Ft.Lewis WA? Damn, we're neighbors! Going to read now...

Interestingly, after the introduction there seems to have been little progression on the armor front
Well said! :D

"Bombing is AH is relatively simple but hitting targets is not always a given. Bombing is more of a saturation thing than pinpoint from any real altitude so don?t expect to take out targets easily unless you are low to the ground, and exposed to AAA fire."
Huh?

I think what he's saying is if you are at historic operating altitudes (20-25k) and try to hit a fuel with a single 250 lb bomb, you do need some skill or practice...try it, you must be dead on to hit it and take it out with a single bomb from that alt.
Well written.

A fairly well thought out and written review I'd say

Great article, but I have a couple of questions...
The mobile AA guns are quite useful in the game, particularly in defense of airfields but I haven’t seen too many tank vs. tank battles.
When do you fly? You must only fly when Mindinao is up... most of the other terrains have some good ground rumbles. Especially the lake map. I definitely agree with the lack of hiding places for armor though.
Individuals have the opportunity to man the guns in the task force with the express purpose of protecting the carrier and attacking enemy forces. It hasn’t been fully fleshed out yet but it should be an interesting add on for later games.
Did I miss something here? What hasn't been fully fleshed out about the task groups?

Nice review, the only points I think that were perhaps skipped past a little too quickly were how good the comms are in relation to the ease of use (ie no exchanging IP addresses just type a number) and what an impact this had had on the arena and also the fact that the CV group is steerable by the players them selves with a nice easy to use interface.
Don't mean that to sound critical just my thoughts on a good review overall.

WKlink: Overall, a good review. I especially appreciate the paragraphs about the CT and events. Well done.

One of the best articles I have read about AH. You appeared to really have taken some time to get to know it. Well done.

I skimmed most of it, 7 pages is long for a review.
You included a pic of a user made terrain texture when discussing AH's terrain.

Alpo I never have seen too many tank vs tank duels in the game. Maybe I am on at the wrong times but I just haven't seen that many. I do tend to fly in the CT more than the main so maybe it was just me missing it.
As for the fleshing out of the task force gun manning it just seems to me that the manning of the main guns and the aa guns are just starting in the game and that probably this will take on more significance as the game advances. Again, just a feeling on my part.
Good point on the comms Revvin, didn't think about the fact that unlike RW or BC you don't have to dial in an IP to communicate. I could have talked more about it but I was probably way over on my article as it was. I am turning into the Cliff Claven of sim article writing as it is.

gettin 25 to 30 FR's in area's with no furballs or a couple of visuals on enme aircrafts:eek:, sometimes even to 35 FR's
get about 20 to 25 FR's in heavy fightin area's.
I stay pretty much outta real heavy furballs, or stay on the fringes.(experience :D)
only thing that really hurts....when vulchin a field with alot of friendlies and hangers fuels ammo's are smokin.

I will agree that tank vs tank is usually a MA thing. The island map when you don't have one country with all of the VHs on the middle island is always one of my favorite spots. Another note is that most tank vs. tank usually ends up with someone zeroed in on the other guys spawn point and banging away.
One thing I would definitely like to see is the VHs with spawn points near the enemy spawn points to facilitate more armor action. Not getting rid of the spawns near the enemy base, just another option.
manning of the main guns and the aa guns are just starting in the game

I equally enjoy grabbing the big guns and laying waste to an enemy town or dueling with a shore battery for the range (learning the Land and Sea Mode on the guns was critical). Again, I feel the usefulness is based on which map is up. Mindinao doesn't have many shoreline bases while ndisle is a task force dream. I REALLY enjoyed the implementation of the destroyer and cruiser groups we had in the CT Tunisia map. There was lots of stuff to shoot up with multiple towns per base and lots of enemy ships to sink. It was really fun watching the Allies trying to get through the ack umbrella when the CV group was along side the DD group (I'm guessing about 16 ships total) :D

Really? I see NIK's fighting each other all the time...oh wait you meant ground based tanks! :D
