Should be pretty easy (as oppossed to whole new plane) to make a solid nosed B26 eh? Gets boring just level bombing sometimes.

Who says that you can only level bomb in the B26? It's an amazing plane, very good in any attack role.
Just try it out.

While the B-26 might not have the solid nose with 20mm cannons of the A-26, it's still a formidible attack plane.

I'm not saying they don't exist, but I have never seen anything about a B26 with 20 MM cannons. I HAVE seen however solid nose B26 (Invader) with 8 50's. These planes where used even as late as Viet Nam for close ground support. There is A LOT to be said for 8 50's!
The B26 we have now has 4 50's at the pilot's disposal, and work REALLY well in HO mode against a usually VERY surprised, then ANGRY La7 or N1K HO Specialist.
I get a good laugh out of some of the pilots I have sent a'runnen wondering what kind of crazed maniac buff pilot was on their 6!
TRY IT OUT! Just don't JERK the stick around...the wings don't like that too much.:)

Jusy wait for A-20. ;)

That is not the same B-26 we have, that's the A-26. Different airframe, different builder. The WW2 A-26 was re-designated "B-26" after all the original B-26's were retired.

We have a static display of a "B-26" ( i think its an A-26) at Lackland AFB. It has six .50's in the nose, and six .50's in the wings. In addition it has a ventral and dorsal turret with two .50's in it. This plane would be a good attack version, however I am not so sure it was a WW2 model. Maybe a post WW2 aircraft.

Turbot,
I know this is off topic. The email addy you gave me to send you my info did not work. I may have copied it wrong. Would you give it to me again please? Thanks.

Ill try some B26s low tonight, but I bet I am going to wish for more firepower of an attack version of the plane :)
Heck at least some rockets in loadout options?
-
Rockets NEVER hit anything anyway! The pilot guns work well in a nice lead turn when the enemy is not expecting you to attack, or just blattant HEAD ON!
And I will keep an eye out for a low B26 attempting to engage fighters...:)

Hi Mates
Actually, I believe the B26 in AH has the gun packs on each side of the cockpit. The B26 was designed for mid level and low level work. With the additional 4 .50's in the gunpacks and the nose and top turret firing forward that amounted to 7 .50's firing forward. Not bad if AH has modeled it that way.
I have been asking for some bomb delay fuses so that we can use the B26 and the A20 for very low level work in AH.
Later in the War, Douglas brought out the A26 designed for midlevel bombing and low level bombing and attack. These had glass nose and solid nose versions. The solid nose had up to 8 .50's.
However, the real ground level hog was the B25H. Gun Packs and solid nose. Had up to 8 .50's firing forward plus a 75MM gun. With gunners, bombs, and rockets, this buggy can rock and roll. Hope we have this one on the drawing boards too.
The A26 became the B26 after WWII. Saw some of these in action in Viet Nam in the early '60's. They had the additional wing guns, plus rocks and bombs. Very effective. B26K.
Bring on the delay fuse bombs and we can get on with the low level bombing. Hey Hitech!!!!

B26 has 5, not 4, forward firing guns. 4 .50 cals in the side gun packs, and 1 fixed .50 cal in the right side of the nose.

I'm waiting for the PV-2 Harpoon

Even though the B-26 was used low level it was best suited at 10-12K. Not all B-26s had a gun mounted in the nose for the bombardier. Even with a gun mounted up front, once the bomb sight was in position the gun was limited on it's movement.
At one time the idea was to use B-26's as escorts for B-17's.
The b-26 could out run the zero on the deck and at higher altitudes had the advantage because of their fire power.
In Australia it had a ratio of kills of 90 zeros, to 6 B-26's.and went 6 months and did not loose one plane or person.
The B-26 was stronger in AH but because of whining jock strap fighter pilots it was neutralized
High speed for the short wing was 323 with cruising of 258 mph and the long wing was 300+ and 223 for cruising
The B-26 can not hold it's own in AH as it should, maybe one day it will.

P-47?
Still, the bombers we have are not many. I would like to see a few more.
A Russian bomber.
Glass nosed Mosquito.
Glass nosed P-38.
Another German bomber, like the heavyweight Do-217 which carries a slightly heavier bombload than the B17.
The B24.

not to hijack this thread but skip bombing would be a wicked cool feature
