BTW, inside the book you'll find a scanned page about the 1943 trial tests of the DB603 engined G.56, the only Series 5 fighter that actually took off with the new DB engine. Performance are quite impressive (about 690Kph at 23K and less than 6 minutes to get to 20K at full load weight of about 3,900Kg. Armament was 3x20mm and 2x12,7mm).

The theoretical performance of the Re.2006 were even better. Too bad it couldnt go beyond the project phase. Damned B17 and B24 raids ;) (joking)

Sì, la serie 6 (!) che mai vide la luce avrebbe fatto faville... 56 e 2006 promettevano davvero bene. Ma è proprio qui che la vita reale e la simulazione dicono: stop! Il fascino straordinario di queste macchine a volte (spesso, anzi quasi sempre) ci fa dimenticare che erano armi. E io sono un convinto pacifista...
La vita è piena di paradossi!
Dunque: è morto il 2006, evviva il 2006! ;)
A proposito, se possibile continuiamo la lobbying per un'altro aereo italiano. Ci vorrà un pò di tempo ma alla fine ci daranno se non altro il SM79!!! Certo che come lobby siamo un pò scarsini numaricamente - ma notevoli qualitativamente!!!
