Thought we had a few sailing types in here at some point. Someone had asked to see the Navigation software we make...its in use by the US Coast Guard, US Navy (subs, cargo haulers, USS Enterprise, etc etc....huge list), Commercial Fishing Vessels, cruisers and the whole bit. We just released a new version a few weeks ago with our own 3D program that not only shows your vessel's position on a NOAA chart, but the 3D/underwater bathymetrics too.
I've worked here for 3 years. While I'm largely Tech Support and Testing, I'm the resident Network/Computer/Web guru. Its fun stuff, even if all my naviation experience is aviation (my 2 co workers are former Coasties).
How's about you guys? Anyone else work for a software firm that makes cool gizmos too? :D (We already know you do, Superfly!)

Overnight staff at the front desk.
Working with tourists for the most part is a fun job. A few idiots here and there but for the most part people who come to our resort are great. Plus the perks of the job are wonderful too - stay at any VRI resort in the world at a discounted rate :) Friend of mine went to Orlando for a week and only paid $100 for the suite he stayed in :)
I'd post more pics but no camera at the moment :)

Wow Lepaul- that is some NICE software- I assume it's using a GPS hookup to figure out your locations?
What charting data does it use? I tend to boat around the Queen Charlottes once every two years and always end up hating crappy charts (have my own modified ones for where I have been). Does the software allow you to modify any errors you find in it's data?

Hmm, which ones? Since I've been here, we've had Computer Vision (CV) CADD3, CADD5, CATIA V3, CATIA V4, and now V5. You must mean the LPFK board? Those were quite handy for accessing a function rather quickly. CV had two monitors, one where you'd do your design work on and the other smaller monitor for entering data...glad THOSE days are gone!
Straffo, I deal with the French on a weekly basis, and will be going to France probably next year. Might have to look you up if your near Paris !

Yes, plug a GPS capable of outputting NMEA 0183 data into your serial port and we'll show your location on a NOAA chart, and if the 3D option has been purchased, and you have the 3D charts/data, we show the bathymetric info as well.
There is no real way to modify the chart info, as we are merely showing your position on a pre-existing chart. However vector charts (charts created by the computer from data points then rendered) are coming soon. Our military version does this with the DNC stuff.
For charts where you sail, check http://www.softcharts.com or for Canadien charts, check our site (http://www.thecapn.com/charts.htm)
