I am going to take a shot in the dark, but I think it is either the Wasp, or, more likely, the Ranger on the way to supporting Operation Torch.  I am not sure though.

I do know the planes are F4F's, if that is what you are asking.

Looks like a Bogue class escort (Jeep) carrier with two F4F-4 Wildcats on deck circa late 1942, early 1943. Perhaps off the coast of North Africa.

My regards,

Widewing

Judging from the markings on the F4Fs, it will be one of the Escort (Jeep) CVs in the Ranger group during Operation Torch.

There were 4 of them and they were:

1. USS Santee
2. USS Suwanee
3. USS Chenango
4. USS Sangamon

The Chenango was loaded with USAAF P40s so it won't be her.

So it's one of the other 3.

Best I can do. Sorry.

Palef.
