I really want to be on the server when 1.10 goes live for the first time, as with all patches, the new stuff gets a real hammering for the first day.
Each person with a box of 4 bombers!!!!!! lol i can just see the skys now, ill be up in a few myself but that is gonna be a great day for my tiffy!! So many bomber formations to tend with :)
-
It will definately make our (DHBG) squad nites fun. As it is we usually launch 20-30 bombers, I can't wait to see a formation of over 100 bombers. Should make the furballers whine a bit.

Especially when the bombers all miss their target because the lead calibrated his norden wrong;)

Not to mention the bombers not being able to see the attacking fighters with the 64 plane limit exceeded.
-
...or the bombers being shot down by planes they couldnt see hehehehe.
I will be upping a group of 4 A-20's and doing some serious buff hunting hehe.
-
Tac,
I doubt the A-20 will be able to lift with a 4 ship formation.
I'll bet that only the level bombers with bombsights will have the option, the Ar234B, B-17G, B-26B, Boston Mk III, Ju88A-4, Ki-67, Lancaster Mk III and TBM-3.
-
Ar234 i dont think so. Fw200 Condor YES:p
-
I don't think AH has a 64 plane limit. Thats WW2OL.
-
If the 64 plane limit has any type of smart bias to it, friendlies will disappear before enemies. In other words, if I'm a buff in a group of 100, I'm not the one who's going to be at a disadvantage as the 10-20 interceptors coming in will be rendered while 50 or so buffs will be reduced to dots on my end. It's the interceptors who will only have 60% of the buff stream rendered that'll have the problem! ;)
-
If I recall correctly also AH has a 64-plane limit..
I might be wrong though. Who could correct me?
-
Viper,
There is no Fw200 in AH, whereas there is an Ar234B.
Second point is that the Fw200 sucked in WWII and would suck worse in AH. Its a fragile airliner that was pressed into service in desperation for a long range patrol aircraft. So fragile that the sometimes snapped on landing even though they'd taken no damage.

>>>Especially when the bombers all miss their target because the lead calibrated his norden wrong
Hmmm, lets see 30 pilots X 4 lancs (each) X 14 1000lb bombs = a total of 1680 1000 lb bombs to carpet bomb a field....
1 question - would you rather be in one of the bombers or on the field in a GV?
With those numbers, you can afford to be off by a bit. My real hope is that the new maps will expand the size of the field and towns adding more stuff to bomb. As for cons, with 120 bombers in formation, folks below better watch out for falling fighter parts.
Regarding the 64 plane limit, hopefully HTC can work that out, if not the MA is going to suck. I remember years ago in WB, teams used to purposely form mass attacks which couldn't be seen by their enemies until they were over the enemy's base. It caused warping and all sorts of graphical problems. If that's the case here or if this caused a real hit on network performance then HTC should just scrap the idea. If they reduce the effectiveness of the single bomber and then limit the number of total bombers, squad nites will be a waste of time.

Zip u forgot to say that the DHBG never misses... :)
-
I can see this new Bomber set will be Great!!!!:D
-
I'll just up a 190A8, go bomber-busting, and hear the lamentation of the women :D
-
Viermott? No problem.

Battles with 50 B 17 against 30-40 Fw 190 A8 R8 and Me 110 G can be UBER FAN.

I'll bet we have the "big" arenas before we get 1.10. I'll bet you could lose 500 buff boxes in one. :)

Does anyone here besides HTC really know how this 64 player limit works? Bomber drones may not effect this as much as you think.
In normal terms you have to receive enough info to say give you the data from 64 individual planes because you neeed to simple as that, you need to know when they shoot, which way they are turning, climbing etc etc. These bomber drones just do the same as one player so the only data that possibly needs to be sent out from the server is that of the lead position bomber...the rest will do the same so perhaps some sort of prediction of movement can be programmed. Sure slower systems will slow down because of the ammount of polygons about but will the drones really effect the 64 player limit when in reality they are not separate players, just flying copies of one player?
Just a thought anyway.
-
I think the drones only follow the leader to a certain extent though. The news release said that if you started pulling some crazy evasives, you could break off from your box and they'd be gone. Plus attackers might want to see the gun fire from the other three planes, since all will be firing at him as he approaches.

AFAIK this "64 plane limit" is not a real limitation. Maybe I missed something, but before our first scenario I believe HT said there was no set # limit like back in the WB days. It's not a hard coded number AFAIK. AH simply gives closer things higher priority I believe, so depending on your net connection, bandwidth, and the rate the server sends data out, there will be a point where some of the farther away planes/dots will be warping or possibly invisible. I remember HT saying there was NOT a hard limit. Has HiTech said otherwise and I missed it? Or is this "64 plane limit" an invention of the community that doesn't understand how AH works? Not trying to pick on anyone here... just trying to stop the creation of a "64 plane limit" myth if there is no such limit.
Oh... and if there is a way to predict or extrapolate to reduce network load, I'm betting HT has already thought of it. :) If you think about it, playing these games against each other with us spread out all over the globe already works AMAZINGLY well. AH's network code has to be the best I've ever seen.
