Title: An interesting Read for O'Club Posters

Considering the National make-up of this BBS, I though that this was a pretty good editorial that many of us would benefit from reading.

Typical low-cultural yankee explaination, blaming Europeans and other intelligent nations for the American traditional ignorance and bad manners, resulting in patologic arrogance, based on their so-called "prosperity" of a soap-bubble "capitalist" economy, basically resting on so called "free market" of trading useless pieces of paper on stock exchanges.

:D :D :D

That was funny Laz... :)

This part at the end makes sense (and it's the article author's opinion, not Hutton).

Quote
The truth is that both Americans and Europeans are guilty of caricaturing each other and that this habit may grow more dangerous as the Cold War fades in memory. It is not just that these old allies have lost a common enemy; it is that each has a psychological need to construct a replacement. The more Europeans define themselves against America, the more Americans feel the temptation to do without Europe and resort to unilateralism. The more Americans succumb to that temptation, the more Europeans denounce the United States as a nation of cowboys.

Its the wonderfull thing about America...

There's enough people from every part of the world so that no one particular nation feels the need to accept responsibility for our behavior... though virtually every nation has contributed to our culture in some way.

Look slike Boroda was too busy casting a troll to get to the end of the article. Don't you have a nuclear test to work on or something?  :)

Creating a theory to explain recent stories/events. Sounds like he's creating an editorial. What a bastard

that's the point of the story really.

I guess you need to have kept up with the recent Post editorials to get the full effect of what he is saying. For my part, I was swept up in a bit of the Antisemitism/Le Pen hype that spewed forth from the Post over the last few weeks. This editorial helped me even my keel a bit. Not only about our own media perceptions of Europe, but about the Euro's media perception of us. This board is my biggest "direct" outlet to those perceptions. It was in the interest of better understanding on both sides of the Atlantic that I posted the Article. Not to make much ado.

Besides, don't you have some Augering to do? ;)

A lot of what europeans say about US is true. The extent is often overblown.

For example it is true that american citizens shoot each other. But there may be different ideas what commonly means.

My apologies Sikboy. I certainly didn't intend to be the hairball in your P-trap.
It just seems like editorial writers often create the controversies instead of commenting on them. This guy took the comments from a single book, or a very small sample and expanded that into a movement.
And yes I have some serious augering to do, and I have fallen behind my quota. :p
