Title: This board and it's posts - a newbies view
Post by: poopster on May 20, 2002, 11:12:43 PM
Besides being a Main animal, I'm a board animal. I like to write, and enjoy putting in my contribution. Whether it be serious or not, I like to write. But being an old fart, child of the sixties gives me a "different" look on things not to mention my lungs.....

Reading of late, seeing statements along the lines of, "Nothin but whines" "blowin smoke posts" "ain't what it used to be" etc. etc.

Think about something for a minute. Boards are always boards..

ie: this is porked, these guys suck, THIS guy sucks etc.

Had our own "Whiner of the Week" at one time ;)

I came from a board that at one time was as vibrant and alive as this board is now.

The board I came from was a reflection of the sim that is connected to it.

...and it still is

The board I came from is nothing but posts from CM's on the latest scenario or the results from the one just run....

It posts on features NOT in the sim, posts of whats in the sim that SUCKS, goodbye posts, with the reason why ( they're all very similar )

Not only is the Sim lacking, the fire and fun of the boards has left too.

Chin up you bastages. THIS board is ALIVE and well.

And if you don't agree ?? Pick you plane..

You WILL die.

And then will talk of how, I had to pee, the living room ceiling collapsed while we were engaged or...

any excuse I can think of..

But believe me, these boards are alive and vibrant..

And so is the Sim.

So in conclusion..

SUCK EGGS :D

You never had it so good.

But tell me, whaaasuppp wit this La7 not being perked ??????

Dweebish ;)

Poop makes a good point, in his own unique way.

I see a lot of passionate folks on the boards these days.  All of them care about AH and the direction it goes.  They voice thier opinions about it and that is good.
The inverse to this would be a bland, tired BBS.

Of course, with passion, there is invariably insanity :).  But that is good too.  I would rather be a part of a passionate community than one that has nothing to be passionate about.

Just for the record: the ceiling falling down on top of you is not a valid excuse for losing a fight... but having to pee is.

Nah lazs, I make it a point to be even handed there.  Board bashers have the expected result.  Which wasn't the way I wanted it to go.

By not talkin smack, giving an honest opinion on what I found, a few on the edge of the fence might just give this place a try.

Bashin just locks them in. Honest evaluation gives them something to think about.

I just want them to think :)

And the typical bash, just clouds that all up.

But now if I drop back in, and talk of what I have found, it's just going to sound like a "Mines better than yours" post.

I'm here now.

But there is quite a few over there that would LOVE it here. Just need to figure a way from the "outside looking in" to get to those people, without it being a bash.

Of course you could always ask them :D

That always goes over well

;)

"You never had it so good.

You had me, man you were preaching to the choir. I was hooked, agreed with you right down the line.

Then you throw in the la7 perked bs.

La7 has 28 min of flight at full fuel. Shortest of any plane in the game. La7 sucks eggs at 14k, has only 2 or 3 20mm cannons. Has only 200 or 150 rds per gun. La7 has never & will never be the #1 killer. Before they perked the F4u-1C it consistantly racked up twice the kills of any other plane. When the La7 does the same you can perk it too.

The paradox is that the more we do, the more people will complain.  That's not because we screw up with everything we do.  It's just a conditioned response to being in a very dynamic environment.  People don't bother to voice out much in a stagnant environment because it's not likely to make any difference.  But when people see a lot of change often and a lot of that change coming as a direct result of feedback, it makes them tend to voice their opinion about each and every little thing.  That's really a good thing, the bad side-effect is when people go about it in an unconstructive manner either directed at us or at other users with different opinions.

There are a lot of people who really believe that the way to win an argument is to raise their volume and drown out any opposition.  Attack their opponents and emerge the winner is their way of thinking.  The truth is, these people probably feel like they've won every argument they've ever had, and really the opposite is true.  You don't win arguments by getting people to tune you out.

"I argue very well. Ask any of my remaining friends. I can win an argument on any topic, against any opponent. People know this, and steer clear of me at parties. Often, as a sign of their great respect, they don't even invite me."

-Dave Barry

The thing I am most interested in shutting down here are the personal attacks.  Not only does it show how weak your position is, it greatly diminishes the utility and enjoyability of this board.  The use of this board is not an entitlement and should not be treated as such.  When people abuse it, it is an an abuse to our business.

Pyro, go back to work please. 1.10 will never be ready within 2 weeks if you keep surfing the BBS.;)

Edited to add a smilie for Lephturn (but honestly, I thought that nobody would take it seriously...)

You need a smilie in there DelSys.

I find that one of the best things about the HTC crew is there involvement in the community.  We want/need to hear from Pyro and the gang from time to time.  Trust me when I say it's not likely as fun or relaxing to "surf" the BBS for the HTC crew as it is for the rest of us.  Basically, I don't want ya discouraging the crew from being involved in the BBS.... even if only in fun. :)
