that's who Birmingham beat in the semis). All three of those are live, which is rare for us Yanks!
Fun stuff like rugby and Aussie Rules Football too. :) Actually, FoxSportsWorld is the whole reason I upgraded to digital cable from regular cable. That and I get the Major League Soccer PPV package so I can see all the games instead of the one game on ESPN2. Only $49 for the whole season. :)
