Title: No Cigars
Post by: Sandman on May 21, 2002, 10:12:24 AM
Let's see... Jeb Bush is the governor of Florida.

He's up for re-election.

The largest anti-Castro group in the country is in Florida.

Dubya goes to Florida and talks tough about a pissant little country with 11 million people and damn fine cigars.

Net result... a spike in Jeb's approval rating and no cigars for you.

Cigars are bad for you.  Second hand smoke kills!  At least that's what the communist TV ads here in CA keep telling me...

Funny thing is... even in Virginia where it seems like everyone smokes and restaurants and bars still have "smoking" sections, most have signs that say "No Cigar and No Pipe Smoking."

How come Bush is happy to deal with China and not Cuba?

"They are bitter and nasty, even the "good ones" "

Sounds like either your friend let them dry up or he didnt go to Cuba at all. Nicuraguan cigars are ok, but don't even get close to the Cubans.

More Cigars!

GTO, you are one of the many that smoke a cigar once on a birth, or a stale give away at some bad poker game.

 Fool.

Have to admit, I've never smoked a Cuban, but I've always been told by afficionados that it's the cigar of choice, so I've always wanted to try.

That said, Partagas are damn good. :)

You said about Cuban cigars "They are bitter and nasty, even the "good ones".

Alright, I guess I might have taken that wrong?

Thanks for your definition of a fool, but humiliating yourself serves no purpose nor will win my sympathy.

Well
I just went over to my buddies and checked the Humidor, we have a Bunch of Cohiba's left, and now that they have had time to age, I will try one tonight.  :D

I had read one of the reasons cuban cigars where not as good as the used to be is that they never had a chance to age, and are rushed right to market.

I also read that many "Cuban" cigars are relabeled, fakes.

Elf, i wouldn't be so adimant about getting excited about old rehashed high school jokes about puffing on peters. Makes me wonder if you somehow missed those jokes told hundreds of times.

Regardless of the gay noodle ref. comeback, still the notion that Cuban Cigars which are know for being smooth and creamy cigars made with quality tobacco would for any reason be "bitter or nasty" is, well, .... I'm repeating myself.

BTW, real Cohiba's have a distinct color to the label the fakes never copy right (text on most cigar labels as well) and should be a dead give away to anyone with any cigar experience or knowledge. Plenty of fools buy em though, paying alot for them so they can say "I smoke Cigars, and not the Cheap Crap either" which in reality is fact . They aren't cheap, the scam that sells them makes sure they cost a bundle, and they aren't crap if you never had a good one to know the diffrence i guess.

Which is the reason to lift the embargo... They won't be cheap, but they'll be cheaper. :D

Creamo,
Now that your not calling me names, and explaining yourself I can catch your meaning.  I was a little harsh in what I said the first time, but hey we all misspeak on occasion.

Can you post a link to the right label and a good pic of the Cigar?

I don't understand the embargo, and anyway it's quite possible your tastes my indeed enjoy a Cuban, but I actually like more robust stuff like fatty said. Other countries make great cigars. The hemigways are outstanding, so are the opusX if not too pricey. I'm not way into it, just had enough to know what's good.

For fakes, can't say i browse any internet site you couldn't find readilty available off a Google.com search. Thing is, not sure how colors would come across the screen. I bought a fake my second cigar purchase and took it to a local shop. They pointed out all the flaws which was a good heads up at the time. I have a high quality book with the pictures i bought years ago when getting interested. You can get them at any shop you buy your nightly stuff at.

I don't think anyone should start smoking, but if you already do i suggest you do what i do with my brother. We buy 7 cigars of various make and price, remove the labels, and replace them with numbers. You get your batch and review and smoke each one with no fancy labels to skew your opinion. Of course the outstanding stuff is real obvious, but you'd be surprised what odd cheap ones you rate and enjoy as excellent. Then you go buy them to save $.

What odd and cheap ones do you recommend, Creamo?

If you like Dominican type cigars, handsdown La Uncia. Try them all, they got lots to suit yer taste.

Biggest surprise was the Berings, which are dirt cheap and fooled us both. You can find them anywhere, and each one although not paticular outstanding are really good for cheap stuff. i liked the torpedo's but it's been awhile.

I'd have to ask my brother what Bering exactly I hooked him up with that he liked best. He bought a box he liked them enough.

Hoyo de Monterey Excalibur No. 1 which isn't odd
but turned out to be a pretty cheap cigar surpisingly good with beer I normally would not have thought. Starts harsh and then gets really, really good.

Fonseca'sc aren't terribly popular but a great cigar if you can find them cheap.

The worst ever is (from memory) LAS CABRILLAS? (has a ship on the label) which i snuck in several of his tests and he hated them every time as he should have, they are awful.

i'd suggest you ask the local shop guy what he has in no-name brand stuff. usually they have them labeled "Honduran" or Dominican" and have no label. Sometimes in the case of say the Dominicans, they are actually 2nd and 3rd Fonseca's that didn't pass inspection or something they sell in bulk. Very cheap, and pretty good. Great if you find a batch of rejected high price ciagrs. You have to just try them. i have found some really good ones.
