The Only thing I know isnt really with AH. Its with CH gear. As I understand it, the SpeedKeys interface from CH will not work in Windows XP. This means the older game port sticks cant be programed. Since all the new stuff from CH is going USB it wont be problem for that. Again thats the way I understand it.
Flossy was mentioning using a dual boot system to get everything to work.

I've done it both ways. The upside is better stability, better fps. The downside is the inability to program my CH gear. For now I am staying with 98SE.
-
The good: An improvement in frame rates. Very good stability.
The bad: I haven't been able to alt-tab out and come back without the graphics being all screwed up. People have told me that setting ingame resolution to the same as that of the desk top would solve this, it hasn't.
Make sure you have all programs that have pop-ups (like MSN messenger) disabled, or you'll get little flashes of them in game.
XP has it's own internal firewall, so you'll have to disable it before running things like RW, or AH voice. To do this, right click on "My network places", left click on "Properties". Then right click on "Local Area Connection". Left click on "properties". Select the "Advanced" tab. Make sure the firewall box is not checked, then click on OK. Reply yes when your asked if you're sure you want to disable the firewall. Remember to turn it back on when done with RW or AH.
I just remembered, I use a MS PP joystick (USB), and CH PRO pedals (USB). With 98, I had to recalibrate once a session. With XP, they have stayed calibrated.

Just make a dos bootdisk and put the dosbased speedkeys program on it - it can be found on chproducts ftp server. Unless u often change setups its all u need.
-
It's been good for me once Nvidia released their latest drivers.
Weave, the resolution doesn't help. Run any res you want. I swapped the settings to no mipmapping and disabled paletized textures as someone mentioned in another post and problem solved. Not sure which of the two settings did it, probably turning off mipmapping.

Yes that's right. I have Speedkeys on my Windows 98 drive and boot to that version whenever I want to reprogram my CH setup - not so much now since the demise of AW, though...
Otherwise, AH runs fine using Windows XP :)
-
Just tested to see which setting causes the alt-tab problem. It is paletized textures not mipmapping. Just turn off paletized textures and I think you'll be fine.

The alt-tab problem has been over and over this board before..
The reason is nvidia drivers and refresh rate bug.
If the game runs at different refresh rate than desktop (which it will do with all detonators and w2k or XP) your graphics will be screwed.
It can be fixed easy with a prog called nvreffix and it can be found at fileplanet.
-
I tried the refresh rate adj., didn't work, neither did trying various resolutions. What did work for me and is reproducable every time is the paletized textures.
Do you have Windows XP Mr RiplEy?

Weave, if you read the tecnichal forum you can solve your problem esaily. Alone it is necessary to erase a file, I don't remember which.

For those wondering what the XP problem looks like (and even those of ya that aren't) here's a pic. BTW, I'd seriously consider using this to advantage if it didn't frequently make gunsight a solid color.

I love XP.My performance improved a good bit and it has been more stable. The only downside for me has been the psychadelic alt+tab problem. The refresh rate fix didn't work for me. Disabling plaetized textures fixed the problem.

I like it so far but I also have the alt-tab problem. I flew all of frame 1 with my video screwed.
My FPS went up and it seems more stable.
I've had 2 lockups so far and they have both been in AH. Go figure!

I'm using XP. Works all fine, just as it
did when I was running W2K...
I did have the Alt-Tab thingy before aswell,
looked quite like the pic you sent, but I
had transparency on the ground aswell...
I downloaded the nvrevfix program, and after
setting all resolutions to 85Hz the alt-tab
thingy was gone. (but now I have
to reset all settings to be able to use my
TV output. )

Thanx for all the input. The really simple way around it is to log out of the game, do what I gotta do, and log back in. I usually don't multi-task on the puter while playing so no biggie. :)
