B and C and D and so on were designations for armament in British planes.
B is cannons and machine guns, C is 4 20mm cannons(as in Hurricane IIC)
I know there were C armed Spitfire of all the major versions of the plane, and in signifiant numbers.
So can we please have Spits armed with 4 cannons?
I'd be a very realistic choice.

Man this just HAS to be a troll!!!!

There were Spitfires with 4 cannon, but I think the first time they started showing up in 'significant' numbers was with the Spit 21.
Perhaps Karnak knows more on this, I was under the impression that the 4 cannon birds were more 'one-offs' than production runs.
-
C and E wing Spits had a place to put the 3rd & 4th cannons, but I've never seen a photo of one in the field with this loadout.
The only production Spit that fought in WWII with 4 cannons was the Spitfire 21 as far as I know.

i read that there were almost 2000 Spit Vs C produced. It seemed weird that it wouldn't be here. Maybe my source is wrong.

According to Pierre Clostermann the Spit Vc (4x20mm) was considered a failure. And the series was not qualified to use by the RAF. Most of the planes were sent to Malta...

I agree. It's too hard to get kills in the AH Spitfire - give it better guns

Now, which spit version had the JATO rockets?
Call me a troll........
-
No the spit just fine were IT IS! :D

DmdNexus Your a troll ;) ......
But to answer your question the Seafire 46 had Jato (And made the Spit XIV look like a popsiclecat) :D Oh it had 4 cannons as well :)

The "C" refered to the universal wing that could accomodate either 8 x .303, 4 x 20 mm, or 2 x 20mm and 4 x .303. The 4 x 20 mm was certainly less commonly used but was not that rare. I have a bunch of pics of them. Here's a few:
A Squadron of 4 cannon Spits (No. 2 SAAF)

A boatload of 4 cannon Spits for Malta

A 4 cannon Spit VIII of No 56 Sqdn.

Performance trials for 4 cannon Spit V (http://www.fourthfightergroup.com/eagles/aa873.html)
4 cannon spits most certainly were "qualified to use by the RAF". They didn't give up much in performance either as evidenced by the above report. The 109 suffered far worse from their additional 20 mm in gondolas.

Looks like we need a new loadout option then. Get busy HTC!
-
We all know this'll never happen, although it would give people somehting new to whine about........:D
spit V's and seafires with 4*20mm would be nice seeing as other a/c have their alternative loadouts modelled.

When that one debuts, I certainly want both the BBS and CH1 in the MA to be archived. It will be classic. :)
Anyone know the ammo loadout on the 4x20?
Of course, since it only takes one ping at 1000 yards you could potentially get hundreds of kills right? :D

According to what I have read, the Malta Spitfire Mk Vc' had their 3rd and 4th cannons removed. This was done for two reasons. One, two cannon were found to be more than adequate firepower and the extra two did more to reduce the Spitfire's performance than to increase the Spitfire's leathality. Two, 20m cannon ammo was not in plentiful supply on Malta and two cannon fighters use ammo at, well, half the rate of four cannon fighters.
I don't think this option is a good idea in AH. Our accuracy makes firepower the dominant trait of fighters (just look at the F4U-1C vs the F4U-1D). Adding this option would basically eliminate the common Spitfire armaments of two 20mm cannon and four .303 Brownings or two .50 Brownings. Lets keep flying the Spit with its most representative armaments.
Besides, its already pretty easy to get kills with it.

I have all the same pics as mw. Anothers contained likely in the same book include a 4 cannon armed seafire II.

Just for Karnak, a Malta based Spit Vc with the 4 cannon loadout. ;)

So, umm, some planes can have an optional historic load out and others can't? Huh? What's up with that?

The 4 Hispano Spit Vc was certainly a production plane. Only on planes with the uber trop filter though.
So its around 10 mph slower, 5 for the cannons and blisters and 5 for the volkes filter.
It was used in place of the Hurri 2c.. for ground attack in the Mideast.
