Title: New 'Puter, no AH :(
Post by: OLtad on May 23, 2002, 10:27:55 PM
I just built a new box, mostly. It is a XP2000 on a Soyo Ultra board. With 512 ddr ram, and my old recycled geforce2 mx200 (if I get the new job that goes) running windows 2k. directx 8.1 and the straight drivers for the chipset from the manufacturer.

The problem is this, when I start AH I get a white screen with the spiral graphic from the login notebook at the top, thats it.

Any help or direction would be much appreciated. I am seriously jonesing to get back in the sky.

I know it's a dumb question, but do you have a sound card?

When I upgraded my PC last year, I couldn't reuse my old ISA SB card because the new MBoard was PCI only.

I tried to run AH without a soundcard: no joy.

A soon as I got a new sound card, everything ran fine.

I've heard that AH doesn't like on board sound  for some reason.

Also I get similar graphical glitches if I alt-Tab in and out of AH. Or if I try and let AH make a connection  via my networked ISDN card. If I establish a connection first (with IE or similar) and don't alt-tab everything is fine.

My system is similar to yours

1800xp
Geforce 3 ti500
Audigy Player
512MB RAM
DX8.1
21.83  Vid drivers
Win  XP

Huh, no I am running onboard sound. The Dragon ultra has really nifty 6 channel digital out. I will try putting my old sounblaster card in and turning off the onboard features.

i think its likely w2k givin u the problem...

I know others have encountered this problem and w2k seems to be a constant...  try searching the board for w2k...

Did you try checking DISABLE PALETIZED TEXTURES in video setup?  Someone also said that this can happen without the Nvidia refresh rate fix in XP.  Is that a problem in Win2K also?

I once had a similar experience when I tried to run too high a resolution on my laptop when I imported config settings from my desktop.
