Could anyone provide pointers for the proper techniques for unloading a fighter to maximize energy and speed in a dive?
I hit shift-x to set trim and dive angle and relax hand pressure on stick. Is the the proper way to unload or is there a better way?

Unloading refers to getting to a less than 1 G condition. If you just set a dive angle, you are diving with a 1 G load on your plane. To unload, give slight forward stick until your G-meter reads 0. You will find this gives you better accelleration.

Unloading involves putting the aircraft into a ZERO G dive. Thus you need to push forward on the stick a little to get zero g on the g meter.

yeah you can use manual trim "i" and "k" for elevators or push forward on the stick. whatever u find suits u best :)
