Do you remember when the BBS was fun to check out?
- The threads were fun and the disagreements witty.
- Name-calling was at a minimum
- Every thread was either RAM quitting or about an anti-LW conspiracy.
- People would get excited about new versions and updates, no whining about stuff we hadn't seen yet.
- There were actual intelligent topics being discussed (well, except the RAM quitting threads)
Some of the threads that I remember fondly:
- RAM's "Wrong guy for the community"
- Creamo's "Art application"
- XBAT's "Pudding finger"
- The "Kurt Tank invented the F8F thread"
The list goes on. Most threads now a days are people squeaking about stuff that hasn't even been released. Other threads are perpetuated by people trying to show that they got the bigger sack of nuts than the next guy.
As Yeager has mentioned in almost every thread, this is just a game. Games are supposed to be fun. This BBS is an extention of the game, and it is nowhere near fun anymore. Hell, the Isreal-Palestinian threads are more fun than the ones here in the General Discussion.
Hell, people are being even bigger amazinhunks in the game than ever. Before, you only had to worry about Cit calling you a name if you managed to shoot him down. I get called a squeak because I say that I am learning to use rudder pedals again after taking the last 6-8 months off from using them.
Sometimes I wonder if this whole damn thing is worth the $15 I am paying a month. The game is worth it, some of the people aren't.
Oh well, enough ranting. See you guys in the virtual skies (maybe)

Well.. the BBS hasn't strayed off too far.
The whining has just shifted from whining (mostly) about current features, to proposed features.
Otherwise, it's still the same ol' stuff.
OTOH, the g'damn f'in chat buffer reminds me of CNN.
Would you guys mind not drinking so much and getting into discussions about politics in the game? It's such a waste of good text space and bandwidth!

I blame it all on those ex air warrior types !

Remember "The Wobble" ?
Ahhh. The good ole days ;)

remember how I used to sweety constanty about how weak the B17 was? Oh man those were the good ole days.

Nice try whiner.....but I dont think its good enough to win the coveted WOTW trophy.

I can't recall there ever being a time when ppl didn't whine about what was coming...

I think the BBS is kinda like highschool. You remember most of the good times... some of the bad times and very few of the really bad times. If I ever go to highschool again in another life, I want it to be the one I remember... not the one I actually experienced.

This would be a fantastic boxed sim.

Kind'a/Sort'a
Heck, I remember when the AH Beta crowd was oooing and awwwing over the moveable flight control surfaces. I also remember that a few thank you's directed towards HTC for that improvement.
Now, well heck folks, I really think that some of the members are spoiled rotten. We have it good here! Some in the vocal minority tend to forget the basics. Words like please, thank you and the occasional… "nice work art dweebs!" ;)
We have a lot to be thankful for in AH. (IMO)
(OK... Rip's on vacation and I'm taking up the slack. ;) I'll return the flaming pom-poms upon his return.)

You suck Number-boy

Ozark's right of course. And Maniac's reply was witty.

Good thread, I have found myself often reflecting on how much fun this board used to be.
Yes, RAM was quitting all the time, beefcake was on his constant drive for attention, and we had some good discussions.
Now, too much flaming, too much negative stuff.
I have been thinking of just deleting the bookmark lately.

Mathman,
You are not at all original: this thread is a variation on one posted in the "Leather Rashes and Other Skin Complaints" section of the Deutsches Uber Flugzeug BBS by Kurt Tank in November 1943.

Math,
Stand in front of a full length mirror...now grab yourself and say vacuum. Nothing changed, the bbs has always been a squeakin place and always will. Get into your Hellcat, and let your guns do the talking. Forgetaboutit...this game is the greatest! ;)

It's pretty sad that it's gotten to the point where
#1 Anything someone says about the game other than blowing smoke up HTC's 6 is called a "whine" no matter how legitimate
#2 People so quickly resort to name calling in response to threads that werent even directed to them, and just based on the content of the guys thread.

Great mathman, you just had to put some kind of hint of your hatred towards palestinians

trying to show that they got the bigger sack of nuts
I'm glad this was brought up because since starting here I've developed a...
well..
a problem..
Is it a common occurence here to have one's..ehh...grocerys swell after a kill ???
I didn't notice it at first, being new, kills are few and never paid much attention..
But as time went on, I'd kill two, maybe three and I would experience discomfort in the confines of the cockpit.
I didn't think much of it at first, but then one day flying a Corsair I managed to dispatch four poor low life bastages...
And the discomfort became a REAL discomfort...
Looking down I...
SAW TWO TREMENDOUS BALLS SQUEEZING OUT OF MY FLIGHT SUIT !!!!(http://www.moviefanonline.com/cgi-bin/ultimate/ubb/urp.gif)
I could_not_keep_both_hands on the flight stick.......
..throttle was no longer within reach...
They were two BIG mother's...
How do all of you cope with this ?????????
Thanks in advance..

The BBS was, what it used to be.
And thats all Ihave to say about that!

I remember the good old days, back in Beta, when I supported the suggestion for padlock. Everyones reply was so warm and supportive. It's good to know everything is the same here, and it is frozen in hell. ;)

Ram, sure.
But don't forget the famous "X-Plane to ME why I don't like the FEEL of AH!" by the inimitable DeeZeeCamp.
Just wait... there'll be more. The party isn't over yet.

And speaking of remembering,
Do you still remember December's foggy freeze?
When the ice that clings on to your beard is screaming agony?
And you snatch your rattling last breaths with deep-sea-diver sounds, and the flowers bloom like madness in the spring?
:)
Jeez, I love this place!
