Title: Another PTO Question
Post by: Löwe on May 06, 2002, 04:25:46 PM
Any of you guys know if the A5m Claude was used against the Allies in the early days of the Pacific War? I know the Flying Tigers, encountered the Nate, but i don't ever remember reading of Allied pilots coming up against the Claude. I seem to remmebr that one or two of the smaller IJN carriers like the Zuiho or Ryujio, had A5ms even after Pearl Harbor.

Thanks.

While I don't know the answer to your question, it would make sense that some engaged in combat, either at the start of the war or towards the end as kamikazes.  You might try this site. (http://www.j-aircraft.com/)  They probably have the answer somewhere on it.  If not, you can go to the forums and ask.  I am sure someone will know for certain.

Thanks Guys . I was able to find out on a website, that A5ms did see action hen the USN ran the early carrier raids on the Marshall islands. Also the IJN Shoho and the airbase at Rabual, both had units flying the A5m during the Battle of the Coral Sea.
