Post by: Pongo on May 20, 2002, 11:51:29 AM
Smart is predicting a failure of my Maxtor 60 gb drive..
1 week old. I have sent an email to the vendor asking for a replacement..
How reliable is this smart stuff in the bios?

I have only seen that msg once (on a 1 week old comp). The HDD was toast  and collapsed the next day (no format could save it - freq r/w errors etc) . U might as well return it, prolly a defective drive...

Maxtor has a tool on their website that will analize the drive and tell you if it's fulty.
