Make them or get them from others who had made them.  Nuttz said he should have a site soon that he was going to make tiles available.

When in the Editor click Make Map set it for 512 X 512.  It will make a .bmp called MAP which you will find in "your terrain name" folder ( name of your terrain ).  You will need to rename this to the name of your terrain and change it to 256 color.

I got 20 or so Xeon chips laying around , I found a MoBoard that will take 4 of these for a server, But it's pricey, My cable will be installed next week, so i'm getting closer , just need a good Motherboard and OS system.

Its not working for some reason... heres what I did:

Change it to 256 Color bmp, and rename it cajunsteammapv2 (the name of the map/folder)

Do I have to move it or something?
The old "standard map" still appears when I host it.

When you said "Host it" do you mean to tell me that you are able to build the terrain ( cajunsteammapv2.res ) and place it in AcesHigh and fly around in it? or did you mean when you open it back up in the editor.

Because here info from before:

1) The names of your terrain can't be more than 8 characters long.

2) I know you can use a "-" in the terrain name like ( Pokie-1.res ) but if memory servers me you can't use "." ( period ) and I bet some of the others like ! @ # $ % etc would give problems.

3) Once the .res file is made you can not rename it.

4) If you want to use a different name for your terrain then you need to rename the folder and all the files that the editor uses to make the .res file. Like the .TYP, .ELV, .OBA....ETC

 Forgot to add:

If you change the name of your folder and files, you'll need to open the curterr.cfg ( C:\Program Files\HTC\aheditor\settings ) with notepad and change the name there too so that its not looking for a terrain that no longers exist.  If not you could get an error and the editor could crash to desktop.

I tried making a cajunsteammapv2 terrain and had lots of off and on problems.  I would strongly recommend renaming it to 8 characters long.

Gonna Post question to HiTech

Ok so I cant go back and add a map to a terrain I already built?...

Here's how I understand it:

I make the terrain then click "Make Map" FIRST then I click Build? But Doesnt Build make the folders and all? and If you dont click build where will it save the map if the folder hasnt been created yet?...

Im kinda confused...

Hit make map and pick a size ( i use the middle option of the 3) then hit build, it will make a map into the folder called MAP (I believe) now you need to open this .BMP file in an art program and change it to 8-bit and rename it the same name as your map EX: I have a map named TARA it must be an 8-bit .bmp called TARA.bmp in the TARA terrain folder.

Ok I'm going to call your terrain Cajun  ;)

Make Map = only makes the .BMP file called MAP.BMP ( use the 512 X 512 ) and puts it into your  Cajun folder with all the other files.  You need to rename this MAP.BMP to Cajun.BMP and change it to 256 colour.

Build = only makes the .RES file, this compiles all the files that are in your Cajun folder.

Just open your editor again, make sure the Cajun.bmp is there and then hit BUILD.  It will make another Cajun.RES file.

P.S
Where's BenDover?

Like Nuttz said you need an art program.

But!!!!!  Do you have a scanner?  If you do, then open the file with that software.  Then you can save it without losing colour.  That's what I do.  I don't have an art program.

If not   send it to me and I'll send it right back :)

You got 15 minutes :D  ( it's 7:45pm Atlantic Time ) Hockey Game coming on at 8:00pm :D

Did you rename the map.bmp to the same name as your terrain?
Once you have done that then hit BUILD to make your .res file.

A few things...

IF you open up a map and any of the terrain tiles are black, you did something wrong either the size isn't 256x 256 pixels OR the image wasn't saved as 8-bit or 256 color.

Also yes you will lack sleep the terrains can take many many hours.

Your close to me I'm in NE Philly where are you?

3) Click Build
4) Exit Editor while saving
5) Get your new isles.res that was just built, from your C:\Program Files\HTC\aheditor\terrains folder
6) Place it in your C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High\terrains
7) Run the game
8) Select your isles terrain from the setup list

Its not you its MSPaint. It did the same for me(all black map). I had to dig out an old paint program that came with a hand scanner I bought long ago. MsPaint must have a limited pallet or something. Not sure if you can get Paint to work or not, I just solved it by using different software.

I just remembered from awhile ago about this program that was mentioned by jihad.
http://www.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39709

It may be updated now but this is the file that I download when he posted it.

http://accesswave.ca/~tscott/OtherStuff/iview333.exe

I just installed it, to test it, and it works.

The only thing I needed to do was when the IrfanView program was opened, under IMAGE I needed to select DECREASE COLOR DEPTH and made sure that 256 was selected.
You only need to do this once unless you want different color settings.  I believe!

Also when I installed IrfanView I didn't have any boxes checked, because I didn't want too, but that is your choice.  You'll know what I mean when you install it.

I just right clicked my clipboard bmp file and selected
Open With
Choose Program
clicked on IrfanView
Then under file, save as .......... etc.
