Go in the duel arena, field 21 (I hope, else Hblair will correct me). Turn off all your icons, select a dark skined plane and launch at the same time as your opponent.
You will meet above a dark forrest. You will really start to sweat to see your opponent, he can be right there in your 6 at 300y and you not to see him. It adds a whole new dimemtion and fun to the fight.
I was initiated to it by Hblair/Grunhertz and Regurge. Nomde and I flew P47-D30 Vs 109s G6. We quickly understood that the shiny skin of the D30 was inapropriate (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
The G6 was too good for our P47s in turnfight, so we switched to the D25 and Hlair's team to FWA8s and A5s.
really need to congratulate those guys for their skills and also for their faiplay. They kept ripping us appart, all in good fun. We all had a blast.
My best time was when I finally could make out one of those buggers over the forrest. I tuned toward him while he started to grab altitude. I opened up on him just as he turned away ... eeeck, Semi-eleptical wing. The worst part is that, for once, I even put bullets on him (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)
Well, you got the picture, go try it and have a ball. I wasn't expecting the no icon stuff to be so much fun.

Yep, try a dogfight at 28k, even using non-camo planes. The fact that there isnt a neon billboard really puts you on your toes. And most evasive manouvers work, as you can exploit your plane's characteristics to their true potential.
In iconless you wont see a P38 following a 190 into its roll dance or a zeke tying up 5 people in a turn contest, it just wont happen.
I love H2H iconless fights, that's when this game becomes a sim, even with all the pork it has. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Was great fun Frenchy, we'll have to that again. Not knowing where the bad guy is, is half the fun.
<S> Frenchy and Nomde. Great flying, and great sportsmanship.

I used to run H2H hosts every Tuesday nights for a few ex-squaddies of mine.
Stalingrad terrain (my God that's beautiful)
VVS -v- Luftwaffe aircraft
Friendly icons only
Some of the best fights I've ever experienced too place under those settings. Flying a Fw190, being chased by an La5 at close range... a sudden high G snaproll forces him to overshoot ... a snapshot!
Being able to camp on someone's 6 at 500 yds or more and blast away is NOT air combat! (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Yep no icons is really exhillarating. Its just like the war stories you read about. Without icons I can see how those guys could go into a fight outnumbered 3 to 1 and not get shot down in 30 seconds
I remeber 1 fight were I was below 2 planes, watching them going head on. I wasnt sure which one was hblair till I recognized the square wingtips of his 190. Of course hb and I were running 1280x1024 while poor Frenchy had to get by on 800x600. And btw very nice sig Frenchy! If that arado were smoking/burning it would be perfect.

Yep, fighting no-icons is great. (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

Yep, as I have suggested many times already. Let icons dissapear at ranges less than 2-3K. Makes the dogfight far more entertaining.
