Title: GeForce4 MX 420 (agp) very slow Frames
Post by: 1stnastySQUID on May 06, 2002, 01:00:48 AM
I recently purchased a Geforce4 MX 420 and Im getting
very poor results...........
Frame rate on runway --5 FPS
frame rate normal flight at 10k -- 12-15 FPS
Looking straight up at sky -- 45 FPS

This is comparable to my old PCI 32MG Savage4 card.
and is slightly better than my old ATI rage pro turbo 8 MG.(AGP)

system specs:
AMD 750MHZ Athalon w/two cooling fans
AD-11 motherboard
384 MG ram (SDRAM)
win98se O/S
all new drivers for AGPminiport,motherboard,
Vid card and so on............
19" MAG 800v monitor.
7400 rpm seagate HD  8.4 gig
(not even 1 gig used space)
virtual mem set at 250 min and max

I have cable connect (although I dont think thats
the issue)

note:have tried winME to try to resolve
problem (frames were same)

If anyone can help me out with the settings
please do.................

Im sure that I should get more FPS out of this puppy.

                       Thanks in advance

I'd try throughly removing the drivers for the card and reinstalling them.  I'm guessing there is a problem here.  You *should* get better framerates than that.

Also make sure there isn't an interrupt conflict between the video card and something else.

Get at least the 440MX, some of the 420MX cards use SDR ram and aren't much faster than a GF2MX, also make sure anti aliasing is turned off if you decide to keep it.

I'm very happy with my 440MX.

I would never buy MX anything.

For a few bucks more you get the real thing.

When I first got my GeForce 2 GTS 64mb sometime ago I had a similar problem.  It turned out to be the 4 in 1 VIA drivers not working properly - the 4 x AGP wasn't even working.  Try installing the latest 4 in 1 VIA drivers and then experiment with using some of the latest Detonator Drivers.

Good luck!
