This Friday we will be runing a 1945 set up featuring Russia vs Japan, hopefully this will ocure on the kuriels Island map that NUTTZ has been hard at work on it is a beautifull map i ceratainly hope it is available, howeaver HTC and NUTTZ are both busy folks and in the event we can not bring you the Kuriels map a substitue will be used ( possably Perdonia). The planes set is as follows.
Japan:
N1K2-J
Ki-61
Ki-67
A6M5
M8
M16
M3
LVTA4
LVTA2
C 47
TBM
PT
Russia:
La-5/7
Yak 9t/9u
Il-2
B-26
Panzer
Osty
M16
M8
M3
LVTA4
LVTA2
C 47
PT
Their will be no perk planes and no restrictions on standard gameplay. The TBM is to represent the large number of carier aircraft in use by the Japanese at this time from land bases, Juddy, Grace, Jill....

Nikis vs La-7s!
Buwahaha this is gonna be more fun watching than fighting!
-
true. itd be like the MA.. but made out of concentrate!
-
Wow, what a tought call. I always feel icky flying them birds. Now that I wont have a choice, it is gonna be hard deciding who to fly for! Probably gonna have to go russian, but that zero is calling..... Does a zero even have enough ammo to knock out a sturmi?
-
Brady, that sounds like a good one! Hats off to you and the rest of the team.
-
Ya a Zero can kill a Il-2 easy, gota jit it with 20mm though:)
-
Real men will be flying Ki-61's or BFG Yaks in this setup. :)
Sounds interesting!
-
cool back to the yak 9t for me.
-
I'll be in a Yak-9U.
Maybe I'm an idiot but, I expect to hold my own against the N1K2. I've been flying the Yak-9U in the MA and have, of late, been getting a couple kill per sortie. Since I more or less suck, I've been attributing this to the Yak-9U.
The good things about the Yak-9U:
1) It's fast on the deck. Sure you won't run down a P51 or a LA7 but you will hang with them for a surprisingly long time.
2) It snap rolls in a most pleasing way. Not quite as fast as the 190 it seems to me, but faster than everything else.
3) Acceleration. Unload it and WEEEeeeee.....!
4) 1xShVAK 20mm cannon mounted in the nose. 33% fast rof than the Hispano MkII an only 20 m/s velocity. People wax poetic about the Hispano but this is simply the better gun.
5) 2xUBS 12.7 UBS in the cowl. (Can't find any data on the UBS 12.7... help!) These seem to be Browing 50's in all but name. I can and will use these only to down planes if a snap shot is not needed.
6) Visibility, just as good as a P51. Nuff said.
The bad things about the Yak-9U:
1) 150rpg for the 12.7's and 160rpg for the 20mm. In short, you are taking off pretty much out of ammo by the standards of U.S.A. planes. At best you will get 3 kills in a sortie, 2 is far more like it.
2) This is NOT the plane to hunt PT boats or buffs in. Doesn't have the hits or the hitting power.
3) 15k altitude is long way up for this ride. Don't go there.
My prediction is that this setup will be much like the early war PAC in terms of frustration for the Axis side. The N1K2 is fine plane no doubt, but the faster Russian planes are going to be able to pick their fights.
-
"At best you will get 3 kills in a sortie.."
Unless you fold your fire and shoot at a range of 200 *or less* ! ;) I've gotten a best run of 10 kills with a 9U. (When I had some real time to fly online) And my best run was 7 for a -9T; three lancs and four fighters.
I would love to try this setup. Hard part would be deciding which side :)

hfmudd, I see you have been flying the ct, in your description of the 9u I think you are forgetting somethings.
You will never have to run from a 51 or la7.
you will be flying against nik2 (ammo coming out the wazoo but relatively slow and compressable) and the ki61 medium to low ammo load, and the zero, zero ammo load.
Your yak is going to be so fricking uber you wont know what to do with yourself!
It looks like the Vf27 hellcats may be sticking with the IJN so you will definitely have targets!
-
K West,
You are clearly a better shot than I.
ergRTC,
Oh no, I did not overlook the fact that I won't meet the P51 or LA7 in this CT setup. I was just comparing to the MA. I think this CT is going to be a challenge for the IJN. to you and you squaddies for stepping up to it.
-
You know, I just can't get over the fact that what I am saying is: "Dweebs like me will be in Yaks, the "real men" will be flying Nikis."
I need a beer...
-
"K West, You are clearly a better shot than I.
"
Hell no :) Just spent a lot of time in them. Key is to just get close, watch your six so you don't get fixated and shoot sparingly.
-
YAK 9U is one of the "unknown" uber planes, can quite easily outfly most other planes :)
Will be a fun setup!
-
It will be alot of fun, especially for the Ruskkies:).
-
Sounds like a very nicely balanced setup!
BTW BOB has been a blast this week. Would love to see it again soon
-
I'm worried because the Yak9U and La7 will be untouchable. Unless the Emily is a death star. But we'll try it and see.
-
Yeah mkofan, it could be pretty tough. Need the ki84....
Check this out. Might go but it is a long subway ride for just one plane I want to see....

I predict 2 hours before the whines explode about not being able to catch any of the Russian fighters.
-
From the looks of this thread i guess the Niki isn't so "uber" after all, Or the Russian planes are more 'Uber" than the japanese planeset. But once in the MA Yaks are rarely seen and Niki UFO whines are abuntant, must be a rock/paper/scissors thing.
NUTTZ

lol:)
-
La7 or yak la7 or yak yak or la7 , hmmm would some one make up my mind ? ... oh well as long as it kill planes with the sun spots on them im happy :D

You are exactly right, it isnt the uber monster that some make it out to be. It will be hard pressed against either of the russian rides.

Yak 9U is almost as fast as a 109 G10 at the deck, the Yak has no wep and when both planes fly no WEP the YAK is faster. The Yak turns better and is proabrly THE best plane to scissor in, it's only drawback is ammunition and guns although it's only slightly less ammo then in the 109 it's a bit more powerfull. La7 is faster then YAK but turns worse and climbs better, accelereates a bit better and holds E a bit better.
IMO there might be a need for restricting these 2 planes some kind of way, the Niki IS Uber but not fast enough to catch any of those two.
We'll see though :)
-
Thx for great setup. Really had fun tonight. Good furballing and...
it was like a big big H2H ( to all H2H players)
-
Be interesting to check out the kill stats when this is (sic) over.
My bet: Jap(anese) planeset will prevail by a respectable margin.
-
just upped a zero in the new ct. Not bad at all. In the end numbers always rule a fight (most of the time) and I think this will be an even set. If a yak gets slow with a zero it is wasted. If 2 yaks get slow with 1 zero the zero has a good chance. If 2 yaks stay fast, a zero can still avoid. If 3 yaks doing whatever they please end up fighting a zero and a niki, they are up shist creek.
